My husband and I have just returned from a trip to the mainland to our home on the island of Islay in the southern Hebrides. We needed somewhere to stay overnight before catching the early morning ferry from Kennacraig and we certainly found a gem of a B & B in Bluebell Cottage. This beautiful newly built house, nestling in secluded woodland is some two minutes from Kennacraig, the ferry port for Islay, and five minutes from Claonaig, the ferry port for Arran. The guest rooms are all beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean with everything that you could possibly want for an overnight stay at your fingertips. We awoke to the sound of the birds singing and the burn running past our window. Iris and Graham are the most welcoming of hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them - they will even ferry you to and from Tarbert for your evening meal! Breakfast is served in the dining room overlooking the garden and there is a selection to suit all tastes, from full Scottish to fresh fruit, yoghurt and cheese. If you are island hopping, walking the Argyllshire Way or merely looking for a secluded retreat on the beautiful Mull of Kintyre you couldn't do better than Bluebell Cottage - it is truly a gem!
