5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

We had a late break at the Anchor Hotel , Tarbert ,Loch Fyne. The car journey passed Loch
Lomond, The Rest and be Thankful, Inveraray and on to Tarbert.
When we arrived we were pleased to find the Anchor Hotel in great shape.
Recently refurbished small harbour side hotel providing boutique accommodation excellent food and friendly helpful staff.

Hope to return to this Hotel next year.

While staying in the area we vistied this hotel for food. Found everything about the hotel faultless! The dining area was spotless and has a very modern and contemporay feel.

Our food was world class.

Will definetely return and perhaps book into the hotel for an overnight stay too!

We stayed here for two nights after booking their special autumn deal, £200 for two nights which included £50 towards dinner. The room was small, no spare floor space at all, but had lovely decor and a comfy double bed. Shower room was the same, small but nice. Terrible sound proofing though, could hear people in the room next door including snoring!

We ate in the Seabed restaurant on our first night. I had langoustines and scallops, both dishes were delicious and well cooked. My husband didn't enjoy his main course (risotto) which was a shame. I ended up asking for a replacement dessert (the ice cream had melted and flooded the plate before it arrived) which they did and the next one I got was very tasty. So dinner was bit of a mixed affair but nice surroundings and friendly staff. Have to say that breakfast on both mornings was very good, excellent quality and enjoyable.

Only other thing to note was that we had our 'do not disturb' sign up until 11am and then changed it to 'please service' when we went out for the day. Turns out we had missed housekeeping, it must be done in the morning. It's a small hotel so could understand and at the end of the day we didn't need new towels and it wasn't a problem to make our own bed up. If you do need your room serviced later in the day would probably be worth mentioning at reception, everyone was helpful and I'm sure they would do whatever you need.

All in all, it's a lovely hotel with friendly staff. But if I had paid £100/night for a small room without a bath and no housekeeping I would probably have been a bit disappointed.

We dined in the restaurant on the 3rd of October, and experienced quality food and drink in a beautiful, well laid out restaurant. However, apart from Hello, everything ok and goodbye, nothing was said by way of conversation. The restaurant was not busy, and whilst I don't expect waiters to take over conversation, surely some interaction is an advantage, particulary in a 'holiday' area.

I’m just back from honeymoon having held my wedding at the Anchor Hotel on Saturday 29th September this year.

The entire event went off without a hitch and the team did much of the organisation to reduce the burden on my wife and I including;
• Organisation of a local cake maker to create a “personal” cake
• Wedding menu and seating plan
• Wedding food tasting menu
• Recommendation of a good local photographer
• Suggestion for local hair & make-up for my wife and others in the wedding party
• A local DJ who was fantastic on the night

On top of this they organised a fantastic meal which included three starters, three mains and a trio of assorted desserts listed below;

Starters
• Beetroot Cured Salmon
• Parfait of Chicken
• Lightly spiced butternut squash soup

Mains
• Beef Wellington
• Mozzarella and Tarragon stuffed chicken
• Monkfish tail with Saffron Sauce

Trio of Desserts: Lemon Mousse, Chocolate Pudding and Guinness Jelly

The wedding food and location was out of this world and many people including myself commented it was the best wedding food they had every had. Others described it as the best organised wedding they'd ever been at.

I cannot thank the staff enough for the professionalism, commitment and hard work they all displayed. This is a small hotel with a big personality and I cannot praise them high enough.

Highly, Highly recommended.

Room Tip: All rooms to an excellent quality standard

Stayed here in October 2012.
The Anchor has a great location right on the harbour with the water literally across the street. Well worth taking a harbour view room for the views. Adequate free parking on the quayside. The building has been recently refurbished; as a result the decoration is clean, new and everything works. All the usual expectations such as tea and coffee were in the room - as was a decent radiator which kept the room warm. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Hotel restaurants are often poor, however the Anchor's Sea Bed resturant was excellent. We had a very nice beautifully presented meal that included fresh scallops, langoustine and locally smoked haddock. The sweets were both pretty and unusual - liquorice ice cream for example (which was lovely). Prices were ok too.

Very nice place. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to a friend.

Room Tip: Pay a little more for the harbour view - well worth it
