“Excellent.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

We have been thinking of having a meal here for ages and finally made it today. We had a spectacular view of the river Wye as the melting snow had caused it to break it's banks and it really was racing. The menu was huge and there was also a choice of 2 roasts. We made the mistake of having starters!! These were big and a meal on their own.The main courses were also very generous and we felt really bad that we couldn't clear our plates of such delicious food. The price was very reasonable so we shall certainly return....as soon as possible.

“Mediocre would be an exaggeration”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

Lovely setting but food was a major disappoiontment.
Went for a mid week family meal and despite the extensive menu choice the food that was served did not live up to its description.
Barman was surly , miserable and unhelpful but the waiter at least was cheerfull and attempted to deliver a service at an acceptable standard.
The food generally seemed to have been "nuked" in a microwave as it was extremenly hot to say the least. The presentation was poor and slap dash, and made the food appear as tasteless as it actually was.
The pork was apparently organic but could not be tasted due to the overpowering flavour of the herbs and apple sauce it was served with.
Most meals came with little/no veg and this is not explained on the menu.
Will not be going back.

“Great views over the Wye”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

We drove out to the Boat Inn from Hereford (just over 15 miles) for a family meal; 6 of us ranging in ages from 10 to 69. The view from the restaurant over the Wye is superb & most of thought it was worth the trip out just for this. The menu was fairly extensive and catered well for some fairly fussy eaters, including a veggie. Everybody was very happy with the food which came in generous portions, in fact two of us failed to finish the mains, after the very generous starters. The steak strips were especially tasty and highly recommended; you won’t need a large main afterwards. The bill was very reasonable & service was pretty quick as well as nice and friendly, not so sure about the older chap serving behind the bar though.

“Welcome rest: Great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

Having just completed a 10 mile kayak trip, we finished up at the Boat Inn in Whitney-on-Wye. We were both very hungry and the lunch didn't disappoint! The menu was extensive and catered for all tastes as I am vegetarian. The choice was wonderful. We had tomato and basil soup with fresh warm bread which was made by the chef and a bowl of chips! The soup was amazing and the chips were big chunky, crisp and not greasy! Wonderful!!!!

We decided to go back for dinner that night before leaving for home the following morning. Again, we weren't disappointed. I had veggie lasagne and my husband had lamb shank. Both cooked to perfection with fresh vegetables. We followed this with choc fudge cake and treacle and nut flan. Yum, yum and double yum!!!!! Absolutely delicious.

Everything is made in the kitchen, even down to the pasta and it tells.

The Inn is in a lovely location too, next to the River Wye with fabulous views around.

Can really recommend this very friendly restaurant with an amazing menu!
