“a relaxing week”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

My husband and I have just returned from a lovely, relaxing week at the Meropi Hotel and had the holiday that we hoped for. The hotel is an oasis in a mad world, very relaxing and quiet although I did have reservation before our stay especially after reading some of the unkind comments and knowing the reputation that Malia has as a place to rave we found that the hotel was quiet and well away from any madness. Our room was very clean and the food was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. I would suggest that it is a hotel for families as the staff made a fuss of the little ones and is also a relaxing place for the older generation.
The food was really good with plenty of choice and what did impress me was that when the guests had finished eating the staff would then help themselves to their lunch and dinner from the same menu. Thank you Meropi for a lovely holiday.

Great hotel, placed on a very good location..Hotel personnel is very friendly and accomodative...I still don't realize why people complain so much...I spent a few summer holidays in Greece, this was the best so far..I would recommand this hotel to everyone if someone ask to travel in eastern part of Crete...Also every tourist guide warns you before your trip about noise which comes from ''British" street ..I slept very well, no noise was around...Night clubs and bars are very interesting, u can have a lot of fun there even if you are not English...I suggest people to relax and enjoy their holiday instead of looking for some stupid things to complain of...
Greetings from Serbia

I went away with two friends to this hotel.. and as soon as we got there problems started. 57euro's for aircon just for a week just a complete joke on its own. Then the receptionist put us in a '' 4STAR ROOM'' more like a 1 - 2 star, the gaps in between the tiles on the floor were filthy. The shower was horrible.. hole in the wall right next to the toilet, could here the people next door having a shower. finally got moved to the new part of the hotel after 4days! which was nice, but then we had problems with aircon it just didnt work and they didnt refund us are money for it. basically if i could i would of slept on the balcony the room was that hot. the '' all inclusive bar'' was not all inclusive it ouzo, rakki, brandy lager or wine?? ouzo is by far to strong even mixed.. & rakki is horirble? does this sound all inclusive when you have to pay for everything else you want to drink? as soon as u sit down to have something to eat you feel like you should rush the staff are constantly walking past your table to see if your finished and when u r they take your plate straight away like you should leave right there and then. The staff could hardly speak any english, we got speaking to 3 guys who were english everyone else was foreign, we then got accused off having them in are room.. the member of staff on that night barged in are room looking around for them.. no one was there. i thought it was extremely rude as we had just got in.. and after that we had been speakin to the guys they went to there room and realised there phone had gone out of there '' LOCKED ROOM''
Over all its a poor excuse of a hotel. and i would never return. the only friendly staff was one of the ladys on reception who helped us out quite abit.. £ 640 FOR A HOTEL THAT i wouldnt even pay 300 for.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for the new block if you do decide to go.

Going here I felt I was walking into the gates of hell, being as the reviews I read we're awful. However the locations nice, on a quiet part of the strip but 5 minutes from everything. Before staying we asked for the newly renovated rooms. We got them no fuss. It was nice. Spacious and cushy jucazzi bath. I did however see the other rooms. They weren't nice. Tiny and didn't look nice. I'd advice anyone to ask for the refurbished rooms. Two swimming pools to choose from. Food is repetitive and basic. But they are catering for Germans and Dutch not us English so we suffer in the food front. If you have the cash, eat out. And the point I feel strongest on is the word 'all inclusive' to me this means anything an eveything. Not the case, half pint of beer, wine, sambucca and brandy. So overall I enjoyed it. My tip for us English is to try be on our best behaviour, try not to tread on toes or it can be a bad holiday

When we got here we were met by very friendly staff and shown to our rooms. The rooms were pretty basic but my friends stayed in other hotels and as far as i could see ours were better than theres. We had to pay 50 euro for aircon, however this was the same in all hotels. We went all inclusive which was the only bad part of this hotel. The manager in charge of the restaurant had so many stupid rules. You couldnt have a pint glass for your drink, you could only have one glass at a time, you had to leave your table when you finished your food and sit at a different bar table and you cant walk through the restaurant at non meal times. The all inclusive wasnt exactly all inclusive either. there was a limited supply of average food and the drink was limited to wine, rakki, ouzo and beer.

The swimming pools in this hotel were amazing, there are 3 large ones all of different depths. There are no rules about bringing friends around like in some of the other hotels and the reception staff are really friendly. There are very little young people here. I would say its a good place to stay but dont go all inclusive, its really not worth an exxtra £20.

Room Tip: if your from the uk you will automatically be placed in the older part of the hotel. you cant choose

Dear Sir,

thank you for your review which is very objective, and i really thank you for this.
I have some comments on all points mentioned.
As far as the glasses in the bar are concerned,we prefer that our guests use the plastic ones, when used around the pool. This is to prevent accidents,as a glass can easily break, and anybody could step on it.
It is not allowed to walk in the restaurant during the not working hours ,as the staff are moping and cleaning at the time.
We do have rules for the visitors that are not guests of the hotel especially the ones that are accomodated in rooms without registration, which is illegal. But in your case ,inviting a friend to spend a couple of hours by the pool with you, was not a problem at all.We are pretty fexible on this matters, and we try our best in order to make our guests feel comfortable.
Besides you were one of the best groups stayed in Meropi in 2012 ,so we wouldn't refuse you that one.
I wish you all the best and i really hope to welcome you again as guests in our hotel.

To start, we got there and the staff were automatically rude to us, they showed us to our room which consisted of the beds and a bathroom. Our sheets were changed once when we were there, we rarely had clean towels, the cleaner would walk in and out with her children.... the inclusive is apalling, you have the choice of beer wine ouzi or raki and the food was disgusting. everyday would be the same things to choose from and it was cold and bland all the time. The waiting staff would tell us to move before we'd all finished eating just to fit more people in. There is no point in the air conditioning, all it does is drip on the bed sheets (which you'd get a fine for) and then blow out warm air for about 10 minutes. kids would run around naked all day and wee in the pool and no one said anything but as soon as we did something wrong we'd get told off or fined... they try to fine you over anything, our sheets got dirty and got fined over 100 euros and told us they would kick us out if we didnt pay it in a certain time. The manager comes across as nice at first but it dont take long for him to turn into a rude pr**k. seriously if you want to go to this hotel youve got something wrong with you.

Room Tip: go to the newer part

Dear Guest,

thank you for your review .I know your case and who you are since upon check out you threatened us with a bad review .This is not something new to us as you can see that all the bad reviews come from English groups even if we have Dutch , Polish,Czechs,Russians,Australians,French,Greeks,Belgians,Italians and Israelis as guests. It seems that this has become a revenge weapon towards us from young guests that simpy have been told to behave .
Any ways you got fined for the bed linen because you painted yourself with some kind of colour crayons ,that they won't come off by washing, and slept on the sheets without showering first. You told us that you would take them to the automatic laundry service down town to wash them yourselves in order to skip the fine and although we responced ,please do so,you never did.Your rep from the travelagency was informed accordingly, and when he visited your room in order to see you about this ,he couldn't believe his eyes.He couldn't actually see your room because rubish ,clothes shoes in a pile were lying all over the room. The poor chambermaid spent almost an hour in each room just to make it.
As far as the A/C is concerned, you should have told us that it was dripping so we would fix it.This is a very common damage as far as an A/C is concerned.
As far as the food is concerned,i have noticed that it has to do with the nutrition habits of the guests.Young english guests find it disgusting and all the rest give their compliments to the chef. Nevertheless i have to admit that you and your friends were one of the best groups we ever accomodated in Meropi, because you all were kind and joyful, and the only problem that actually occured was the one with the bedlinen.
I wish you all the best

first of all we got there and the rude woman put us in the old block of rooms which were disgusting and were not the 4 star rooms we paid for. To top it off we had to pay for air con which never got refunded. After complaining they decided after 4 days to move us out of the pathetic excuse of 4 star room and put us in the room that we had paid for. The rooms was very nice except for the fact that the air con didn't work properly, so we had paid 50 euros for air con that didn't work. The food was average but we felt like we were being watched by the staff, as soon as we put out knife and fork down they were straight to your table taking your plate away. Sometimes we weren't even finished. Going for an all inclusive we thought that everything was free drink wise. we got to the bar and there were 2 separate menus one for the all inclusive and one for self catering. The all inclusive visitors had a very wide variety of drinks.....NOT!!! we had the choice of raki, ouzo, brandy, beer or wine. Anything else you had to pay for, to me that isn't an all inclusive. The staff were very rude and hardly spoke english and we were the only english people there except for 3 guys we got speaking to. we got in one night and the owner went mad thinking that we had guys in the room he came barging in checking all the rooms and he found no one. Also if your going here make sure everything is in the safe because we know that the man who owns the hotel stole a phone from some people's room that we knew!! never go to the meropi hotel if you are young or english!!!!

Room Tip: dont choose one in the first place you will be very unsatisfied!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK,now we are accused that we steal the cell phones of our customers.
That's a new one!
My dear guest,i suggest in the future you are more carefull with such reviews released in public, because other hotels who will receive you as a guest in the future, may not show this great tolerance with such accusations as we do.
From our side we declare that these accusations are ridiculous and this ridiculousness affects the gravity of your review.
