The Giardino is in an excellent position in the Town centre and at the side of the Lake separated only by a road and promenade close to the Ferry point and all the restaurants and bars. The rooms vary in size but ours was spacious with a balcony to sit on overlooking the Lake - excellent! The room was clean and well looked after and the bed was King sized and comfortable. There were no tea/coffee making facilities - a downer when you wake up and have to go down for breakfast for your first drink. By continental breakfast standards the choice was excellent but you have to be a European to appreciate it best. The staff were really attentive and spoke good English and were most helpful. The TV in the room received Sky but was of limited use for English speaking people as the only channel was the BBC World service - who wants news when you are on holiday trying to relax? The Hotel has its own excellent restaurant that serves a good choice of meals and also does cheap pizzas for the locals. It gets very busy at the weekends but it is very large so you will get a seat. Parking is an issue BUT the Hotel provides a free pass to park your car anywhere but be relaxed when seeking a space as one will become available - eventually. Lake Orta is well worth a visit as Orta town is very old and the area is pretty. We have now spent a week in each of Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore and the later is far more interesting and picturesque. Having done the round the Lake trips a few times Arona is by far and away the best for being interesting, quite pretty and well services by tourist needs. However, the UK tour companies tend to use Stresa that is boring and uninteresting but does have more Hotels for the tour companies to use. A pity really. So if you are making your own travel arrangements go to Arona. The main boat trip is to Locarno and one can return by a very picturesque single track train trip and the main line train for around £30 pp. Overall an excellent week very relaxing and good food throughout the holiday. The Lakes are really for Adults rather than children so not family destinations.
