Petit Bacaye is a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of St George's. The accommodation is really nice and well equipped but don't expect air con. Also because the windows are wooden louvered slats, you can certainly hear the wildlife at night (which I liked!). We stayed in Frangipani house.
We were here when the place was empty apart from the owner and family. I'd say there are definitely some good and bad points to consider:
Good:
- Lovely accommodation
- Fantastic food (need to order in advance for dinner)
- Isolated location
- Nice views out to sea (especially from raised viewing platform/seating area)
- Fantastic massages!
Bad:
- Lots of mosquitoes (which come from the crab holes in the sand)
- Beach virtually non existent
- Bar not open at night (due to problems with locals drinking)
- Building work going on on the hill to the east
One thing you must find out before you go is what is happening with the building work on the hill. There is a big development going on and we were woken one afternoon by a loud digger. Although it's quite a way off, the sound carries terribly and we were not amused. To be fair, the owners did make a phone call and it stopped immediately but I was wondering how long they could do this for.
The only other thing I found a bit cheeky was charging very high prices for drinks left in your fridge. A bottle of wine was very expensive compared to the cost in the supermarket, so best to stock up instead of using what's already there. However, the free welcome rum punch was so welcomed after the flight I can't tell you!
You will definitely need a car to get into St. George's, which is about a 15 minute drive away, as is the nearest big supermarket. My overall feeling was that this place could be better if a few things were sorted out first. Still a lovely place to stay though.
