“A wonderful escape in Tuscany”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2011

We stayed at Moci di Sopra (http://en.monika-carlo-paul.com/) for a week when it was over 35C+ each day. This was a extended family with 12 of us in this wonderfully restored farmhouse. There was plenty of room for the eight adults, two teenagers and two little people. Each bedroom is very spacious with its own facilities, so you never felt like you were imposing on anyone else's space. Given the heat, the pool was just tremendous and the focus of much of our activity, and kept the small people happy. There are two separate areas in which to eat outside and two separate areas to eat inside, so you are spoilt for choice. The kitchen was a paradise for the 'foodies' amongst us and the two dish washers meant there was never any trouble getting someone to wash up after the family meals. Two washing machines meant everyone was happy. There's even an ironing board if you are that way inclined! The place is topped off with a very large living room and flat screen TV, which was never turned on!
We also asked our host Carlo to cook for us on one night. A great meal and a great occasion was had by all. (See a photograph of one of the dishes - beautiful food served beautifully). The meal was well worth the additional cost. Carlo is a great host and his cooking topped off a wonderful night.
But you don't have eat in because there are lots of local options for eating out, including a good four star hotel just up the road in walking distance. Moci di Sopra is hidden away in amongst the hills and is about a 10 minute drive to Gaiole in Chianti, which has a supermarket, bakery and other basic stores. Moci di Sopra is also a great place to base yourself to see the sights of Tuscany. It is not far from either Sienna or Tuscany, though the secret is to get a train from nearby Montevarchi and save yourself the hassle of driving into these major tourist spots.
Overall this was a wonderful place in a beautiful location. For us Aussie who had travelled half-way round the world it was the highlight of a great holiday.

If you have a location on your website for Moci di Sotto comments please feel free to post any part or all of the following. I stayed with a group at Moci di Sotto Sept 25-Oct 2, 2010.

We had a great time in the rustic, comfortable and reasonably priced Moci di Sotto. The location was perfect for excellent wine tasting, dining, town touring and even witnessing L'Eroica bike tour coming through Gaiole. Our holiday was made more enjoyable by the recommendations by our organizer, Carl Stewart, who was right on the mark by sending us to excellent, nearby restaurants like La Badia a Coltibuono (best Vinsanto I've had yet) and Hotel Le Pozze di Lecchi (great food, service and grappa). He also recommended our Tuscan cooking class where we met the most wonderful "Flying Grandmas" of Tutti a Tavola who were so friendly and fun. Moci di Sotto in Gaiole is perfectly located to visit Florence, Sienna or San Gimignano in a day and still return to your villa for a great family style meal. Highly recommended as great value.

Thank you,
