“Bajan heritage.. combine with the lunch buffet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

Just reading some of the mixed reviews about Sunbury Planation House. There is so little left of the real Barbados heritage that you can actually feel and touch. The West coast is brillant but really a mega playground of beaches and restaurants. The reason to visit Sunbury Plantation House is to understand what it was like to live in Barbados in the 1600's. The room settings reflect 100% the layout and personal effects of the time.

We visited the house after lunch in the gardens, so the visit was free. My Mum re-called many parts of the house as authentic from her education in Barbados, which made it feel more real for me.

This is my 4th visit to Barbados and 3rd visit to Sunbury Plantation House, when I return to Barbados and learn that another historic building is no longer in use or burned down - ie Sam Lords Castle it make me want to visit again these buildings and enjoy the history as there may not be a next time.

It's a great stop off on a tour but i would recommend combining with lunch to really make an event of it.

“History for the viewing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

This was a stop on part of a day tour. The house is beautiful as you drive up and the entrance is grand. All the furniture is period pieces but there is so much to try to see. several of the rooms are set up with decades of old style eye glasses, old cameras. too much in some areas. The lunch was a buffet and had long lines seems a lot of tours got there at once. The food was good. One time here was enough for me.

“Quick tour”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

Alright, so I was conflicted on what to say about this site. It's good...ish. Probably my hesitation comes from the first floor being lovely, but once you get the the second floor and beyond it's like visiting a jumble sale or your grandmother's attic.

If you want to visit and have your own transportation you'll be ok. The tour doesn't take long and you can be back to your regular day. I wouldn't recommend coming here on a tour bus or with a cruise group, though. There just isn't enough to do here to make it worth the hassle of a large group.

“Back in time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

Just returned from a 2 month holiday in Barbados. Sunbury plantation was well worth a visit and the buffet lunch was really good value. Try the delicious coconut cream dessert. We stayed in Holetown on the west coast and travelled everywhere by bus. From Holetown get a blue or yellow bus to Bridgetown then walk to Fairchild bus station and get bus to 6 cross roads, ask driver to put you off for Sunbury, it is a 10 min. walk through the sugar plantation to the house. The fare is 2 bajan dollars on any bus for any distance. Entrance fee to house 20 bajan dollars.

“Nice but food is average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

This interesting plantation house is worth a visit to see some of the history. Conveniently located next to Six Roads in the center south of the island it also has a Sunday brunch. The food however, is quite hearty and not exactly great. It is just typical "traditional" island food, for packing in a good portion.
