O.M.G. !!! Having read previous reviews I booked a hol here mixed with a dream for my 60th birthday to be a peaceful happy day somewhere 'foreign'. (am disabled & holidays usually nightmare for me!) MY DREAM CAME TRUE IN SPADES!!!! everything written about this place is true AND MORE! Koula and her staff, particularly the wonderful Mandy, made my birthday holiday not only a lovely week & a lovely holiday, but one I will cherish forever as THE best holiday I have ever had! (and I have had a few in my 60 yrs believe me) We (my friend/carer & I ) booked self catering as I have massive dietary conditions, not a problem here, the food is not only restaurant quality, but TOP CLASS restaurant quality!! nothing was too much trouble! they changed our apartment to a more disabled accessible one, changed menu requirements to suite, let us sit in the less formal open log fire 'family' area rather then the formal dining area which gave a fantastic warm cosy feel to dinner (april weather not brill, even in greece) recommended places to visit, organised a discounted car hire, TO THE DOOR! and in all, turned my wish for my 60th birthday, a pleasant break away, into a cherished memory I will never forget! and not just for me, the whole guest quota that week, people from all over the world, ranging from young to old, of all social spectrums, became within hours of arriving, part of the 'Koula family'.... & were treated as if lifelong friends! I wanted to marry Koula, despite george her husbands protestations!!!! ha ha. Reader, this place is a gem! a real bona fida gem, it is not close to the sea, set up the hill from malia proper, the road to & from it was described by koula on the first day as 'being repaired in G.M.S. time, (greek maybe somethime) as it is pretty rough, but the appartments are lovely, all different shapes & sizes despite encapsulated in a standard looking block, with great views over the sea or gardens & a magnificent backdrop of mountains behind that give a truly inspirational uplifting feel to the place. I think Koula though is the real magic in the place, her hospitality & charisma shine out for all to see & share in... making a break here... truly magical.... a 'shangri-lah' in the hills, & one to be visited to be believed! Well Done to all there, for impressing a well traveled long in the tooth visitor to what is sadly missing from a lot of destinations nowadays, the 'friendly' touch.
(check out the photos taken on friend Mary`s camera.) see you again soon I hope Koula!
