Great place to stay in, Although it was a year ago from writing this things may have changed, But looking at reviews now and thought I would write one! We first got there and it was a bit of hassle, Took an hour or two for the receptionist to sort out or rooms as another bunch of girls arrived at the same time too. There were 9 of us, So we had 2 rooms right next to eachother, but the otherone was on the other side of the hotel. The receptionist wasn't too pleasent but was nice if you got on the right side of her!
Location is PERFECT! Literally a 5 minute walk from the strip of clubs/bars, 5 minute walk from a half-decent supermarket, and about 10 minute from the beach, maybe a bit more to get to Bikini beach etc. Well worth the stay, us girls did mess around alot and make a bit of noise but they didnt complain! Had to pay a 50 euro deposit on arrival, got back okay though. Had to spend whole of last day cleaning sheets ourselfs as we had make up and all sorts over them! And heard the other bunch of girls got fined for ruining their room! So as long as you dont break anything your fine! Rooms were nice, although our sink leaked, so our bathroom floor was constantly flooded, so had to lay down all our nice clean towels to stop us slipping over! Pool is nice, well worth the stay and not bad price. Just great location!! Deffo for young people in groups, a good laugh.

What can you say about Malia? The beach is pretty, the strip, funny and varied with bars/clubs to suit all tastes. The hotel is excellent for what it is, a resort hotel, the staff are brilliant and cannot be praised enough! The pool is pretty and the breakfast is really tasty!! Plus you are just down the road from the tasty resturant "The Brassiere".
If you are after some sun and fun Malia is a good a place as any and the Philoxenia is a well above average 'resort' hotel. I'd stay there again.

Arrived in the middle of the night, again a 50 euro deposit to pay on arrival, but the receptionist was lovely and saw we were a nice couple and said quietly to come back tommorow and she would give it back.

all the staff were helpful and friendly. The room was average, quiet clean, but twin beds which is crap if your a couple and did request a double. We pushed them together ad the cleaners never parted them, the room was swept daily and rubbish removed. Bed weren't changed that often and the sheets had stains on them. The wall were really thin and we could hear word for word our neighbours actions even toilet habits!

Malia was cheap and cheerful, Zoo bar was brillent and the hotel was a minutes walk from all the night life and MacDonalds.

MALIA = awesome!

Philoxenia.. on arrival looks gorgeous, and also a free shot on arrival always helps lol .. the room we were in was very nice, all modern.. but only problem was our balcony, was basically on the basement floor and our balcony was like a bath tub,
also when the music came on at 9 in the mornin, it was impossible to sleep.
Also there are cameras all around the hotel and you do feel a little as though its like a prison.. and if u so much put your music louder than 20volume, you are guaranteed someone shoutin at you at your door.
The surrounds of the hotel are gorgeous, the hotel is nice, the pool is always clean and the people and the atmosphere is very welcoming!
malia is absolutly awesome it is the best place for night life i have ever been..

overall i enjoyed my holiday in malia so much and once you get used to the hotel its great, as you need 2 get used 2 all the rules that they give u, as you arnt allowed to bring any food or drink to the pool that was not purchased in the hotel, and there is a rule book for things that you break in your hotel room, from the wardrobe nobs to the picture frames..

Overall i would say i loved malia though for the nightlife..
a word of warning tho.. dont go down to the beach alone on a night as there are many people down there waiting to rob you.

have funnnnnnnnn x

My husband & I were recommended to go to this place. We told our travel agent that we had been to the Maldives and on 3 cruises. we wanted a quiet beach holiday with pretty surroundings................oh my goodness why were we sent to Malia??
If you like to be kept awake until around 5am, want to step over the vomit and smashed bottles in the street the following day, have filthy accommodation, be ripped off with prices, then this is just the place for you. If I never have another holiday again then that will be just fine as long as I don't ever have to go back to Malia. Crete was beautiful and the staff in the hotels cringed when we told them were we were staying. They all told us that if you want to go on the lookout for drugs, booze and easy sex then this was the place to be.
I am no prude but I really don't want to have to listen to foul mouthed yobs whilst I eat a meal in a restaurant bragging about their previos nights conquests
If you take my advice you will give this dive a miss and leave it to the people who deserve it!!

Just returned from a very nice break in Malia staying at the Philoxenia.
Plus points are location, close enough to the strip is that's what floats yer boat but far enough away if like us you are not into nightlife too much.
The hotel has a nice pool area but don't buy your drinks at the bar unless u are not worried about prices, 4 euro for a draught Мythos (average price elsewhere we found was 2.50) and a scandalous 3.50for a 500ml bottle of Coke. The owners really miss a trick here as we went to the Stonewell next door but one nearly everyday for breakfast or an afternoon pint, as did a fair few residents from Philoxania!
The rooms could only be descibed as basic, shower is rubbish, there was no water twice and it was filthy, only being cleaned twice in the entire two week holiday. Some girls we were close to by the pool mentioned that when they arrived one towel had BLOOD on it and the bed had black hairs in it - eew!
All in all we only paid £200 each on a late deal and we only used the hotel for sleep and showers. If you're looking for a nice chic hotel for a special holiday, I'd look elsewhere to be honest.
If you're a 20 something wanting to be close to the action and don't care about luxury then go for it!

Had read some bad reviews about this hotel but we were pleasently surprised. me and 3 other girls went for a week and loved it. The management and staff were all really friendly and chatty aslong as you treated the place with respect. Pool area, pool itself and bar were all well staffed and really clean. Room itself was a little bit basic (we went self catered and the faciities werent amazing) but we found that they were more than suitable for a girls holiday to Malia,as we ate out most nights. Best bit about this hotel is the location, its perfect for young people who go to malia for the night life, less than 2 mins from the main strip and 5 mins from the beach!

  • Liked — location and staff
  • Disliked — room was quite basic - but still suitable!
