“Home from Home”

Lorraine and Brian were incredibly welcoming and made me feel very much at home. It was the perfect remedy from a long hard day.

The rooms are spacious and very tastefully decorated.Breakfast was delicious and the whole property is spotlessly clean. Very well placed with beautiful views from the bedroom. Highly recommended all round.

A really lovely little hotel, hospitable, warm, very clean and neat.
The meals were extremely good and obviously cooked with care. Nice touches included a large choice of morning newspapers, binoculars to view local wild life in the room, large TV in the guests lounge and we were always welcome to use the conservatory to relax in. Another plus for my partner who suffers from back pain, was the bed –spanking brand new with an excellent ‘memory foam’ mattress. We were made to feel genuinely at home and overall nothing was too much trouble for the proprietors.

This was by far the worst experience ever. We had booked a couple of weeks before and the initial room was reasonable but in the middle of our stay we were ordered to move and were given a crummy room. As it was early in the year we were suprised that on our arrival there was no heating and every day the heating only came on for one hour in the morning and then at 4.30 pm in the evening. The hot water was also switched off at 9.30 am so you could not have a warm wash after that. The hoteliers had forgotten that we had ordered an evening meal on our first night and what was served was extremely poor and very! very expensive. The wine was also way over priced at £18 a bottle of a wine retailing at £3.75. A disasterous experience. We did complain to the Devon Tourist Board but were fobbed off and passed from one office to another.
In its broshure the hotel also quoted its fine views. These had been obscured in about 1930 when a substantial number of houses were constructed around it.

  • Liked — The lay out of the first bedroom was OK and the small car park was convenient
  • Disliked — It was a complete rip-off. Charges were for 5* for NIL* place. It compared favourably with a 1920's Scarborough doss-house

Very pleasant stay. Hotel very well run and is everything I would expect. Clean and bright decor, hospitable host, excellent views and well maintained gardens.
