“Great Views, Private Beach, Wonderful Hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

My husband and I chose Mango Bay Cottages for our recent trip after looking at different properties in Grenada because we wanted somewhere close enough to town but a little more authentic than an AI and we are so glad we did. With only four rooms currently, it is very quiet and secluded. Our room was attractively decorated and the view was stunning. The food is cooked up fresh by their chef Bessai (I'm sorry I am butchering the spelling!) and is delicious. We wanted to try some other food so we didn't eat all of our meals there but it was great to have the option. Make sure to try his fresh mango lime juice, it's to die for!

The one thing we loved the most though is how friendly everyone is. Both my husband and I felt like we were staying with friends and loved getting to know everyone. Of course the staff will only be as involved as you are comfortable with but we really enjoyed their company and were sad to leave.

After spending three days in a rather soulless resort hotel I decamped to this great cliffside hide-away. My cottage is really clean and simply but attractively decorated. The true joy is the wooden balcony, with table and chairs and hammock! The view from the balcony is of the beautiful cliffside plants and trees and the ocean. There is a quick walk down to a secluded black sand beach. The meals are fantastic and all vegetarian and the people working here really friendly...if not rather formal...the young hip chef introduced himself and Mr Smart and the young housekeeper as Miss Paul (so I did feel as if I was living a game of Cluedo!). I have booked a hiking tour of the rainforest tomorrow and today I'm relaxing, reading in the hammock and doing bits of work with the fast and effecient WiFi.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same.

My husband and I just returned from a quick Easter getaway to Mango Bay Cottages on the west side of Grenada. My husband is an SGU student and we were looking for a nice location to get away from the normal scenery of St. George's. We booked the Seashell cottage and two other couples we were vacationing with booked the Turtle and Crab cottage. Both the Turtle and Crab cottages are top floor while Seashell is below. However there is a nice view of tropical foliage and ocean from all locations.

We were greeted by staff as we drove up the drive. Directed to our rooms and given our keys. Very informal "check-in." Later the owner came to greet us and gave each of our group a freshly picked mango from the property- and they were delicious!

The rooms were very clean with lots of nice touches. The beds were king size with full mosquito net coverings- which added to the romantic feel, even if they were necessary. The pillows are small and sad- so bring your own if you can. The air conditioning unit worked well but because of the open slats in walls seemed to run constantly while we were in the room. Like many hotels in Grenada, toiletries are not provided so be sure to pack your own shampoo, soap, etc. I was very impressed with the matching sets of Tommy Bahama beach gear. Two beach chairs (with pillow, backpack straps, cup & phone holders, and cooler attached), beach umbrella, hammock, beach towels, and very large cooler bags were all found in the closet upon arrival. The backpack straps on the chairs made them very easy to carry down the steep sets of steps to the beach. Caution to those who are not good with stairs- there are A LOT of them to get to the beach, and they're not super steady.

We only had one meal at the restaurant, which was quite tasty and reasonably priced ($12US/person). The restaurant is all vegetarian and serves a set menu each evening. Our evening they were serving a tasty pumpkin soup, bean and tomato salad, some sort of fried rice patty, with fresh golden-apple juice. Local produce is always featured and everything seemed VERY fresh. The chef David was happy to share how everything was prepared when we asked and even gave some helpful tips on how to prepare the soup on our own at home.

The highlight of our stay was spotting whales from the comfort of our balconies while enjoying our breakfast around 10am our first morning there. We're not sure what type of whales they were- but really enjoyed following the pod as they seemed to be feeding on the schools of fish not to far off shore. We watched for about 30 minutes before some boats came thru and seemed to scare the pod off. The grounds themselves were abundant in other wildlife (variety of birds, lizards, iguanas, butterflies) and beautiful plants.

This was a very nice get-away for our group. We appreciated how accommodating the owners were with us- offering a special rate for SGU students (be sure to ask) as well as free use of the snorkel gear and kayaks. However, keep in mind this is a tropical location and there will be mosquito's, bees, and ants- all over- so just plan accordingly. Also, be sure you know how much you should pay before it comes time to pay the bill since you will not be presented with an itemized bill and instead will just be asked how much you were supposed to pay per night (minus deposit).

Overall, if the opportunity presented itself I would definitely return to Mango Bay Cottages.

Room Tip: All cottages are close together. You WILL hear other guests- if there are any. There are open sect...

Best kept secret on the island. Absolutely beautiful and peaceful. Staff are amazing, they made us feel very much welcomed and helped us out anyway they could. Food was great and local. There are only four rooms so its like you have your own private getaway, the beach is never crowed and we spent many hours alone enjoying the sand and sun. We will be back and are recommending this place to everyone.

Room Tip: We stayed in the clam shells and crab rooms both amazing. Crab is upstairs and clam shells was downs...

My husband and I spent one week at Mango Bay and completely loved it. The property is beautiful - it is perfectly maintained in a gorgeous setting. Peggy, Syisha, and their staff are helpful, personable, fun, and interesting. The beach is the best place to swim on the island I think. We hope to return and would recommend Mango Bay to anyone who asks.

My wife and I had a great honeymoon at the Mango Bay Cottages.

The location is gorgeous, with fruit tree surrounding the property (lots of mangos, as you would expect!). The beach is pretty easy to access as long as you are reasonably mobile as there is a steep staircase to negotiate.

Be aware that the cottages are situated around a 20 minute drive away from central St. Georges town, so either plan to use your own transport or use the very regular bus service.

The team at Mango Bay were really great and couldn't have been more helpful and friendly.

We would love to come back one day!

Chris

The Cottages are clean, cozy and in a beautiful location. Kai and Anja have a very nice place with a lot of potential. The web site advertises a Restaraunt but when we were there I couldn't seem to get a straight answer on whether or not we would be able to eat at the restaraunt. I was told we had to give 2 days notice so they could get supplies. Tried to make a reservation for dinner and was told that he didn't know if they could get fish and would not make a reservation for us. I suggest you don't count on the restaraunt for food, make other plans.
The owners would do well to polish up their hospitality skills because they truly have a beautiful place and we have no complaints about the accomodations. Kai would do well to tone down his defensive attitude with his guests because as paying customers it doesn't make you want to return no matter how nice the accomodations and location is.
