Silks is vastly overpriced and there is nothing luxurious or boutique about it. That said, the room my wife and I stayed in was decorated nicely. However, it was small and lacking in the facilities that are offered at even the most basic hotels on the island, not even a chair.
The welcome to the hotel was non-existent. The receptionist was more concerned about our car being moved to the car park having unloaded our luggage than anything else. There was no offer of assistance with baggage. There was no introduction to the hotel, no explanation of facilities (of which there are extremely few), meal times or anything.
While staying at the hotel we needed to report an incident and while the supervisor on duty was polite, the general manger of the hotel was totally unprofessional, rude and degrading. She has also not replied to any follow up e-mails that have been sent.
The menu in the restaurant is limited and on the one night that we dined there, the fish was raw in the middle twice (ie having sent it back once, it came back in the same condition). We did eventually get the meal free but it was an unenjoyable hassle.
Another thing that you may wish to take into account, depending on how much of an issue it is for you is that in the Tower room (I don't know about others) there is no way of stopping bugs or mosquitos entering the room as some of the wall is open to the elements with no window or mesh.
We are regular visitors to Dominica, staying in a mixture of hotels and the family home. This is by far the worst experience we have had on the island. In no way can Silks claim that the price they charge is justifiable. Do not believe the description the hotel gives of itself. You will be disappointed.
