“Sweet little hotel in a so/so skiing area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2008

We stayed at the Vila Zorile for 5 days at the very end of the ski season. I really liked the place, although the skiing was just ok. It is about 15 minutes walk to the lift that was working. They say they have a shuttle, but since we were at the very tail end of the season, it was not running.

The rooms are very cozy and warm. TV with HBO, soft beds, down comforters, and private bath. There was also a shared balcony off our room. (we had the double with matrimonial bed - ie queen). Breakfast every morning was an assortment of meats, cheeses, cereals, veggies, and a couple of breads. They will make eggs for you as well.

We had no problems with the staff at all. Granted they are not overly outgoing, but were never rude and always tried to answer our questions. I threw my back out skiing, and they called in a masseur who really helped. Oh, and they also have a sauna, but tell them 2 hours ahead of when you want to use it, so they can heat it up.

This is the place where Nicole Kidman stayed when filming 'Cold Mountain'. It is beautiful. We wanted a room with a bath and when we got there ours didnt have one. We had paid £50 per night accomodation and the room was nice. But the room with the bath was huge as was the en suite bathroom and huge corner bath and shared balcony. For this we paid another £25 per night on top. We had done everything cheaply, and I wanted the holiday to be romantic, seeing as I was getting to snowboard, and my lovely lady had never tried it before. The room we stayed in was the one Nicole Kidman actually stayed in! The breakfast served is Romanian, if your not Eastern European, you probably would not be very impressed, it was a nicely presented buffet, and was edible if you were selective! There was cereal (choco bombs!) and if you were lucky a little fruit as well, we got by on that!
Unfortunately the staff seemed to struggle to smile, and you always felt like they were talking about you in Romanian, they were very grumpy indeed! Only one girl smiled and unfortunately she wasn't always there! It was about a 15 minute walk to the lifts in the morning, but you didn't really notice it with the excitment of going boarding. A few smiles, better breakfast and slightly closer to the slopes this place would be perfect! I would recommend it. Take a look here at the website http://www.vila-zorile.ro/
