“Ideal location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

Just arrived back from golden sands and we had a fab 3 nights stay there. The kids enjoyed themselves and they had plenty to do both on and near to the caravan park.

Close to Rhyl, the beach which is on your back door step and other attractions it is an ideal location for different age groups.

The entertainment was good and is a lot better than others I have visited.

The park is very clean and friendly and the staff were always on hand if needed.

Upgraded to the highest standard of caravan, paying a lot extra! it was awful, dread to think what the lower vans were like. Only good point was that it had heating. The carpet and seats were dirty with marks and stains. The space was very confined and it seemed very dated.

We were placed a good 10 minute walk away from anything and the route to get to it was a road without pavements. At night the street lights were not working and it was pitch black, owners parked their cars half up the pavements despite the double yellow lines which meant you had to walk in the middle of the road, with children and no street lights!

The club/entertainment room was boring, very expensive and smelt bad.

Children running around wild. Whilst we were sitting in the club one night a group of kids just ran in, knocked over all the chairs and ran out again??

The doormen made you feel like a criminal, it was like going on a prison visit! It was like the chatsworth estate.

We decided just to get chips and go back to the caravan The staff in the little shop and chip shop were very nice, this was the only good point :)

Back at our caravan by 9pm and sitting around with the family having a few chips chatting and having fun when we got a knock from some big bloke next door telling us to be quiet because his grandchildren were asleep? We were really perplexed by this and intimidated and attempted to phone security about it but they just said yeah hes an owner and does it to everyone?

The list is quite endless about how bad this place was, I think you need to be in the owners click to be properly welcomed. Wont go back and wont recommend, there are nicer places in the area to stay at.

Room Tip: Dont bother paying extra to upgrade your caravan as we still got a dirty one with stains and black m...

Dear Stacey,

Thank you for your recent review, it certainly reads as a very disappointing stay with us of which I apologise for not meeting your expectations and for the areas where we failed you in product and service.
It is not acceptable for you to have been placed in a caravan which had stains I have forwarded this to the Housekeeper to ensure we review this caravan for future use.
With regards to parking we manage this ensuring they are placed out of danger or in the way of others.

It's sad to read that you found our club room boring - we had the Show bar fully refurbished 3 years ago and have heard nothing but positive comments about it, so I can only assume that you mean the Sandpiper. This is indeed tired looking and due for refurbishment this Winter which of course doesn't help you now, but it does provide a clean environment for all with, in our opinion, good service, drink and food.

With regards to children 'running wild' we manage as much as we can and speak with any parent of whom we feel is not undertaking the responsibility of their children if they are causing a disturbance or upset to other holidaymakers or Owners.

It is also sad to read you felt that unless you were an Owner that you would not get good service this simply is not the case and on reading many other of our reviews here, many others do not believe this.
We value both Owners and Holidaymakers alike. Of course Owners and their families visit the park more regular than others and as such we get to know them, though this does not stipulate for them to set their own rules and as such I shall speak with the Owners Enquiry Team and understand more about this circumstance.

Thank you again for taking the time to review your stay, I understand based on your comments, you will not be wishing to return due to our failures and as such wish you well in wherever you choose as your next location.

Kindest regards,

The Golden Sands Team

Me and my family stayed here in april, when we first got there we didn't know what to expect but has we went into our caravan, it was absoloutley beautiful, so nice that I could of lived in it. The beach is so close to the park which was great and there is an Asda down the road within walking distance along the seafront. The night entertainment on the site was brilliant although if you wanted to go out at night then there is a funfair down the road for the children. Overall are stay was great a deffo re visit is in order!!

Just returned home from a lovely week at golden sands, this park was like a second home during my childhood and into my twenties, haven't been on the site since my parents sold there caravan in 1998,was surprised to find out the jones family had sold the park after nearly 80 years! ,although it has lost the family run feeling, the new owners have spent a lot of money refurbishing the park, especially the entertainments complex,it does look and feel impressive and due to its location so close to the sea,it's perfect for family holidays.
we had 2 caravans between us,my mum had a very big spacious bronze caravan and we were in a very small silver caravan,we actually preferred mums bronze caravan and wished we had gone for bronze too!,only downsides of both caravans were just having the one heater in main living area only, really could have done with bedroom heaters on those freezing cold mornings!
we had problems on first 2 evenings with a group of youths switching off our electric outside, leaving us in darkness 3 times!, this was reported to reception and never happened again, not sure if that was down to security or the youths going home though.
we spent the whole week gazing longingly into the many beautiful caravans for sale and trying to win the lottery!
The shop on site hasn't got much choice but does provide all the basics you need, and asda is a lovely short walk along the sea wall anyway, the chip shop provided good quality and good priced food, meals and snacks are also available in the entertainments complex.
The arcade and swimming pool could be a little bigger but are ok,plenty of daily and nightly entertainment for kids and adults and the bars are very modern and smart.
We had a great holiday on this fantastic holiday park and remembering memories from years ago, definitely be going back for holidays and hopefully one day it will be holidays in our own caravan!

Room Tip: Bronze caravan was actually better than silver!

Dear Gary,

Wow! Great to have you come back and see the changes we have made. We have made a point of remaining true to the Park and instead of altering it completely we have worked on what was already a great product and enhanced it. We continue to do so with the plan of improving the Sandpiper later this year also.

Thank you so very much for your review. Shall I get one of the Owners Enquiry team to give you a call about ownership :0) I speak only in jest, you know where we are and the team are always happy to catch up with a cuppa and go through varying options. Half the time people learn that its more affordable than they ever thought.

We hop to see you again soon,
Kindest regards,

I visited This holiday park from May 27th - 31st May with my partner, 10 month old baby girl, my brother, mother and my uncle. We booked an extra wide silver caravan so that the baby would have plenty of room to crawl around. We arrived at the park at 2pm and were told that our caravan wouldn't be ready until 2.30 so we had a look around the club until then. We got our keys at about 2.45 and were told that there was no wifi that week due to technical problems which was disappointing as the 3G signal was poor. We found our caravan very easily and as requested it was close to the club for my mother who is disabled. We got to the caravan and unlocked the door to find that there was still someone in the bedrooms making the beds. We all sat in the living room area for about 30 mins until he had finished and then started to unpack. There was a double bedroom and 2 twin bedrooms. None of these rooms had space for my daughters travel cot so we had to stand the beds up on their ends in one of the twin rooms and put the mattresses under our double bed to put we travel cot up. This meant that my mother had to sleep in the living room on the pull out sofa bed. When we tried to pull the sofa bed out, there was a piece of board on top of it saying "don't use brocken" ! We tried it anyway and it was fine. The bedrooms were very small for an extra wide silver caravan in my opinion, we have stayed in standard caravans before and they looked the same. There was no heating in the bedrooms just a gas fire in the living room. The bedrooms were really cold and I had to put a lot of blankets in my daughters cot so she didn't get cold in the night. We had to use the spare quilts as extra warmth. One night my partner went to the club to get some food to takeaway and we checked on the leaflet what the opening times were. It said 7-10. He went at 8pm and was told they weren't doing the food to takeaway until 9pm because they were too busy sorting the bingo tickets! He went back at 9pm and ordered and paid for 1 x double cheeseburger, 1x double cheeseburger with bacon, spicy chicken wings and nachos with cheese. He sat and waited for 20 mins and a woman brought him 2 burgers and said sorry that they didn't have any of the other items and refunded him the difference! When he asked her why she didn't tell him this upon ordering, she just said sorry. He brought the 2 burgers back to the caravan which were for him and my brother and realised it was wrong. He had been given a double cheese burger with bacon which was correct but the other order was just a normal cheese burger! I didn't get anything at all. They only managed a few bites of each burger as they were absolutely disgusting. We didn't have food from there for the rest of the week. The following morning I was up at 5am with my daughter and put the fire on while making a cup of tea. My mothers oxygen machine was also running as she has to have this on through the night. All of a sudden all the electricity went off. We checked the fuse box but all was fine. We tried to ring the out of hours mobile number for someone to sort it but it went straight to answer phone. My partner went outside and found the main switch which must have tripped. Every time we left/returned to the park it stank of drains and sewerage due to the work going on at the entrance. Although we had a lovely holiday, we expected that a silver extra wide caravan would be much better than a standard one which we have stayed in before but we didn't see much difference. The park location was great for beach access and close to the Tir Prince carboot and market etc but the park entrance and first impression was not great.

Dear Laylaclare85,

Thank you for placing your review on our park based on your recent stay.

I apologise greatly for the areas where we failed to provide the services promised in our promotional literature. With regards to the service you received In the showbar at Food to Go, although it states on our leaflets and promotional material that we open from 7 - 10 it does also state (opening times are subject to change), though we certainly failed n not making these clear on the night that your partner went to order food and apologise for this as we don't expect everyone to be mind readers either and not having these displayed is unacceptable. In addition the service you were provided has left me shocked as this is by far the usual standard we expect and promote and as such I have brought your notes to the attention of the Retail Manager who has spoken with the team members concerned and now reviewing the ordering process for Food to Go.

I am sorry about you having to wait to be checked into the caravan, unfortunately it happens that not all guests vacate their vans on the departure time and as such puts the time for housekeeping to get in and clean to the high standard behind, I apologise that you were not apologised to and updated at the time.

Travel cots do not fit in the bedrooms and this is promoted in our promotional literature and informed at the time of reserving, though you state that you were not informed of this so I have spoken with the Reception team as a reminder.

With regards to the smell of sewerage on arrival, due to circumstances out of our control we are having to have some important work carried out on the water pipes which caused the smells on the arrival to the Park. These were shortlived and now under control.

I apologise greatly for the failures of ours and have shared your review with the team to rectify any areas they and their teams have not met the regular high standards of service.

Kind regards,

The Golden Sands Team

We have just returned home from our 4th stay at Golden Sands. As per the previous visits we have had a great time. The holiday park is well suited for all age groups and plenty of attractions both on and off site. On this occasion we had a gold plus caravan which was centrally heated, this was handy as the temperature dropped late in the evenings. We have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful with the accommodation very clean. We have put a deposit down for our 5th visit next year and would recommend this holiday park to anyone, my retired parents will be going back for their 3rd visit in a couple of weeks.

Room Tip: Caravans in the new field are quieter but takes approx 10 minutes to walk to the ain complex
