“More than we could have hoped for!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed at Trulli Il Castagno the 2nd week of September. The property was really well cared for and just had so many loving touches. Giorgio spoke pretty solid English and was very nice and helpful. We took advantage of the breakfast service (3 Euro per person per day) which consisted of pastries and fruit from the property. We also took the cooking class and had 2 dinners at the property with other guests and the family at the property, which were lovely. The pool was clean and refreshing and is where we spent most of our time after a whirlwind week in Rome. The area itself was not touristy at all. Very few people spoke English (and unfortunately we speak almost no Italian) however everyone was very nice and helpful. We went to a Festival near the trulli where we were able to get local food, music, and fireworks. We also went to Mangio Bene - a farm that was part of an agriturisimo group where we got cheeses and meat. There is also a mini mart nearby. Locorotondo had some very large supermarkets, a pharmacy, etc... We also visted Vini Semeraro in Cisternino to do wine tasting and a tour of the wine tasting facility. Unfortunately the last night of our trip landed us in the Valle D'Itria hospital which was about 15 mintues from the property as I had come down with a severely painful bladder infection. Again, no english... but we managed to get my symptoms across and after an antibiotic shot and IV painkiller (free by the way!) I was almost as good as new. I would have no hesitation recommending this property to anyone. If we find a way to make it back to the area I will no doubt book here again. Excellent!

A lovely place in a tranquil, open setting. Beautifully and tastefully restored. Immaculately clean and cozy and well-equipped trullo set in spacious grounds, lots of places to sit, fruit trees, lovely pool shared with swooping swallows. Private outdoor eating area with oven for each of the 4 apartments. Privacy was good. Very friendly, helpful and kind owners who live off-site. A friendly small family of cats represent the owners. We stayed for a week, only because it was booked already for the second week - would have loved both weeks. Well situated for all the local attractions by car. Highly recommended.

We loved our stay in Trulli il Castagno. We stayed for one week because the second week our trullo was already booked. Giorgio is a very nice man. He is very kind and he wants the best for his guests.
His mother Beatrice is a very good cook. We loved eating in the Taverna.
The trulli are beautiful and very clean. The trulli are in a very quiet area and we loved it. The swimmingpool is very nice and also very clean.

We went to see Martina Franca, Alberobello, Locorotondo and the grotte di Castellana.

Stayed for a few nights at Trulli Il Castagno and regret that it was only for a few days. We surely will return for a longer period. Although you certainly need a gps to find the place, once you are there, you never want to leave... Very friendly owners, mama is a wonderful cook - just make sure that you have a lots of empty space to fill- , the place is well maintained... TOP!

You will not regret choosing Trulli il Castagno - the hosts will take good care of you and cater to all your needs. The location is really good. We stayed for 5 nights and visited a lot of memorable Puglia locations: Alberobello, Locorotondo, Matera, Cisternino, Fasano, Trani and Polignano a Mare (both not to be missed), Lecce and many others. Not to mention the amazing Castellana Grotte. A very good base for exploring Puglia for an unforgettable holiday.

A lovely renovated farmhouse collection of trulli converted into 4 units. Not the place for throwing a large party indoors (but heck, you could always use the stone threshing floor outside), but clean, well-appointed and comfortable. The surroundings are immaculately landscaped and include a swimming pool, barbecue area, a large cantina for their cooking classes (not very hands-on, but since you are drinking the home-made wine all through the demonstration, you really shouldn't be a vital part of the preparation). There's complimentary wine, oil and biscotti, all produced by the owners, and if you are there at the right time of year (we were, yay!) all the cherries you can eat out of the orchard out back. It really was fun to stay in a genuine trullo, with genuine and generous puglian hosts. So cool and peaceful to come back to after a hot day traipsing around the exquisite little towns.

We stayed at trull Il Castagno for 4 very enjoyable nights. The trull are very quietly situated in the countryside (you will need a car), but Alberobello, Martina Franca and Locorotondo are nearby, even within cycling distance. The small, quiet roads are ideal for anyone who likes going for a run or a bike ride. By the way, you can borrow mountain bikes, maps and GPS with 3 routes from Il Castagno.
The owners are very friendly and when we arrived there was a bottle of wine waiting for us and home-made taralli, nice touch. The trull Il Ciliegieto where we stayed, was perfect for 2 people. The decor is true to the way many trulli are furnished - don't expect any flashy, fancy decorations, but a homely atmosphere. As it's a trullo, windows are small e. The kitchen is fully equipped (even with home-made olive oil), so people who want to do their own cooking, can do so without any problem. We didn't, as there are so many good restaurants in the area - and one night we joined in with a dinner prepared by Giorgio's mum; what a beautiful evening it was, with lots of home-cooked food and their own wine. It was delicious!
In short, a very enjoyable stay at a place I would happily return to.
