“The perfect Tuscan retreat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed at Badia a Coltibuono for 2 nights and absolutely LOVED it! The grounds are beautiful and setting picturesque. It was amazing to think we were staying in an 800 year old building, and that we got to sleep in the monks' rooms! So at the same time, while the setting was beautiful, the rooms were fairly rudimentary and smallish, although we didn't feel like they were missing anything. The amenities in the bathroom smelled amazing (made with olive oil), so I very much enjoyed that bit as well! The place is quite isolated so you literally didn't hear anything at night, which made for a relaxing deep sleep. The air was cool and crisp when we went, so it was nice to sleep with the windows open. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, and I agree with one of the other reviewers about the fact they could also serve it out in the gardens to make it perfect (instead of the breakfast room, which was still very pretty). Nevertheless the setup of the breakfast made it easy to get to know the other travelers there, and share stories and tips from their travels. Make sure to try the restaurant on site, which had delicious and unique Tuscan dishes, as well as book a wine tasting tour, which also gives you a history of the place. We did ours at 5pm, then got ready for dinner on site.
Last but not least, the service at Badia a Coltibuono was amazing, and they went out of their way to assist us when we needed it.
One tip I would recommend if you are planning on staying there -use a GPS! It's not the easiest place to find, although as you get closer you start to see the signs for it.

Dear friends,
we all thank you so much for this detailed review, and for having catched the spirit of Badia a Coltibuono, that is to accompinying our guests trhough history, beauty, flavours and nature in the warmest way we can: you please us coming to visit Badia a Coltibuono coming from so far all over the world, and welcoming you with care is the minimum we can do. Thank you for the nice suggestion to set up breakfast outside in the garden: we're thinking about to find a solution as soon as we can, could be next time you'll come you'll enjoy your "torta al limone" under the Magnolia tree:-).
Thank you very much indeed,
and my hope to have the pleasure to welcome you again soon,
Adria Gauni

Wer stayed for 4 noghts at the wonderful hotel of badia a coltibuono.
The hotel is in a beautiful surrounding in the middle of the chiati area, just 8 km away from radda in chianti. Either florence of siena is just a 45 minutes car drive through a very nice landscape - toskana at its best.
We got with two people in the fattore apartment which was really huge.
The apprtment was very nice, very clean and the stuff of the hotel was really nice and friendly.
Also the breakfast facility and the restaurant was very worth visiting.
All in total it was just a perfect stay.

Stumbled upon this magnificent property while out touring the countryside. Look up the tour times because the grounds, building & cellar are so worth seeing. The last tour of the day includes a wine tasting.

Returned to Badia after staying in 2011. Just as amazing. Grounds need to be seen to be believed. We again stayed in the Granery apartment which I think for the size (can sleep 5-6 and there were 4 of us) is a great deal. Looks out onto the garden, has outside dining area, full kitchen. staff is friendly and helpful. Dinner at their restaurant was maybe the best dinner we had in 15 nights in Italy. Highlight for all 4 of us was taking the cooking class w/ the chef. About 5 1/2 hrs making panzanella, gnochi, vegetable stock, zuchinni flowers, potatoes, braised chicken and desert. And we got to eat it w/ wine! Not cheap but worth every euro.He gave us the recioes so we can try to recreate back home. Badia is also close to many other sights/towns in Chianti. We hope to make the trip to Badia at least a semi annual event. This year we didnt do their breakfast but instead cooked in all 4 mornings. Also made dinner 2/4 nights. Picked up food in the towns we visited. It also doesnt hurt their wine is delicious.

Room Tip: for 300euro the Old Granery is a deal for what you get. Split between 2 couples and you get a huge a...

I have been fortunate to have visited Badia a Coltibuono for the past three summers. We enjoyed a beautiful brunch in a large private room, complete with apple cakes, lemon olive oil cake, breads, foccacia, yogurts and fruits. We also visited the restaurant. I had the asparagus and ricotta flan with a poached egg. It was quite good. It had a gentle taste and texture, the egg completed the dish both visually and tastewise. Several of us had the homemade pasta with wild boar sauce, very delicious. I also had the white beans that are somehow simple but so fabulous. I finished the dinner with a cannoli with a strawberry sauce and hazelnut ice cream. Overall, the food was fantastic, but the wait staff was superior! I have never had such wonderful service and we had a party of six adults and four children 4 and under. Thank you for such a memorable visit.

This is a quite amazing place. The scenery is truly beautiful, and the rooms, the gardens & surrounds, the resteraunt and service were all excellent. Close to pretty villages, and lovely walking in the forests that surround.
