“This Place was Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

My husband and I cannot say enough good things about Badia a Coltibuono! We stayed here for 3 nights in between a very busy Florence and Rome trip. It was the perfect 3 nights of rest and relaxation in one of the most beautiful and unique settings we have ever seen. The surrounding hills reminded us very much of the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, which we love very much. But they are different and have that beautiful Tuscan scenery all around. The grounds of the property are amazing. We sat in the courtyard drinking wine many late afternoons and after dinner. We always felt like we had the place to ourselves. The garden was so beautiful and we can't believe that was the view from our room! Our beds were comfortable and the room was a nice size. There is no air conditioning and while I was a bit concerned with that since we were staying in late August, it ended up being no problem at all. The hills are much cooler than the city and the breeze in our window at night was perfect. It was so peaceful and silent at night that we got excellent sleep here! We spent one day hiking in the surrounding property, which was beautiful but a somewhat strenous hike. We saw wild boar tusk and a bone of a leg and a wallowing pool where they sometimes lay and were a bit concerned we would see a live one but it ended up being fine! We ate in the restaurant all three nights we stayed and it was some of the very best food we had in all of our 2 week vacation in Italy. The Tuscan bread soup was one of the best things I have ever had. We also swam in the pool one afternoon and it was very refreshing and maintained well. We took a wine tour with Francesca and found it to be informative and the wine there is fantastic. We loved the Chianti Classico Riserva 2008 and ordered some to be shipped back home to us. The abbey itself was a fascinating place to stay in. We loved the history of the area and the story of the property. We ventured into 2 nearby towns that were not far and easy to drive to. The breakfast was from 8-10 and I wish it had been a bit longer because we wanted to sleep in here. However it was good. It was a buffet with all kinds of different choices that were good and satisfying. The server will also make you a cappuccino as well. I wish we had been able to stay one or two more nights! We would absolutely stay here again and would recommend this to anyone. We couldn't believe we were actually staying here the entire time we were here because it was so amazing and something you only see on TV or read about!

Room Tip: there is no fitness center, the hiking in the woods is the best fitness center!!!

“Magical spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

We spent three nights here on our recent honeymoon. The minute we drove up the winding drive and arrived, we were unbelievably impressed with Coltibuono. The grounds were gorgeous, the innkeepers gracious and helpful, and the on-site restaurant divine. The wine and olive oil were out of this world, and we even had some shipped home to enjoy again and again.
I would definitely recommend this hidden gem to anyone who is looking for a true 'back in time' experience in the countryside of Italy.
My only negative was that we left too soon.....we are already talking about returning to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary.

Room Tip: We had a room at the end of the hall (room 10) with a view of the courtyard which was just beautiful...

“Peaceful and elegant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

I spent two nights here as part of my honeymoon tour of Italy and I wish we could have stayed longer! The staff are lovely, the building is historically interesting, the gardens are beautiful and the breakfast was excellent. The pool was lovely although a few more umbrellas would be useful for people like me who prefer sitting in the shade! The rooms are spacious and clean but there is no air conditioning which my hisband struggled with (but this certainly wouldn't stop us coming back). I highly recommend the tour and the restaurant, where the food was stunning and, of course, the wine list was excellent. Hopefully we will be back!

“Stepping back in time- beautiful guest house in Chianti”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

This was my first trip to the area and I felt as though I had stepped back in time at this B&B. Beautiful gardens, wonderful staff, clean rooms, and an incredibly breakfast. My room opened up to the courtyard and it was a joy to wake to this view every morning. I had a huge bathroom, lots of closet space and a big comfortable bed. The breakfast offered a selection of local meats, cheese, pastries, fruit with their homemade honey and olive oil. I looked forward to this every morning. There were private corners everywhere to sit and read or meditate and the pool was nice and clean. The restaurant had amazing dishes and a charming staff. I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: #6 was fantastic but I would have opted for #4!

“Style and history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

We stay here two nights during our trip in Tuscany.
Accomodation is very stylish and must say, not for all tastes, but we liked it a lot.
In old monastery, room are clean and nice.
Only downgrade is, that there are no minibars in rooms, pool is not good maintened and pillows are hard as rock!!!
Brakfest is average.
On other hand, restaurant is superb!!! And not so pricy.
All in one. Recomended, but must change some things.
