We don't normally do package holidays however this one seemed such a good deal (with First Choice) that we decided to give it a go.
It is a great place to stay if you are interested in seeing all of the sites nearby. It is expensive to eat out in Sorrento so we feal that we saved quite a bit of money by going all inclusive.
The food is ok, beware of the theme nights. I know lots of people love them but we hated queueing up for food and ending up with a random selection on our plate. We got the bus into Sorrento the following week during pizza and pasta night as did quite a few other couples who felt the same way - much better. Drinks are included - which is great, try the cocktails!
The recption staff are fantastic, really helpful. The service at dinner is generally good however the waiters can be very grumpy and surley - less attitude please!
This is advertised as a couples hotel, which is not currently the case. Lots of Italian families with small children and British families with young teenagers, all very well behaved, it has to be said but this did cause a problem at dinner time. Families/groups of 4 or more are seated first. they don't have enough tables for couples and put you on a waiting list to be seated. Steven took our room number and managed the waiting list efficiently, when it was his night off everything fell to pieces with couples queueing out of the door. I understand next year they won't have any more families so it should get better.
The pool wasn't the relaxing place I had anticipated (looks much bigger on the photographs) jam packed with sunloungers which are in rows around the end of the pool. The pool could do with more landscaping so it meets the standard otf the inside of the hotel.
Occhio Marina rooms are much better - upgrade if you can.
Amalfi Coast - we got bus tickets 7E for a 24hr ticket to go to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. Don't do this in high season, it turned out to be the bus trip from hell. Italians don't queue. At sorrento station it wasn't too bad. We had to wait for the third bus to come along before we could get on, and there was a conductor managing the queue.
At Amalfi coming back it was like a riot. People were pushed into the side of the bus, stood on and crushed. Better to do an organised excursion in August - or get the ferry.
I would recommend the hotel as a good value base to see all of the historic sites in the area.
