There were few Tripadvisor reviews for this property when I was looking for a 4-day rental for early October 2012 for three 60+ couples. I'm glad I followed my instincts. I would like more English-speaking travelers to know this can be a great fit for them.
My contact was Marianna who happens to be the daughter of one of the owners of four of the five homes (some are duplexes) built four years ago. She is on-site most mornings but lives in Gaiole. She is personable, her English is pretty good, and she was most helpful, tho we were not terribly demanding (mostly questions about how equipment works.)
Finding San Regolo was a little challenging but viamichelin.com was all we needed (and its satellite views of this area are superior to maps.google which is so out of date that it did not show these 4-year-old buildings.) This complex of vacation homes is just down the hill the Ricasoli family's Castello Brolio.
We stayed in Casa Brolio with 3BR/3BA. The BRs and BAs were fine for all of us. The one negative about the house is that the living area (kitchen/DR/family room) has limited furniture. The sofa is pretty small. But we accepted the fact that the whole property is designed to enjoy warm weather out on the patio or down at the pool which we overlooked. Our weather was good so we did that. But we were mainly using it as a base for day-trips to Siena (10 miles south), Monteriggione, San Gimignano, Montepulciano. We had no trouble finding enjoyable dining experiences within 10 miles.
Random thoughts: 1.The location takes an effort to get to either via Siena or Montervachi off the A-1 (really windy roads to contend with getting to Gaiole. We stopped at the Ipercoop in Montevarchi to stock up on breakfast items.) 2.There is a washer and dryer available for use in one of the garages. 3. The road directly in front of the San Regolo complex looks like it could be a back country challenge, but it is in fact an excellent route for going to Siena and Pienza (for dinner.) 4. Wi-fi worked fine after we got our passwords.
The cost to each couple worked out to be about 60 Euros per night, much cheaper than local hotels. And we had lots of elbow room.
