“Always reliable and enjoyable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

We have been to this little restaurant on numerous occasions. Today there were two of us for lunch and a coffee. The Three Salad bowl was delicious with a lovely combination of flavours - green salads, barley with dressing, courgettes etc in ribbons, tomato and coleslaw. This was served with a generous portion of their home made granary bread and butter. Highly recommended. The mushroom, spinach and red onion soup was so tasty, this too was served with a generous portion of granary bread and butter.
The restaurant is one of the original mill buildings and there is also seating outside in the courtyard or a little garden on the other side of the building.
The environment is charming with little craft shops to browse and a bakery/local produce shop for something out of the ordinary.
Do visit the Mill yourself, you will not be disappointed. If we have friends visiting us I often take them there as it is so nice.

“An exquisite setting, but you can't eat that”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

Yes, the Mill is fascinating and the river walk is idyllic, plus the setting is quaint, cosy and charming. But restaurants are all about the food and the experience quality.

After sitting for a while you realise that you have to pick your dish off a menu displayed on a door well away from the outdoor eating area, and then someone secures your table while the other places the order. Your food is thankfully brought to you at the table. The fish-and-chips were average; nothing special but pleasant enough. The crab was ..... bland. The brie and onion confit was the stand-out. As usual for this part of England, the wine by the glass was ridiculously expensive, but the ale was excellent and fair-priced.

So yes, very pretty, but don't go there expecting something special in the line of actual food. It is .... decently average.

“Not only home cooked burt home milled flour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

We walked here from budleigh salterton, and had lunch here. Plough humans lunch was good with a lovely salad. Bread of course lovely, there could have been a bit more though ...

Take a few minutes to go round the mill itself, and if you can go on a day when they are milling. I think you can see this on their website.

Walk back along river bank to budleigh salterton is nice
