“Rough diamond, but well worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2014

Like many people who stopped in May, this was a travelzoo special all inclusive deal so it was around the £400 mark. The Hotel overlooks the pool, with the dining area and small bar adjacent.

Everything was clean and the staff were friendly, the rooms were comfortable. The location is around 500m from the sea and road train transport ferries guests backwards and forwards on a regular basis, though its a short walk to the beach otherwise, take a towel if you are going to sunbathe on the first bit of beach you get to, the Hotel area is another 750m further down the beach but has recliners and umbrellas.

The food was mostly Italian fare, so don't expect burger and chips, but there was a always a good choice and with free water/wine/beer I always ate well, though the amount of oil on the cooked dishes was a bit much to eat every day though there were always perfectly acceptable alternatives.

Minor gripes would be very small shower area, intermittent hot water, and half day tour consisting of being dropped off and then picked up some hours later, no wireless (though 1 PC in reception), no English speaking channels on TV, and an entertainment team wanting to encourage people to do silly things when they just want to read a book in the sun, but these are all small issues in the face of what is really a place worth visiting and exploring. Wander up the beach a mile or so and you'll see what I mean.

I liked that there was a social area, full of sofas and comfy chairs and a large TV just off from the bar, I liked that soft drinks and wine were free, I hardly took any euros and brought most back, I enjoyed the food and I liked the friendly feel of the place, I went solo and made a few friends whilst there, I liked the fact that there are only local shops and business it made it feel you really were in an unspoiled location. Also the road network is good so car hire should be an easy day out. Also this hotel seemed to put all the solo people together which was a really good idea. Another useful tip if you don't want to be entertained is that there is a more secluded sunbathing area with very comfortable seats down to the left of the stage.

The staff were friendly and helpful, but as others have said, communication was tricky sometimes, but thats really due to us lazy Brits expecting everyone to speak English.

Although the weather was good, it wasn't enough to make the sea warm enough for swimming, but would I go back when it is? Yes, Sardinia is a beautiful place and this is a good base to start to discover it.

Room Tip: Higher Floors have less noise from pool, also balcony area varies in size, no lifts.

From seeing pictures of this hotel online and reading mixed reviews i didnt no what to expect, However when arriving it was so much better than we expected. We were greeted by friendly reception staff and our room was big with good size washroom and a big balcony. I reckon we were put in one of the best rooms in the hotel which was room 344 (Request if you want a big room) Our room overlooked the pool with stunning views and we didnt get disturbed by the entertainment. The entertainment goes onto 11PM latest most nights. Who goes to bed before that sort of time on holiday anyway? Our room was cleaned every day and was immaculate as well as the rest of the hotel which was well maintained and modern. The hotel is a lovely building no sky scraper or tackyness to it. Food was faultless and the restaurant staff were on the ball and were very efficient with clearing plates. The surrounding area was nice with some nice little shops in La Caletta. We visited Posada and took a taxi from the hotel cost us 10 euro each return. Posada has a lovely castle which we went in for 3 euros each and a few shops and cafes. We also went on an excursion to San Teodoro which was so beautiful, with clear water and soft white sand and breath taking views. Defiantly recommend! The pool and beach was clean and tidy and was really relaxing. The entertainment was brilliant! They catered for all ages activities ranging from Bingo, Mini dance, beach volley and Mini games. All the animation were so friendly and made an effort to talk to us and even ate with us one night which was nice. I noticed the tend to make an effort to talk to those who have traveled alone which is lovely and are great with children. All staff are brilliant making an effort to talk english even if its basic. This holiday was a great deal and travel zoo seem to do the best deal with £300 for a week which is brill. Defiantly recommend this place it was such a brilliant holiday and we really enjoyed every minute!

Room Tip: Choice room 344 for a big room!

The food is 8/10, the hotel looks ok - 7/10, the room is kept very clean 9/10.
The beach is amazing 9/10.

What let's it down are the staff. Primarily the entertainments staff. They are intrusive and very annoying. They put on unfunny and incredibly silly entertainment. Their music numbers reminds me of Eurovision. Dancing to rubbish Europop without any sense of irony. They were noisy in the dining room and noisy when everyone around then pool was trying to relax and enjoy peace and quiet. There were very few kids there that week and they should have adapted to that.

Reception staff were a bit unhelpful too.

We paid £400 each for the lower all inclusive deal. Overall fine, but I would have been annoyed if had paid any more.

You are all warned.

This is a lovely cared for and very clean hotel. The food is very good as is the service in the resturant. The entertainment staff are great and very friendly. The receptionists and night porter not very friendly and look and talk to you as if your stupid. There are no ramps anywhere for pushchairs all steps even down to the childrens pool. We got to the hotel to be told our 8 month old baby hadnt got a cot or bed unless we paid extra. We had already paid a hundred pounds so wondered what for as she sits on our knee on the flight and doesnt really eat their food and then she also had no where to sleep! So not baby friendly at all.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the pool if you have children

We arrived at the hotel at 11.30 am only to be told that rooms wouldn't be available until 2pm. The majority of the group were given room keys but we were left waiting in reception until 2 pm.for our key. The allocated room was double, despite booking a twin bedded room. I had the confirmation letter from Citrus travel in my bag but the arrogant lady on reception told us to take up the issue with the travel agent! She then said that we would be downgraded to a twin bedded room. This room was tiny, facing North and claustrophobic. The terrace had a large pillar which obstructed any view . The shower area was very small and the shower curtain clung to your body when showering.
We had requested a quiet room NOT overlooking the pool which, on reading other Trip Advisor comments said that the entertainment area was adjacent to the pool. Yes, our room (allocated by the same lady ) overlooked the pool. We had to endure the loud music most nights!
"Light all-inclusive "meant that soft drinks and coffee could only be obtained from the bars by the pool or lounge. These seemed to have erratic opening hours- not good so we paid a visit to the local supermarket for supplies.
Beach/pool towels cost 2.5 euros. Not refundable when towels were returned.

Some good points of this hotel were: :
Spotlessly clean with friendly staff in dining room and cleaning staff.
Good beach area with white sands and plenty of sun beds.
The food was plentiful with fresh salads, a variety of main courses for lunch and evening meals.

The dining room became very noisy after June 1st and the staff were kept busy trying to ensure that the buffets were kept replenished. Apparently they had another 117 guests .

I must mention that during our stay there were 2 youth football groups with their coaches. These were from Ijax and Juventus. Every one of these young boys were a credit to their clubs- always polite and obviously pleased to be training with their peers.

We came to the conclusion that this hotel is geared up to entertain so avoid it if you want a relaxing, quiet holiday.

Room Tip: Do not accept any room without looking at it. If it is dark, noisy and squashed in a corner refuse it...

This was an excellent holiday and we would have no hesitation in recommending it. From the pick up from Olbia Airport to the return, everything worked like clockwork.

All the staff, Reception, Animation Team, Cleaning, Chefs and Dining Staff, worked really hard and provided an excellent service to their guests.

All of the food throughout the week was beautifully prepared and served and we would rate it 10/10. However, if you require in your diet the likes of hamburgers, nuggets, fish fingers and everything else with chips, then perhaps you would not get the most out of the wonderful food prepared for you.

Our room was in the front of the Hotel. It was large and comfortable with good shower and WC facilities. The balcony was very small and just enough room for standing only but this did not present a problem as there were various seating areas around the complex.

The local people were always friendly and very helpful.

Information:-

There was not any English speaking channels available on the television.

There is not any WiFi set up at the Hotel for guests but we found a bar on the main street in La Caletta that provided a service. However, the Hotel does provide for its guests, a solitary computer, in the reception area.

Beach towels are available from the Hotel at Euros 2.50 each.

There is a bus service but it is not very frequent and we would recommend that you obtain from reception, a bus time table. Tickets have to be bought prior to you boarding the buses and they are available from a bar, sited opposite the bus stop in the main street. The buses do run on time.

We found changing currency from sterling into Euros impossible. We tried banks and a Post Office and finally used our debit card and obtained money from a machine. We would recommend that you change your money into Euros, prior to your trip to Sardinia.

Room Tip: Away from the pool area. This location, I would imagine, could get noisy both by day and evening, d...

Like the other recent reviewers, we travelled on a travelzoo offer and for the price we paid, we were expecting there to be many compromises and inconveniences. We were VERY pleasantly surprised: if you are reading this before travelling: relax, it will be great!

The major inconvenience of our package was the 6:25am departure of our flight from Luton. The airport was surprisingly busy and the transfer from our (nearby) parking in Slip End took an hour. So we almost missed the flight, despite allowing what we thought was ample time.

On arrival at Olbia we were met and greeted with friendly efficiency by Citrus Travel and our transfers were comfortable and direct to our hotel. The arrival at the hotel was superbly organised, we were all quickly noted at the reception desk and invited to sit and relax with a drink while they dealt with the paperwork on our behalf. The animation team ran through some of the amenities and opportunities and before long we were on sun loungers around the pool.

The strength of this hotel in my opinion is the friendly and helpful staff, especially in the dining hall and, as others have said, the animation team, who were by far the best I have ever encountered. They made everyone feel welcome and included without being pushy or intimidating. Many of them seemed to learn a surprising number of names very quickly. Their presence encouraged a friendly relaxed atmosphere, and the guests enjoyed each other's company. Personally I really appreciated the "mini club" for the kids - it was very informal, and fluid, with Valentina simply approaching the children individually and inviting each by name to come and join in the games. Our offspring was never keen on the kids clubs at other resorts, but was delighted to join in here. Parents could join in with the games for the kids too, so it felt very much like the best sort of extended family picnic with adults choosing to join in or chill out with conversation or a book and a drink as they preferred. This was the best children's holiday entertainment we've ever had.

The facilities suited us fine: there were two pools, the main one is big enough to swim in and a small children's pool which was shallow enough for paddling and warmer on the breezy beginning of the season days. Quite a lot of table tennis was played by guests of all ages, and there was beach volleyball on the beach every morning for the over 13s and a tournament of some sort (volleyball, badminton, darts...) every afternoon for the same age group. These activities were run by Francesco, who (perhaps not officially) appeared to be responsible for the smooth running of everything. He had the best language skills of staff I spoke to and was happy to translate on the one or two occasions when something complicated needed to be conveyed. He was also happy to provide hotel sports equipment on request for us to play with.

Our room was ample in size, and very clean and comfortable. The one downside was that all the room doors tended to slam and there were few soft furnishings so this could create some noise.

We loved the food: in heaven the cafeterias will be run by Italians. There was plenty of choice - two pasta dishes, soup, meat, fish, cooked vegetables and at least one dessert, all of which varied every meal. There were also a selection of cold meats and cheeses, and a salad bar with very fresh salad which was more or less the same every day. Though our offspring can be challenging to feed nutritiously in unfamiliar paces, we found it easy here. Don't expect fish-fingers, chips and burgers though: if this is what you need, stay somewhere else! Our one niggle with the food was that it was not very hot. We worked out that this problem was improved by taking from the serving dishes under the heat lamps, but it was often difficult to identify the food in this red light, so a reconnaissance of the serving dishes in the adjacent section is required first.

One of us found the sun loungers around the pool uncomfortable. Staff at reception didn't have very much English, and we had a more or less 100% failure rate in non-standard requests at reception. But had there been anything important, I'm sure we could have found a translator. The servicing of the room was a bit hit and miss, with the shower soap and toilet paper going un-replenished, but it didn't take long to remedy the latter issue. We thought the town of La Caletta was a bit run down in appearance, though the local businesses were friendly and helpful and sold everything we needed.

We enjoyed the road train ride to the hotel's beach area, and had a charming morning on the beach, but were put off doing this until the last day as there were no facilities on the beach.

Overall, this holiday far exceeded our expectations. We have spent far more on less enjoyable holidays, and this was a miraculous bargain. Thank you!
