“Return to Chinchon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

We first stayed at this Parador some ten years ago and loved it. This time we were driving from Bilbao to Marbella and needed a stop halfway. Chinchon is ideally placed and only a few miles from the main road south.we phoned the Parador from the car and had no trouble getting a room.
This Parador is beautiful and very quiet and peaceful. The restaurant was excellent if understaffed but the only waiter coped very well and anyway there was no hurry. The gardens are lovely and you should spend time exploring. Chinchon town was very quiet this visit and almost every restaurant was quiet.could be due to the Spanish economy. The hotel can supply secure parking for a small extra charge.well worth it if you have a heavily loaded car as you otherwise have to park your car in the town square.

We didn't stay at this hotel, but we visited the grounds and they were wonderful, such a nice place to relax in the gardens or in the patio. The place is very inviting and seems like a great place for a special celebration. The only noise we could here while we were there was from an idiot in an orange (???) Lamborghini at the entrance trying to impress some people, but once he was done showing off his stupidity, the peace was very enjoyable.

Really enjoyed the stop-over in the small town of Chinchon. The Parador was a convent and the conversion to a hotel has been done very sympathetically. Just outside the hotel is the Town. A circular car-park in the centre with shops at ground level and restaurants with balconies over. Apparently the car park becomes the bull ring a couple of times a year! The people were very friendly and we enjoyed a very nice meal without a word of English being understood. Beware the locals don't eat till late - restaurants open between 20.30 & 21.00hrs. We didn't eat at hotel so can't comment.

Chinchon is a small, historic village ~40 minutes SE of Madrid. Our last stay was a decade ago, and we found the village remains charming and the Parador still providing a fine stay. Our room [#103] was spacious, with French windows overlooking a fountain and the attractively landscaped gardens. As others have mentioned, soundproofing may be less than desired in some walls however we found fellow guests were respectfully quiet both nights. A fine breakfast buffet featuring local specialties was well presented. Front desk staff was friendly and very helpful. We left before 6AM our last morning and though we only inquired about possible "coffee and rolls" the staff prepared a buffet of juice, fruit, yogurt, meats, breads and coffee set on a table for us shortly after 5:30 AM - outstanding service provided with smile!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms 103 - 105.

I totally dislike this experience. The hotel was nothing comparable to a 4 stars hotel and very expensive price for a small-town hotel in low season (Chinchon appeared to be desolate) in Spain: 196 euros including breakfast for a double room with breakfast, more other 11,5 euros for parking.
The worst thing has been the room impact. No help with luggage, they gave us the key and we go upstairs on our own: as soon as we entered in the room we smelled sewer or bad egg! No vacuum fan in the bathroom, we had to open water in bidet, washbasin and bathrobe, and windows and door of the room to change air and to reduce the smell. I add the observation of some suspected residual in wc, in spite of sanitation stick and some hair on washbasin. One bidet towel missing. Unfortunately we were to tired to complain.
About the style of the hotel, common areas were elegant and nice, but superior corridor room were depressing, with the atmosphere of the old monastery still inside of them. Not at all fascinating. Breakfast very expensive, too much in my opinion, but good.

We chekced in and were provided with a charming room overlooking the gardens. The price seemd reasoable at €116 for a double room with breakfast. The Parador, which was fomerly an abbey, is very elegantly furnished with lovely gardens.
Although the rooms are very pelasant we were distrubed by the television attached to the wall of the adjacent room. This is an issue other guests have mentioned.
The telly was turned off around 1 am and came on agian at 8. When we went down to breakast "Nessun Dorma" was playing over the sound system. Seemed cruelly apt.
The breakfast is slightly odd - a selection of "buffet" items served at table - we'd have preferred to have had a buffet.
We were charged €10 for parking the bike in the Parador garage - London pricing!
