we just returned from Isle of man and had a wonderful time at the cherry orchard. The self catering apartment was adequate for out needs. Two things if that could be called bad were the spring loaded doors which banged everytime we forgot to close quietly and the lack on ensuite. It is quite difficult to have four people wanting to use the loo at the same time! On the whole, our stay was comfortable, my husband loves his classical music and the rooms had radios, so he was quite happy listening on his own!
Being a food critic, I was very impressed by the food at the chequers pub within the complex. We had two meals there and both were of excellent quality. Loved the swimming pool and hot tub. staff were very friendly, we were given discount card to swipe at the super market. We saved massive 10p on our first shop! It is not the hotel's fault, they have no control of what supermarket charges. Every where we went on the island, we enjoyed it. It was refreshing to see lack of traffic! 6 cars on a road is a traffic jam on the island. From north to south, we travelled and enjoyed the manxx ice cream which seems to be very good. An ice cream parlour in Peel sea front was lovely, we went there twice. Filled with locals. great place to be if you are an ice cream lovers. Also visited Moors smoke house and a shop in Peel. Bought famous manxx smoked kippers and bacon. I am not very fond of either but our party highly recommended them. They scoffed the lot. Although I did manage to bring back couple of packs before they all disappeared! We visited the only theatre in Douglas to see Beauty and the Beast on Ice. It is a very lovely theatre. As I am disabled, I was very impressed by the disabled parking facilities everywhere on the island. Everywhere in England, we do not get that respect! In London, I have to pay parking charges everywhere. There are free two hours parking discs available on the island for everyone and I think that is a very good idea. The Island is complete devoid of speed cameras. Unbeilivable. Perhaps mainland England should learn a thing or two from the islanders! All the councils are interested is in collecting parking fines in UK. Shame on them. Property prices are quite steep, but then it is expected, the tax rate is cheap as well, so people, if you want to live in peace, move to the island. Definitely plus for bringing up the kids.
