“The most amazing place! No reason to leave the resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at the Crane and it was the most amazing resort I have ever visited. I have been to numerous Caribbean island resorts and this one surpasses every expectation. We plan on returning again and loved it so much that we are considering a time share here! The rooms are gorgeous and from he second you arrive the staff goes above and beyond to accommodate your every need.

The restaurants at this resort are the best! The seafood is amazing and the vegetables are locally grown, so you can tell you are eating fresh, delicious food every single meal.

Everything you need from activities to shopping to dining are at this resort so there is really no reason to leave. Oh yes, allow me to mention that the crane beach is one if the best in the world!!!!!

We really enjoyed our vacation at the Crane in February and are glad we went, but wouldn't rush back. It was our second time in Barbados, first time at The Crane. It is about a 45 min drive from the fabulous restaurants and activities of the west coast, which is a sort of big deal since the restaurant options on site leave much to be desired. It just depends what you are looking for. There are really no dining options for breakfast other than your room or L'Azure. The breakfasts were just average and either buffet or a la carte depending on the occupancy of the resort. Menu was the same daily and frankly, boring.

Lunch options were good. L'Azure did a nice job at lunch time however,on Valentines Day, despite the fact that we were guests at the hotel, it was pouring rain and the only other restaurant open for lunch was mostly open air and overflowing with patrons in the covered areas, we were refused a table at L'Azure as we did not have a reservation for lunch! As a guest at the hotel, I would think that they should be a little more accommodating. Especially since most of the tables were empty. Their reservation book was in clear view and they could have accommodated us, it was just the two of us. If we had been informed that we must make reservations for lunch that day due to it being Valentine's Day, we would have had no problem doing so. The Carriage house had the best food and best service but was only open for lunch. D'Onofrios only open on certain days for lunch, but very good. The beach bar served nice salads and sandwiches. Our favorite was to walk down the street to Cutters, although they do have delivery service to Crane beach!

For dinners, Zen was just ok. D'Onofrios was our late night pizza go to - especially after having a very poor experience at L'Azure. Most nights we took a cab to dinner and were able to find some excellent options within the 20 minute range. Champers and Brown Sugar were excellent and we would have gone back to one of them had we not wasted a night on L'Azure. Most of the guests we spoke to that week felt the same regarding L'Azure.

We were in building 9 in an oceanview 1BR suite with plunge pool. While we liked our location, the room was tired and in need of some refurbishing. The plunge pool was too cold to use and overlooked a shed with hoses and spare parts, etc in full view. Really that could be addressed with minimal expense! As for the past reviews where people had complained of mold and dirty windows, yes it's there, but the window situation is understandable with the salt air and constant breeze. For the most part it was as clean as could be expected, it did look as though they tried to address the mold situation in the ceilings. Did we see roaches? Yes. One in the room and many out by the main pool. They really should have cleaned them up they were all along the path. It is the tropics, they do thrive there, but really...clean them up. The showers had excellent pressure and temperature. Air conditioner wasn't working when we arrived. A quick call and someone was right there to fix it. The constant breeze was lovely and we found ourselves using the air only to get ready to go out and to sleep at night.

The pools were disgusting and in need of some algaecide. First time we have gone away and had no desire to step foot in the pool. The beach however, makes up for most everything. We did a few excursions - Cool Runnings was a lot of fun. The concierge staff was efficient in handling everything from excursions to dinner reservations to taxis.

The spa was excellent and we had a wonderful couples massage. The fitness center had the basics and was clean and in good repair. Shame it doesn't have a view.

Overall, the resort was nice and the staff, other than at dinner in L'Azure, friendy and helpful. I was glad we had a discounted rate and breakfast included, as if we had paid full price for accommodations and breakfast, I would have been a little disturbed at some of the experiences. I wouldn't discourage anyone from staying here, but I think there are other places I'd recommend first.

Dear longing4sun,

We appreciate you taking the time to post this comprehensive review of your Crane experience. While we are pleased you had an enjoyable time with us overall, we have taken note of the highlighted areas in which you suggested improvements.

The Crane’s location on the South East coast of the island is perfect for those who simply wish to relax while on their Barbados vacation. To this end, we have introduced all of the imaginable amenities and services into one location, eliminating the need for guests to leave the resort, save to explore the island.

Were disappointed that this stay fell short of your expectations and hope you will allow us another opportunity to create the true Crane experience for you.

Warm wishes,
Michael Phillips

We stayed in a two bedroom garden villa with another couple. Booked one excursion with the concierge on the boat cool runnings. Great breakfast spot right down the road at Cutters (they also deliver). Great rum punch at the beach, also, locals sell fresh coconut drinks for 5 us. The accomidations, staff, and grounds where amazing. Already planning a return trip.

My wife and I returned to stay at the Crane Resort in January 2013 and in February I was delighted to meet again a Canadian guest and his wife. Although no-one could have predicted it last year, he had made a full recovery, from a cardiac arrest and heart attack which occurred on a my previous visit to the Crane in 2012. It was very gratifying. On that occasion I was called, as a retired British hospital consultant, to attend this guest's room urgently. He had collapsed unconscious blue not breathing and pulse-less. His wife was very distressed, and it was quite a nerve wracking experience for us all, because the rush hour delayed the ambulance from Bridgetown by well up to forty five minutes. Fortunately my role was mainly to reassure the family and support to the Crane staff. Amanda and Shane did all the right things, were well equipped and trained, but occasionally I was able to give them little pointers based on experience. He was still very ill when he eventually went away in the ambulance.

This year an ambulance is based at the airport fairly nearby, and when my wife needed medical attention at the new state of the art Coverly medical centre about 5 Kilometres away, she was promptly and well attended by a doctor, nurses, physiotherapist, pharmacist and had an X-Ray on site. These improvements are very reassuring to older travellers.

Apart from these events we had a wonderful visit to the Crane this year, marvellous location, friendly helpful staff, great food. There are four restaurants but the rooms are also self catering. They often have brilliant ocean views and the Garden suites are also very well appointed. Views are obviously better higher in the buildings. Some rooms have individual pools but the Resort has six pools, 2 or 3 three suitable for children but the main pool is deep and appropriate for serious swimming. I was able to take aerial pictures of the Crane from the pillion of a Microlight and also from the Ocean while swimming from Crane Beach to the neighbouring and equally beautiful Foul Bay with other guests. There is plenty to do here, but don't come if you require on-site jet skis, disco or karaoke, you have go a few miles away for those, though there is gentle music in the bar.

Room Tip: Wide range to choose from. select carefully according to your requirements and budget

Dear Jimmysboy,

Thank you for taking the time to post this great review. We share in the gratification you felt at seeing the full recovery of the Canadian gentleman. Amanda and Shane certainly played key roles in his resuscitation and were thrilled by your commendation.

We do hope your wife is doing well and appreciate you sharing the recent developments in the availability of nearby medical facilities, as this will go a long way to reassure some of our more senior guests.

Overall, its sounds like you had another wonderful stay with us at The Crane. We would love if you could share the beautiful images you captured with the rest of the Crane community on Facebook.

It was our pleasure to welcome you back and look forward to seeing you again soon!

The Crane is not by any means a cookie cutter type of property. Since I am travel agent/meeting planner specializing in Barbados I have toured the Crane on 2 previous occasions. What set this visit apart from the other site inspections was that I actually had the opportunity to stay here. The setting alone on a bluff overlooking one of the world's most scenic beaches in addition to the lush gardens and village are worth a visit even if just for a meal. Now to the best part the accommodations. We had an enormous One-Bedroom unit with private plunge pool and gigantic jacuzzi tub. The mahogany furnished bedrooms and living area combined old world with contemporary and it really works. The full kitchen was definitely a treat especially if you bought your own groceries. Dining can be expensive at the Crane. Another reason this visit was special was the staff. Previously most were at best luke warm, this time there was an air of graciousness
and appreciation. This should be on everyone's "to do" list in Barbados.

Room Tip: The Residence by the Sea are closer to the village and beach.

We were looking for a place to have lunch before our plane departed from Grantley Adams Airport in Barbados. Someone suggested the Crane, which is just minutes away. Wow! What a contrast to sitting inside the airport for lunch! Highly recommended although not for the faint of heart price wise or if you have vertigo (which I have a mild case!)

We chose to sit out on the deck which faces the Atlantic Ocean - killer view of the waves crashing hundreds of feet below and all the folks sunning themselves and swimming on the beach! I had a good cobb salad and Richard had a club sandwich and the bill came to $40 US!!! Soooo, was it worth it - yes - mainly for the view and the last fleeting glimpse of the azur blue that I will dream of for months to come. After lunch, we walked around to a lookout and scanned back to where we had just been sitting - no wonder my vertigo was kicking in - that deck we were just sitting on was literally hanging out in space, hundreds of feet above the ground! Wow!

Can't attest to the hotel itself - as we were here too briefly. It looks quite amazing - with breathtaking views!

Very sad to leave Barbados - but we will return!

After stalking Trip Advisor reviews obsessively, I was a little worried about what our 9 day trip at the Crane would bring. I am SO happy to say that we really thought it was amazing -- the best place for us on Barbados! I'll preface my review by saying that we stay at 4 and 5 star hotels and travel often (and we are definitely foodies). That said, the Crane really exceeded all of our expectations.

The beach is AMAZING -- the best on the island in my opinion. Beaches on the west side of the island are much smaller from what we saw. Crane beach offers chairs, umbrellas, towels, etc... and drinks! There are waves, but they were fun for us. The water is warm and crystal clear, and the sand is the nicest i've ever seen (i've been to antigua, st john, st thomas, anguilla, puerto rico... the list goes on... and not on cruises.).

We had a garden view junior suite, and we really impressed. We had planned on upgrading once we got there, but didn't feel a need to. It was spacious, clean, updated, and we enjoyed the view!

The pools are also fantastic...and were virtually empty for the week we were there. i'm guessing most people were at the beach? either way, the peace and quiet was great.

The staff at the resort are top notch -- friendly, attentive, and just good service. house keeping kept our room perfect each morning, guest services (Kesha in particular!) handled our MANY requests for restaurants, taxis, etc., and the others were fantastic as well.

Regarding the food, we had breakfast included in our rate, so we had breakfast each morning at Azure. It was good, not amazing -- but definitely fine for us. We ate lunch at Cutters (offsite) or Carriage House each day, and those were good for lunch. For dinners, we went off the resort, as we weren't impressed with the dinners there. That's okay for us --- we'd rather try new things anyway. But, for full disclosure... we really didn't care for Zen. D'onfrio's was decent though... :)

The resort is isolated, peaceful and quiet. If you want to explore, you'll need to rent a car or be prepared to pay a lot for taxis. We did cabs, which were great... but very pricey. But it was worth us to stay somewhere peaceful and beautiful, and not be sandwiched in between other huge resorts (ie, the Gap...). It's all about your preference :)

All in all, fantastic resort! We hope to be back next year! Thanks so much to all the staff!

Room Tip: We had a garden view suite and thought it was great. Spacious and lovely view (though not water!)

Dear Jillian M,

Thank you for such a wonderful review. You really haven’t left much for us to add! We are delighted that you didn’t allow yourself to be swayed by any negative reviews as it sounds as though you enjoyed almost everything The Crane has to offer.

Keisha and the entire team at Guest Services were delighted by your special mention. It was their pleasure to ensure that your Crane experience was everything you imagined it would be.

We were surprised that you did not enjoy Zen, as it is rated Barbados’ No.1 for Food by Zagat. However, we’re pleased that as “foodies” on vacation in the Caribbean’s epicurean capital you enjoyed many of Barbados’ restaurants.

Again, thank you for taking the timeto post this review. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Crane!

Warm wishes,
