“and it was free......”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

We had been told about the Foursquare Distillery by some other travellers and decided to give it a go.
The grounds are lovely as it is an heritage park as well with lots of old equipment. it is clean and very well kept, but if you are expecting a guided tour of the factory then this is not for you, as it is a self guided tour. There are displays around the tour which are informative. Being a self guided tour means you are not rushed and you can take your time absorbing the atmosphere and the smell of rum which pervades the air.
At the end of the tour you can try samples and if you wish purchase your supplies at the shop.
It was great and we enjoyed it much more than we would have enjoyed the Mount gay tour and most importantly it was free.

I would add that they are not open all the time as one couple we met could not go round due to a staff meeting.

“Interesting alternative attraction!!”

This is an interesting tour of a smaller rum factory and good place to buy drinks to take home. Also located in a lovely are of the island so incorporate into one of your island tours!!!

“So much unrealized potential”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

I have to completely agree with the previous review. This property has very nice grounds and some really cool buildings BUT the tour is self guided. I would have really enjoyed have a knowledgable guide to answer some questions. We were with a cruise group so we on a timetable and had to rush through the factory part of the tour. Lot's of stuff to look at but just not enough time. The rum tasting was great! The bartenders did take the time to explain the differences between not only their own brands but some of the nuances of the various island competitors. They were happy to allow you to sample all the various rums they have available. This tour would be perfect if they added a little more structure on the front end and took advantage of the fantastic grounds.

“Such Potential and great rum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2012

Let me start by saying that my husband and I first tried Foursquare 10 years ago and cannot get it in our part of the US. We have been craving it ever since.

The Mt. Gay tour is very 'corporate' and you don't get to see the full rum making process (you used to be able to but they have since moved a large portion of the operation to St. Lucy). At Foursquare, you walk through the entire operation guided by painted feet on the ground, and signs explaining what you see. No guides, no rush, and no real crowds that we could see.

There is also a wonderfully done culture museum, and a children's playground that is a bit old, but has tremendous potential. I could see easily spending a day there with my child if the playground were cleaned up just a little.

The bartender was incredibly knowledgeable, and we did have to purchase tastings which are included at Mt Gay and St Nicholas Abbey (which uses Foursquare Rum), but they were not expensive since the tour was free (from what we could tell). The building that houses the bar/retail store is wonderful architecturally and could easily house a very nice restaurant should they wish to expand further.

“nice way to spend 30 mins but no more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2011

We went on spec to see this distillery and whilst we were very glad we went to have a look on the downside the place is run down - don't let your kids see the playground area - all rusted metal and the rum was more expensive than buying in the supermarket HOWEVER on the other had we paid to taste a lot of the rums and were able to decide which bottle to plump for which was great and the guy behind the bar gave us great knowledge and expertise
