“Super stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

We stayed for a one night break with friends on 23rd February. I was not disappointed with anything at this guest house. You were made to feel very welcome and the rooms were immaculately clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was to die for. Alastair made us all very welcome. Would definitely go back

We stayed as part of our minimoon your of Scotland, we arrived in the pouring rain a little weary to be greeted by Alistair, an absolute credit to his business and the true meaning of hospitality. He showed us to our room, which was comfortable and well appointed including a small fridge with fresh milk, comfy bathrobes and a great powerful shower. The room was a good size, the bed very comfortable and the whole experience fantastic. The breakfast was possibly the best quality B&B breakfast I have had, small touches such as fresh meats and cheeses several cereals and the hot food cooked to order in the open plan kitchen / diner. At this point we had a great chat with Alistair and as a fellow hospitality worker it was fascinating to find somebody so passionate about his craft. The whole place was truly great!

Our stay at Knap Guest House started with a warm welcome from Alistair who had made every effort to have our rooms ready early so that we could change before going to a wedding. Our rooms (double and twin) were extremely comfortable and very well appointed with robes, lovely toiletries, scrumptious biscuits and a fridge with fresh milk and chilled water. As most others have mentioned, Alistair's breakfast is wonderful - several different cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts, meat and cheese etc but the cooked food is even better! I don't normally eat very much at breakfast but I ate plenty on both mornings as it was so good - the toast was even toast and not hot bread as we so often find. We (family of four) recommend Knap House very highly indeed. Thank you again Alistair for making us so welcome and so comfortable.

We stayed at Knap Guest House for one night on our way to Islay. Alistair was a thoughtful host and his cooked breakfast is wonderful, with locally sourced food being a central theme.
Our room was clean and comfy, with a lovely view over the harbour.

I picked staying at Tarbert we were coming off the evening ferry from Islay and the Knap B&B looked ideal. The stay was excellent, sadly for one night only. Alistairs breakfast was sumptuous and alone worth stay. Sitting in the communal lounge, sipping whisky and looking at the harbour was a very pleasant way to end the day. Alastair Also put us onto visiting the Dal Riata site on the way back to Edinburigh, this is where the original Scotti took a foothold in Scotland when the moved in from Ireland. Absolutely fascinating area!
Be wary, Alistair has a thing for elephants and elephant items litter the house. : )

Room Tip: From what we can see they are all good, all four of them.

Our stay in Knap Guest House - what a great experience!! The rooms were immaculately clean and tastefully furnished, the location is good, a short stroll to the recommended restaurants and as for the breakafasts, Alistair does himself proud cooking in his open kitchen and offering local produce which is very well presented.

We were made very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it for anyone considering a visit to Tarbert.

The Knap Guest House has an excellent location on the harbour, between the bank and the Co-op. The proprietor of the Knap has many years experience in hospitality management and it shows. My companion and I have visited hotels worldwide and we appreciated the attention to detail at the Knap. E.g., our room had a refrigerator and bathrobes, both unusual in a B & B. There was an excellent shower, the opposite being a pet hate.

The sitting room had a good view over the harbour and free access to the Internet. The breakfast room is open plan, enabling you to chat with the proprietor as he cooks the food. If you have any queries, that is the time to ask!

There are many artefacts in the public areas that are wonderful talking points. Hopefully, you like elephants!
