Wow! If there ever was a dream vacation--THE CRANE IS IT--UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME. The Crane and it's entire staff made our 17th Anniversary the most MEMORABLE trip EVER. Everything and Everyone were ABSOLUTELY PERFECT--The Suite--the Food--The OceanView---The Sunrise--The Crane Beach--the Staff. ALL SPECTACULAR! This was our first trip to Barbados, but definitely not our last to the Crane Resort. The Crane has everything you could want in one location. It is very private and away from the tourist hustle and bustle, yet close enough to enjoy the Island by local buses and taxis if desired. The Crane Resort is an adventure in itself. It is unbelievable that a Resort that is the perfect Romantic Getaway for couples could also be an ideal vacation spot for families. We Plan to celebrate our Anniversary at the CRANE again next year--maybe even EVERY YEAR. No need to upload pictures, just check out the gallery on their website. It is even more BEAUTIFUL and BREATHTAKING in person.

My husband and I stayed at The Crane Resort for our Honeymoon, in May 2005. It was paradise! The Resort looked just like the pictures!
The Crane was under construction but we didn't mind it a bit, especially with the 35% discount we received from TradeWinds. We ended up booking through Marlin Travel because we hadn't heard of TradeWinds and Marlin gave us the same price TradeWinds quoted!
The construction started at about 9:00 a.m. and ended around 4:00 p.m. We weren't in our room during those hours so it didn't bother us. You couldn't tell the construction was going on when you were at the pool or restaurant.
Our only regret is that with all of the expansions The Crane is planning, we don't think it will be able to keep it's quaint ambiance. It's a beautiful hotel and the staff was great. It certainly was a honeymoom to remember for the rest of our lives! Thanks The Crane!

Just returned from Barbados and the Crane has given us withdrawal symptoms for the heat as we are now back in the UK to central heating and rain! We did not find the air-conditioning a problem as we loved the heat and ambiance of the Crane. We arrived at the start of our holiday for three nights and chose the Crane after much deliberation on the internet. What a wonderful choice, we cannot rate it highly enough - we were upgraded to a three bathroomed, two bedroomed with plunge pool apartment but on entering there seemed to be workmen sat around so we were temporarily put in another apartment overnight which was equally as wonderful. On leaving we confidently checked in to Divi Southwinds being timeshare owners and we expected the usual standard. Admittedly it is near the Gap but our holiday mood deteriorated due to most of tripadvisors comments about it which we wholeheartedly agree with. Divi is definitely a no go!! Do not think about it!! We checked out after two nights and guess where we went back! This time in a one bedroom apartment overlooking the pool and beach. It was fabulous like coming home, we ate in the Zen restaurant or Azure each night and and left with a wonderful feeling . We also saw another apartment other guests were in because they loved it so much so altogether we sampled four apartments during our stay. Absolute paradise. Special thanks to Pauline, Greg and Alfred and not forgetting the lovely hostess in the Zen restaurant. We'll be back someday soon we hope.

I can't believe the bad reviews I am reading for this hotel. We left St Lucia as we were unhappy at the hotel and flew to Barbados hoping for papradise. We certainly got it at The Crane.

We usually only go The Maldives but as our daughter has just turned one so we chose somehere more practical.

The beach is comparable to the Maldives, which is very hard to beat, There were always plenty of sunloungers and plently of space.

We had a one bed ground floor suite with 28ft pool. The room was out of this world. No aircon, but even our daughter slept through, not a problem. I think the Americans are used to aircon but us Brits aren't.

Staff lovely, Pool quiet and relaxing, food outstanding.

Building work non obtrusive

If you want aqua aerobics in the pool then this hotel is not for you. It is quiet, relaxing and on one of the top ten beaches in the world. We would go back tomorrow.

As the brochure says........If you want jet skis head west.!!!

While looking for information on Barbados, we found this TripAdvisor site and were quite delighted to find reviews of the hotel we had chosen to stay at, The Crane. We noticed that the reviews were really all over the map as far as either really good, or really bad, but decided we would form our own opinion when we got there.

Overall, we are rating the visit as terrible due to the fact that there was NO air conditioning (despite the advertisement on their website and the expedia and hotels sites), and the hotels reaction toward our complaint of no air conditioning. The hot water was also very sporadic.

We complained about the air on four occassions during our one week stay. Each time the front desk staff told us that they would send someone to look at it. What we found out is that this is a method of appeasment. The air conditioning in this hotel, we found out, is one central unit that is located in building two (2). This central unit is to supply three, 5 story buildings with air, all of which are not completely enclosed. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this problem out. With 90 degree plus weather during the day and no relief at night, I broke out in a heat rash that was not only painful and uncomfortable, but embarrassing. We asked several times to speak with the general manager, Mr. Brown, but he successfully avoided us on every occassion. Upon checkout, we were told to contact hotels to get the refund we were requesting - which was only two days, as we did not get any sleep those nights due to heat. We sought reimbursement upon return, and hotels contacted The Crane. After one month, The Crane and Mr. Brown had still not responded. They have since contacted them again, but to no avail.

This was our experience.

I have travelled extensively in the Caribbean and would like to add that there were things about our visit that were good as well...

-Beautiful view and location - Best yet
-Great secluded beach - Best yet
-Friendly staff and wonderful day trip advisors
-Excellent food at both of the on-site restaurants
-Bajan people are among the friendliest I have met. There was no place we didn't feel welcome or unsafe - Best yet
-We took DVDs for rainy days and relaxing nights.
-Other guests were quite fun and friendly.

-Secluded location makes it expensive to travel elsewhere on the island if you don't rent a car
-On-site restaurants are very expensive
-Taxi drivers can be frightening on the terrible roads
-Everything on the island is expensive. We saved a lot of money by getting a room with a kitchenette and made all of our lunches and a couple dinners. The supermarkets there have many of the items we eat in the states.

My husband and I decided to take a last minute holiday to Barbados, and chose to stay at The Crane. What a mistake! Being flight crew for a major British airline, we have both stayed all over the world in a variety of hotels. I can honestly say that The Crane is the worst 4 star accommodation we have ever had the misfortune to stay in. The building work IS obtrusive, no matter what any of the reviewers say. The staff ARE miserable, service IS slow. Yes, the rooms are spectacular, but we only had 2 days with hot water during our 7 day stay. I can honestly say that The Crane was a huge disappointment to us, and we would never recommend it to anyone who has the experience of staying in well run hotels.

Our family, including my husband, 16 year old son, my daughter, son in-law and 3 year old granson, stayed in a 2 bedroom, groundfloor unit with large pool in building 4.
It was beautiful, and looked exactly like the pictures.
The beach is beautiful, and the waves were not as strong as the ones on the East coast (US) beaches we are used to. The sand is perfect, the seabreeze keeps you from getting too hot, and the water was warm, clear and beautiful. When we went over to Mullins Bay, on the west coast, we found much less beach, it was much hotter, and the chairs were just as close together.
We ate in the main resturant once for dinner, the Sunday brunch and several times for lunch. The service is slow, to very slow. The food was good, although the food at the St. Lawrence Gap resturants we tried was better. The entertainment for Sunday brunch and the one dinner was very good.
The kitchen in our unit was great, and the grocery store at 6 Cross Roads was much better than I expected. It is similar to a Food Lion, and had great airconditioning.
The air conditioning in our unit did not work, but with the shutters and interior doors open, we got a pretty good breeze, all the time. I didn't consider that a big problem, although they should not advertize central air if they don't have it. I also did not find the noise from construction to be a problem. It did start around 8 am Monday - Friday, but with the sun coming through and the beach calling, I couldn't stay in bed long anyway.
My main complaint was that management was quite unresponsive to fixing problems. We only had hot water for two days out of seven, and almost never had enough bath cloths in the bathrooms. The housekeeper told us they didn't have enough for every room, and the laundry was not large enough to clean them all in a day. We had to request the housekeepers not take the cloths if they could not replace them with clean ones.
All in all, it is a beautiful place with huge potential. We are timeshare owners of the unit we were in. I only hope management will address the problems, rather than covering them up or ignoring them. They need an onsite manager who will FIX THINGS, address problems, and take recommendations.
