“Overnight stay”

Booked an overnight DBB deal via 5pm. Wasn't sure what to expect but had absolutely fabulous time. Hotel is stunning as is the location, yes the rooms could do with a bit of updating but friendly and helpful staff and really oustanding food more than made up for it! Will definitely be back!

What an amazing two nights I've just spent at Stonefield Castle with my boyfriend. We travelled up from Glasgow and if the drive alone wasn't good enough, we were delighted to arrive at this hotel, set in some of the most picturesque landscapes I have ever seen. The reception staff were absolutely fantastic and could not have done more to accommodate us. The room (number 32) was absolutely stunning, boasting the most beautiful view of the Loch, a four poster bed, seperate lounge area and huge bathroom. We enjoyed a long walk along the beach in the rain, which was refreshing to say the least! We ordered room service on the first night and the food was to die for. We then ventured down to Tarbert village on the second night for dinner. Special thanks to the mixologist in the cocktail bar for making us some beautiful drinks. We enjoyed them in our room whilst watching the sun go down. Honestly could not have asked for a more relaxing stay, the staff are a credit to this hotel - the worst part was leaving! I'll definitely be back. Thank you so much! x

Fantastic views, fantastic hotel And friendly staff, communal areas well kept, bedrooms could do with an update, but with views and grounds you don't spend to much time in the room. Breakfast was first class. Would definitely go back and stay longer.

Location is very nice, set in the green, with a great view on the lake, but in 2013 it's not worth the money you paid for it.
We were eager to sleep in a Scottish castle but were disappointed as soon as we have arrived in front of the castle: it really is old (not ancient) and not up-to-date to 2013, everything looks like time has stopped in the 50's-60's, from carpet to furniture. It was probably a very good hotel back at the time, and it's a pity for the management not having renovated it.
Our rooms were in the newest part of the castle, maybe the oldest part's rooms were better furnished.
On a positive note, staff is very friendly and helpful and the lounge rooms for guests are really nice, especially the old library where you can actually open and read ancient books, they give you the authentical mansion atmosphere.

Myself, my husband and 3yr old daughter stayed here in July for 2 nights for my cousin's wedding. The hotel is situated in a secluded area on the loch side, the scenery is stunning, location cannot be faulted.

On arrival, we were shown to our room by a very friendly receptionist, our room was on the first floor up the grand staircase, I think it may have been room 32 or 33. We had requested a pull out bed for my daughter and this was already in place in the room. I would best describe our double room as fairly large, with a view over the loch (and the flat roof of the kitchens), with a large bathroom. However, it was very dated, I understand that this is an old castle, but it could really do with a lick of paint and the rooms brightening up. The soundproofing is not good either, our room was above where the wedding disco was and you could hear every word.

As it was a lovely day, we sat out on the terrace to wait for the rest of my family to arrive. My husband eventually found someone to serve us at the bar, only to be told that the gas on the pumps wasn't working so we could only have bottled beer. This would have been ok, except that the bar prices were very high (even for a hotel). The gas was fixed, only to break again later that evening. Once my family arrived, they also ordered a round of drinks and the bar immediately ran out of bottled cider. This is even before the wedding had begun. Surely you stock up the bar when you know the hotel has been hired exclusively for the weekend, and for a wedding!! This wasn't the only time it ran out of drink, the cider was never replenished and several other spirits also ran out.

The wedding ceremony itself was lovely, it was held out on the terrace overlooking the loch. The wedding breakfast was held in the dining room, again with stunning views. Food was good, although the creme brûlée was definitely not right. Staff were helpful and polite.

Breakfast was plentiful, although I think it could have been of better quality.

Overall, the hotel location is stunning, but it really needs to be updated to be worthy of being anywhere near 3 or 4*. Also, I don't think it justifies the high price they charge.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main castle seemed to have more character than those in the annexe

Had a very relaxing and enjoyable two night break at Stonefield Castle. The views from the room and restaurant were stunning only to be matched by the views when you went out for a walk. The inside of the castle was amazing what you would expect from such an old building. Food was great and along with the reasonable priced bar we had no complaints. Heather on reception always had a smile on her face and answered any questions we had in fact all staff members were helpful. No mobile signal was not a problem because the use of the free phone in your room was at hand if you needed to phone home but we were there to relax so no need to use.

Room Tip: We had a view of Loch Fyne and this added to our stay. Curtains left open so we woke up to wonderful...
