“Very clean and comfortable room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

We stayed for a saturday night to attend a family party.Warm welcome from hosts Will and Wayne.Nothing was too much trouble. We had a room at the back which was very clean and comfy. We missed breakfast(late night before) and were not charged for our drinks in our room which was a very thoughtful touch.Nice to know there is somewhere where we can return to.

Room Tip: Our room was fine at the back if you dont want a view.Dont choose the back if dog barking will upset...

We stayed at the Pier Hotel last Friday and Saturday to celebrate our 128th wedding anniversary and what a lovely friendly place.
A warm welcome greeted us, the lads are truly great hosts and always ready for a laugh.
Our room had a sea view, was immaculately clean and well equipped with whatever you may need? Tea, Coffee or the mini-bar.
The hotel bar is a warm and friendly place where you can easily slip into light hearted conversation with the locals and enjoy 'blowing the froth off a cold one' as our colonial friends say!
When it comes to breakfast! superb is all I can say, something for everyone the full English will certainly keep you going until lunchtime.
Wayne and Will fantastic hosts who really know how to look after their guests, in fact as they say 'Arrive as guests, leave as friends' so true.
Oh and to a previous post 'the seagull's were too noisy' it's the sea side it's where they live!
Conwy down the coast is well worth a visit too.
So in closing just a big thank you to Wayne and Will we will return at some point.

Myself and my partner stayed here for 2 nights. We had been in the snowdonia national park at Betwsy coed for a few nights and was looking for somewhere else to stay for a extra couple of nights. This hotel was very clean and the room was comfortable, the 2 guys who ran the place were very friendly and made us feel welcome. We had an excellent breakfast each morning and the guys were on hand with advice of places to go.Our room had a mini bar as the main bar was closed on Sunday and monday each week,The 2 days we chose to stay! Would have loved to have had an evening in the bar as the local night life is very limited. If you chose to stay here you wont go far wrong .

The room was lovely and we had everything we needed in it. It was clean throughout the hotel. The breakfast.......You have a good choice of cereals to choose from and you can have a full english breakfast as well... plus toast. We did not need to eat till later on in the evening. Wayne and Will are great hosts and after your stay it feels like you have known them for years.

Room Tip: Sea view bedroom

Stayed for 1 night while working in the area. The room was a budget room and a good price at £40.
The room was nice it was very hot when i stayed but opened the window and it never felt to stuffy. Had everything you needed in the room even a mini bar if you wanted to use it, the bathroom was massive. The only reason i could not give a 5 was the walls seemed to be really thin as i could hear everything going on next door. I think there was a public toilet on the same floor as there were lots of load door bangs but all went quiet about 22.30 so it was not an issue.
Breakfast was so nice with plenty of choice and the owners were really friendly.

Myself and my Mother stayed at this Hotel for 1 night on 18.6.13. Wayne and Will were really friendly and welcoming. The first thing we noticed was that the Pier was spotlessly clean throughout and our room was lovely and adequate for our needs. Now!!! what can i say about breakfast ?? One of the best hotel breakfasts i have ever had. Nothing was too much trouble and it was a pleasure to stay at this Little Welsh Gem....... It's just a pity we only had 1 night but we would definately return and certainly recommend it. Thanks to you all xxx

Having read the reviews on Trip Advisor and viewed those on the hotel web-site we booked The Pier Hotel in anticipation of a good stay. However, expectations were not met and we left feeling tired and extremely disappointed at the overall experience and wonder if others stayed in a different hotel.

The pluses:
Welcome was very good - felt expected and a guest and Wayne and Will made good suggestions for dinner at The Bistro (which was very good value) and the room was clean. The breakfast was extensive and portions large, so much so that the second morning we could not eat a cooked breakfast after sampling the fresh fruit, cereals etc. Great choices and cooked well.

The negatives:
The mattress was thin, the duvet meant sized and pillows foam and smelling either of fabric conditioner of Febreeze - none of which helped with quality of sleep. .There was only one bedside lamp so only one person could read in bed, and the TV was so far away, and so small, that it was a strain to watch.

The bathroom was very cramped and you could not sit on the toilet and open the door from the outside. Had the second, single, bed had been removed, a decent sized bathroom could have been achieved. The shelf placed under the mirror above sink obscured the mirror when anything was placed on it. A design fault.

The room overlooked the yard, where three large dogs wandered and used the concrete as a toilet - not very pleasant to look onto. Seagulls nesting on the roof woke us at 2 am, but the really worst part of the whole experience was the noise. On the first night, in the early hours, someone tried to get into our room, banging and rattling the door really aggressively, waking us. After this we both felt quite threatened and insecure in the room. The second night we were woken at 5.30 am by people banging doors, talking loudly with no attempt to keep quiet. The hotel website and the plethora of notices everywhere state that some residents work shift patterns and that the hotel would appreciate some consideration for these guest. I believe that there has also to be consideration for those who have come away for a break.

The second morning we ordered a coffee and this never came - it appeared to have been forgotten and by now then we were just keen to leave so didn't ask again.

When booking I requested a shower, since my partner is disabled and has some mobility problems, and when we checked in we were told that our room had been changed to accommodate us. We were, therefore, put in a room on the top floor and up several stairways.

Overall:
There are slightly more expensive rooms at The Pier, though none are that expensive, so book one of these and not the basic as we did, since you may then not look down into the yard, may be on a lower floor and may even see the sea. Had I known how poor the room was going to be, and the website does nothing to indicate such disparity between rooms, we certainly would have booked an upgrade.

Maybe we have been spoilt with previous hotels that we have stayed in, but I feel that The Pier does not come up to expectations raised on Trip Advisor or its own web-site and is not significantly less expensive than local country hotels over a weekend, that we saw when driving around the area. We booked on the basis of Trip Advisor reviews and feel that overall the reviews are misrepresenting what is on offer.
