“Stay in a Medieval Palace Close to the Airport”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

What's more charming than touring an old walled city? Staying in a castle on the square which has all the modern conveniences and very nice service. We got the room with the big window overlooking the square which is a noisy playground around 5 pm when the kids get out of school and all the moms sit in a cafe to watch them play.

We chose the hotel because of an early morning flight, but the pinxcho bars are top notch and Honadarribia is another scenic stop in the Cote Basque tour.

Situated in a beautiful square in the old town, this small family-run hotel provided an excellent and very friendly service at a reasonable price. A short walk from restaurants in the town, both within the walls and outside. The beach at Hendaye is recommended accessed by frequent ferry service.

Room Tip: Ask for a view over the square, although on hot evenings the noise from the bar opposite may be anno...

We had a very nice room on the top floor overlooking one of the two plazas in the old city. The building is beautiful ancient building in the old city, very nicely renovated and with all modern conveniences. The staff really bent over backwards to help us get settled in and then get to the airport on time the next day. All for a reasonable price. I would look forward to returning another time.

Top hotel, fabulous location.
Book it now!
Although this was the smallest room we stayed in during 2 weeks in northern Spain it was clean, cosy and very cute.
I'd return in a flash!
Being in Hondarribbia helps but it really is a lovely place to spend a few nights.

Room Tip: Charming room overlooking courtyard

The Hotel Palacete is a hidden gem located on the edge of a pedestrian square in the heart of the medieval old town. The hotel is a modern adaption of a medieval house with access to the upper floors via a stone spiral staircase. Whilst vehicle access to the old town is restricted and parking is limited, the hotel does have a few allocated roadside spaces, so ask when you book in and you may be lucky. Otherwise, there is public parking a short walk away. The room was well presented, spacious and very clean. Our room was on the second floor and over looked the square. We stayed only one night, but would have stayed longer. There are only a few restaurants in the old town and they are expensive. Better to go down to the seafront where there are numerous and various types of restaurant. Breakfast was a little disappointing and if we had been staying another night we would probably and gone elsewhere. Nevertheless, we found the stay at Hotel Palacete to be excellent and would recommend it to our fellow travellers.

We did not know what to expect here. The reviews seemed good and the location was perfect, but... We were so glad that we chose Hotel Palacete. The staff were delightfully helpful, the rooms were spacious, the hotel was quiet! We loved our stay here - except perhaps for the four days of rain! Our only problem was finding our way to the hotel - but if we had followed the signs it would not have been a problem. Our GPS let us down and tried to take us the wrong way.

On our first trip to Spain, we wanted to begin in Hondarribbia, a picture perfect seacoast town on the border of France reputed to have the best tapas in Spain. Amazingly, the medieval town is literally a 10 minute walk / 3 minute cab ride from the airport for the city of San Sebastian, and this small, charming hotel is situated on the most perfect old square in the old village, just around the corner from the famous parador that costs three times as much.
The website does an accurate job of describing the hotel, but it can't begin to capture the delightful atmosphere inside and outside the building. Palacete provides a delightful terrace on the square for breakfast, drinks throughout the day, evening apertif, etc., and the square provides a non-stop window into life in this Basque village. Children play throughout the evening, a Basque clown show performed one afternoon, couples stroll, and only the occasional tourist wanders through with a camera. I could have sat for hours.
The staff could not have been more helpful and interested in us, the room was sparkling, with the view over the square that I had asked for, and the inexpensive breakfast included fresh orange juice endless coffee, and local cured meats.
A 10 minute walk to the airport, the area of shops and restaurants, or the beach, this hotel is a quiet, beautiful retreat from the busy world.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window on the square.
