“great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2008

Old victorian property.some nice features,no lift as you may expect in an old property.
We were unable to get a sea view but the room was adequte.
Huge bathroom with good shower. We booked a table in the conservatory for our first nights evening meal. However,no table was available in conservatory although it had been booked since 10am.food was acceptable,I chose roast of the day which was beef and this was quite tough.
The following night, the specials were exactly the same and the roast of the day was beef again so we chose to eat out.
The reason O am giving this hotel above average is its superb
location and its breakfast which is definetely the best I have ever
been offered anywhere

I have recently returned from a long weekend in this typical Victorian hotel which was built with the coming of the railway to Port Erin (narrow gauge steam, still running today). It is in an excellent location, situated right on the cliff overlooking the harbour and beach. The original fishermen's cottages still line the beach and there are lovely views over the bay to Milner's Tower on Bradda Head where the sun sets. There has been very little change in the town in a hundred years, it has kept its character and has not been spoilt with concrete, plastic and bright lights, still a family resort, eating ice cream on the lawns overlooking a beautiful sandy beach or a walk along the glen and further on the cliff path to Bradda Head.
Rooms were spacious, clean and well furnished and decorated, a comfortable bed with nice bed linen and good quality towels. Tea and coffee making facility and TV with choice of channels, spacious bathroom with bath and shower. Maid service and towels changed daily.
Breakfast was served in the original grand dining room (high stucco ceilings and candelabra) while evening meals could be taken in the restaurant overlooking the bay. Breakfast was very good, an excellent choice of fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurts, cooked breakfast, ham, cheese, pastries, fruit juices, toasts and jams and of course, Manx kippers. We had dinner on two occasions and had no complaints, freshly cooked, good quality ingredients and well presented.
In the evening there is a well stocked bar which is popular but also there is a separate 'pub' which seems to be the main attraction for the young people in the town, quite a lively place.
We found the staff friendly, very helpful and courteous at all times, especially the staff at reception who more than answered our queries on non-hotel related matters, giving us leaflets and information. In all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would be more than happy to return.

We stayed for two nights at this Hotel. On arrival it looked a bit tired and I thought I might have made a mistake in choosing to stay here. However, I was wrong. The view from the bedroom was facing the sea with a fantastic view looking out onto Port Erin bay. Everything was spotlessly clean but old fashioned and in need of an update, but that didn't matter because it was warm and comfortable. The food was just fantastic and reasonably priced. I'd recommend staying in here for evening meals and book a table in the conservatory. Although the conservatory is tiny the view is great. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice. The staff were very polite and friendly. (The Island has now adopted the no smoking policy). Would definitely stay here again, but would like to see some money spent on updating it.

The Falcons Nest is a very good hotel, deserving more than its 2* status. The rooms have been recently refurbished and are clean and spacious, some with wonderful views of the bay. The meals were excellent value with a wide choice, and well presented. The hotel is very good value and I would recommend it for a break in the Isle of Man.

Spent four nights at Falcons Nest and generally agree with NPExile. Our recently refurbished room (could just smell the paint) had great views over Port Erin Bay. It was comfortable with 4-poster bed. There was a seperate single room attached. The bathroom was ernormous (also refurbished):corner tub and shower. Shower was a bit temperamental and nobody could tell us how to make the sink plug work! The only downside was that there was no electric shaver point.

The food was reasonable quality and plentiful, just that one one occassion it took three attempts to be served what I ordered.

Reception staff very helpful, answered all our questions (except about the sink plug!) and made sure we got the most out of our stay.

The Isle is a great place to visit, the train/bus rover tickets good value for money. We will go back. And stay at the Falcons Nest.

We spent 3 wonderful nights at the Falcon's nest hotel. We had a lovely sea view room with lots of space and a very comfy bed.
The room was clean and tidy.

We ate in the restaurant 2 nights and apart from an ever present parsley garnish the food was very good and local! Can highly recommend the sausages and mash. We also enjoyed the carvery and again it was very good.

The staff were friendly and professional.

Isle of Man is beautiful and 3 days is just not enough to see the sites and visit the attractions that were open in Feb. So we will definantly be going back for a longer stay.

Hotel showing its age in places but providing adequate, clean accommodation.

We were lucky enough to have one of the top floor appartments overlooking Port Erin Bay (lots of stairs though).

Restaurant a bit hit and miss but good breakfast and super carvery at weekends, but watch it if you fancy a carvery on Sunday lunchtime as that was also the only menu available on Sunday evening.

2 bars catering for most tastes, although tend to be a bit smokey.

Importantly they will remove the sparkler from the real ale pumps if you ask. (It does tate better without the large head, honest). Okells Bushy and 2 guest ales usually available.

Excellent service in bars and from reception. Rather variable in restaurants

We had a 5 day Train/Tram/Bus ticket and hired a car for 4 days after that to see the rest of the island

  • Liked — Views from bedroom and verandah
  • Disliked — Limited menu on some evenings
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't expect to eat here every night. The restaurant in Bradda Glen is well worth a visit and the bar at the Bay Hotel has a different selection of guest ales
