We are both retired requiring a ski resort for all skill levels, though we have skied for many years. The hotel we chose, Hotel Belles Pistes, turned out to be the perfect choice. Next to the main ski lifts, it is clean, comfortable, serves good food and very friendly service. We made friends with other guests, many of whom have stayed at Belles Pistes for a number of years. We have booked again for March 2010.

We stayed with our young daughter and thourougly enjoyed our stay...the snow drifted down nocturnally and the lights from the beginners slope, just in front, cast shadowy silouhettes upon the terrace each night...great nosh, and a warm cosy bar ensured a great relaxing stay...we'll be back!!!! especially for the wonderful vegetarian fayre and post ski banter in the bar!!!

This place was a disappointment from start to finish. Unfortunately the weather over the weekend we skied in Les Carroz was dreadful so we spent a lot of time at Hotel Belles Pistes. However the heating was turned off during the day so we would either huddle near gas fire or take turns taking hot baths. The walls are paper thin and I though two workmen had come into my room while I was sitting in the tub. Another member of our group was subject to the constant conversation of a neighboring guests talking about their personal toileting activities. Headphones and an MP3 player were the only salvation from these unwelcome conversations.

The food was satisfactory on a couple of nights but very “English” in the worst sense. The “roast” was overcooked and sliced paper thin with a sauce obviously out of a package. Breakfasts were stingy as was the complementary wine with dinner.

The owner and staff are quite oblivious to France’s gastronomic traditions. This is not surprising as not a single member of staff could speak French (grunting was the usual means of communication). Most of the staff looked like they had slept in their cloths and had just rolled out of bed for their obligatory duties – before then hanging out in the guest lounge and listening to Nirvana at 9:30 in the morning.

This place is really not much more than an over-priced youth hostel.

We had a good stay here for a week. The location of the hotel for skiing is perfect.Right on the nursery slopes and within a few mins of the cable cars to the top of the mountains. The evening meals were good and tasty, with a good atmosphere in the restaurant. This is a friendly down to earth hotel. The rooms are clean and the bar area was very welcoming, the tea and cakes layed on in the afternoon was a welcome bonus.....so too is the free wine with the evening meal. All in all a very pleasant and friendly place to stay.

  • Liked — Location and friendly down to earth atmosphere in the hotel
  • Disliked — A lack of bread with the evening meals

This was our first skiing holiday and we wanted somewhere with lots of snow which was very pretty. Les Carroz lived up to our expectations. We choose to go for the New Year Celebrations probably the busiest time. We took my 2 children 11 and 13 years who thoroughly enjoyed it. The Hotel was very clean and comfortable and set in the most beautiful pituresque village. The location of the hotel is at the top of the nursery slope and a short walk from the telecabin up to the top of the mountain with lots of blue, green, red and black slopes so it couldn't be better.

We really enjoyed our stay and the staff were very nice and friendly, we were really well looked after. Even our difficult dietry requirements were catered for without any problem. The food in the hotel is very reasonably priced for a very expensive resort and the family atmosphere was nice and relaxing.

Everything from ski/boot hire and ski lessons can be recommended by the hotel. I had private skiing lessons and my daughter had snowboarding lessons. we both had great teachers and progressed quickly. I would definitely recommend booking ski hire and lessons in advance the price isn't effected but you save time and hassel on arrival.

We all agreed best holiday ever!! Would not hesitate to go back to this hotel again.

We chose this hotel because we were on a budget and wanted a ski resort near to Geneva airport. We'd been skiing in North America and had flown into Heathrow and straight out again to Geneva so needed to be able to get to the hotel quickly and rest before the jet lag wiped us out.

They allowed us to book for the five nights we wanted to stay (most places would only allow a full weeks booking) but this we feel should have made us suspicous. (For reference the hotel was recommended in a skiing guide book - we have no idea why!) They also didn't charge for parking - again we should have been suspicious!!

(For reference the cost for 5 nights D,B&B was about £550 so not cheap!)

The hotel claims to be 3 star but it can't be. We stayed in a three star B&B later in the trip in Val D'Isere called Le Sorbier which was spectacular - the Belles Piste was not disimilar to a youth hostel.

We arrived after dinner when everywhere was shut in the village but were not offered any food. The hotel's reception is up about 15 steps and no one offered to help us carry our bags. There was no lift. The room was extremely basic but clean. The hotel had radiators but they didn't work during the day. (We weren't the only guests to comment on this.)

Breakfast (which according to the tariff on the back of our bedroom door was worth 9 euros) consisted of one croissant each (not a nice one at that), a chunk of a baguette and some cheap orange juice (you were given one glass and had to ask for more!) Eggs were available for a supplement. Dinner was basic and there was no choice - I have no idea what you would do if you were vegetarian.

All of the above combined with the fact that Flaine and Les Carroz aren't particularly nice ski areas (rubbish lifts and lots and lots of day skiers from local towns) meant we checked out early - after 2 nights. (We would have gone after one but the B&B in Val D'Isere couldn't take us until the second night - see the Les Sorbiers review.) Needless to say they insisted on charging us for the full booking (on the grounds that had we arrived and they had been full they would have had to pay to put us up in a 3* hotel...if only!!!)

I think what we found particularly disappointing about the Belles PIstes is that it is owned and run by an English family and we expected better.

I would not recommend anyone go to this hotel.
