“What a view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

We stayed for 4 nights in the 'Vintage' room of Le Clos du Lac in August. It was more expensive than we would normally have paid for a B&B, but we now realise that you get what you pay for! The room was excellent - clean, a quality finish, lovely decor with small touches that made all the difference (sweets in the container on the coffee table, perfect coffee machine, etc.). However, it was the view and balcony that made all the difference. It provided an absolutely picture perfect view of Lake Annecy from a covered balcony with comfortable chairs. We just loved this place and are determined to return. Unfortunately we can't comment on the breakfasts - I'm afraid that we were too busy sitting on our balcony drinking the espresso from the coffee machine and eating our own pain au chocolat!

Room Tip: All the rooms had the same view, but the small amount extra that you pay for one of the upper rooms...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The owner, Isabelle, is delightful and very easy to work with via email. You need a car to stay here. Because we don't drive stick shift, we rented a car in Lyon. From what I could tell, automatic transmissions are not available for rental cars in Annecy. On the positive side, because a car is necessary, we were surrounded by mostly folks from France that come to the area, rather than the hoards of tourists that come to Annecy by train. We went swimming in the lake at one of the spots in Veyrier du Lac and we were the only English speakers out of about 100 people. Annecy can be crowded with tourists and it was nice to stay elsewhere where it was a bit more relaxed. A car also make it easier to visit the other towns around the lake. We had heard that traffic around the lake can be difficult, but having lived in LA and NYC, the traffic was a minor inconvenience that at busy times maybe caused an extra 10 minutes to get to Annecy. The rooms here are spacious and well decorated and the view is outstanding.

Our room was beautiful , modern ,well appointed. the hostess sweet and efficient ,our breakfast was made with high quality ingredients ,a delicious cake made with chestnut , a wonderful rustic ham, local cheese, homemade yogurt, fresh warm bread, honey, jam and a coffee french press. The view from our terrace was breathtaking , very calm and the nespresso a sublime touch of hospitality. Quiet and charming this place is an oasis for a retreat - perfect for a couple or a little family in search of nature & comfort - very close to Annecy and Talloires ,Verrier du lac is the perfect place without the crowd. To our American compatriots - this place is so much more appealing than the popular tourist locations in the heart of French Alps. We ended up here by accident - if only all accidents turned out so phenomenally!

My husband & I stayed here last week and were very happy with our choice. Very clean, great accommodations, beautifully decorated & gorgeous views. I have respiratory issues but had no problem going up 3 short flights to top for Riva suite. Other rooms are one floor down I believe. Would highly recommend. You will not be disappointed. Thank you, Isabel!

Room Tip: Riva had great view.

Okay we weren't certain if we should stay in Annecy itself or not and were so glad we chose to stay here. We had a car so parking was easy rather than worrying about paying for it staying in the town. Having said that we did work out it was easy to drive down toward Annecy park and walk along the waterfront into the town. Our initital introduction was a challenge arriving in the night and signage thru Annecy was not great. Even finding the B&B was frustrating at the time and we should have been better prepared but in retrospect once we got ourselves orientated it was not hard and it was worth it. The view from our room (Asia) was spectacular. To be able to sit on the terrace with a Nespresso coffee or tea was just magic. Plenty to see and do and so handy to Annecy and the rest of the region (including a day trip to Chamonix & Mont Blanc). Lots of places to eat along the lake and wander. The town of Annecy was really delightful as well (after getting lost driving thru it on our arrival it had a lot of bad feelings to overcome and certainly did!!). Host is lovely and rooms are super clean, quite modern. Bathroom is great and tea/coffee facilites were most welcome to us. Wi-fi could be a bit hit and miss at times but generally was good.

Prices are high when you add delicious breakfast, but really worth it.The room we used was spotless, spacious, extremely well decorated, with attention to detail.Being over 60, I always enjoy comfortable beds and lovely bathrooms. The view over the lake is outstanding. We will return.Congratulations to the owner who clearly loves the job!

Room Tip: Staying on the top floor is better as you're away from the breakfast room.

The location of this guest house is fantastic. We stayed in the vintage room which is decorated and designed beautifully, from waking up with panoramic views of the lake, to showering with a view of the sunset out of a well placed window. Defiantly recommend this place, and will be returning.
