“Good value, quiet location, amiable hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2011

The B&B is located almost at the top of a steep hill, with no through traffic (thus very quiet at night), close to the coastal pathway and also to the village centre with several restaurants.
Lovely and helpful hosts, serving you tea and cake on arrival, providing you with advices if you wish so and making an extensive and nicely cooked breakfast.
We stayed one night in the Bramley room, which is really large with a separate sitting/TV area. The twin beds are very narrow, but with comfy mattresses. Unfortunately, the furniture, décor and bathroom are a bit dated, but the B&B still offers good value for money.

My wife and I stayed for two nights (mixed business and leisure) in the Bramley room which has a small reading/TV room, ensuite bathroom and a partially obscured view of the sea!

Upon arrival at 10pm, after a very long journey, we were provided with a very warm welcome and tea and cake. The room was very clean and the property is well maintained.

Appletree Cottage is in a quiet location, but is very close to the centre of Budleigh Salterton and the coastal path.

Breakfast was delicious and Hilary provided soya milk for my wife.

Free wifi is available in the hotel.

I would thoroughly recommend staying at Appletree Cottage - excellent value for money.

Booked this bed and breakfast on the net and struck gold.
Lovely room, great location,terrific
Fresh breakfast and a lovely hostess.
On booking in we were offered a drink and were amazed to be presented with a pot of tea for two complete with two large slices of cake at no charge.
If you're looking for friendly reasonably priced accommodation in the area you won't find better.

We stayed here for a night and it made a very good base. The room was spacious (although we had the biggest one) with a good bathroom and tea/coffee etc. I'm always surprised how B&B's often provide much better value for money than hotels. Everything is within walking distance and the owner had plenty of advice.

The only thing I would add is that although there is parking outside it is a bt limited and on a hill so if you want a bit more space there is a council one at the bottom which is free so grab a space down there. Beware that there are other car parks but they are private and charge quite a lot for long stay.

I would definitely return to the B&B again. There's not a huge amount to do in Budleigh but it makes a good base and I reckon it's cheaper than Sidmouth.

A very friendly welcome from Hilary and good service throughout my stay. Appletree Cottage is situated in a quiet street leading to the coastal footpath and a few minutes walk from the beach. The high street with local shops and restaurants is only a couple of minutes walk away. A very good full English breakfast is served with a smile by Hilary who is also very helpful with information on local attractions. As a solo traveler, I had the smallest room on offer with shared facilities but found this OK and very good value. The comfortable bed and the quiet location ensured a good night's sleep. I had the opportunity to see the other larger rooms on offer which were well appointed and have en-suit facilities. To sumerise, Appletree Cottage is clean, friendly, good value for and very well situated. I shall certainly visit there again and would recommend it without hesitation.

Appletree Cottage is located in a quiet street near to Budleigh Salterton town centre and the beach. The rooms are comfortable with the Bramley room having a separate sitting room with TV and tea/coffee making facilities and also an en-suite shower room making is ideal for families. The locaion makes it a great base as it is close to many attractions in east Devon.
Hilary and Stuart (owners) are friendly and provide good service and a great breakfast meaning you won't need lunch! On arrival they greet you with coffee/tea and cakes which is very welcome after journeying there.
We have been going there for the past four years and look forward to many more visits in the future.

I play a lot of tournament Croquet and am constantly looking for B&B accommodation that is comfortable, well furnished and reasonably priced. I 'found' Appletree Cottage three years ago, it was excellent then and still is. Hilary makes one very welcome and serves a first class breakfast that well and truly sets one up for the day - who needs lunch?!

Appletree Cottage offers a choice of rooms at very reasonably prices and, importantly, Hilary will take single bookings and not charge a 'supplemnt' neither will the rooom suddenly be 'unavailable' Don't tell too many people just in case I can't book!
