Firstly, Gandria deserves a special mention. The 1 hour walk from the bus stop ( bus 2 from lugano to castagnola ) in castagnola to gandria is fascinating.... Beautiful lake views, mountains and a small village feel, friendly passer by's, palatious houses / villa hotels, with funiculars, small old houses , cobbled streets up the hill and you arrive at Locanda Gandriese.
A warm welcome... A little unsure of non european tourists perhaps... The terrace outdoors is brilliant...Breezy! Sunny, and a view to kill for... A nice menu.. Good wines, nice food and friendly unintrusive service. We were assist.ed by the lady ( owner perhaps ) and a friendly staff Hander..if i recollect correctly... This is a child friendly place,i. Would say...
Nice portions..well priced... A few glasses of wine, a big portion of spaghetti aglio olio, a giant plate of potato gnocchi and a kids portion of spaghetti pomodoro worked to about chf 60..
Note: no buses on public holidays and no boats in winter...so if you are walking it, be prepared to walk back.... You surely wont complain about the pleasant trek back...i would call it moderate as our young kids aged 6 and 3 did it with some difficulty
