“Charming in many ways but too flawed for us”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

We probably had our expectations set too high as it is very expensive compared with UK hotels. Some charming features including a lovely dining area under the trees and a decent kids play area and plenty nice kids for ours to join in some play with. Most of the staff were very nice too. However, it didn't suit us otherwise at all - no choice of menu and rigid/ fixed eating times. The hotel pool is next to a noisy and busy main road. We were given a truly horrible stuffy, small attic room which had been booked as a junior suite.....and we had to make a massive fuss to move ... and the owners made it very clear they weren't happy to have done that. So.... overall.... a roadside 3 star hotel charging 5 star prices. Not for us - others seemed happy - we just felt we could have spent our money and precious holiday time better elsewhere.

Room Tip: Avoid the attic floor unless you get the end room with the gable window.

We stayed for a few days at Mas des Gres in September whilst visiting the region. On the positive side, the food is sensational and even though it is a fixed menu, with notice, Thierry will look after your every need. Our room was delightfull but it had two twin beds pushed together rather than a double which was a disappointment and couldn't be changed as the hotel was completely full. The only real downside is that if the weather isn't great then there isn't really any public / sitting space for having a drink or just hanging out(if the weather is good then there is plenty of room outside). I would definitely go back just for the food.

What a perfect family trip! There were 8 of us, 3 generations of family, and there could be no better venue. The cozy accomodations, which were very modern with very clean bathrooms, the excellent cuisine of Provence by chef Thierry, and the warm professional service by Nina and all the staff--these are to say the least. Dining each morning and dinner under the huge shade trees with our kids running/playing during dinnertime with other visiting kids was complete relaxation and FUN. We loved the attention to detail, and loved more the very kind staff that was not overbearing. It was the most relaxing place, with top notch food included. This was a dream place in Provence. And perfect location near some wonderful villages and sites. Paradise found.

My wife and I reached Le Mas des Gres after a long day of driving, and after getting lost at night in Provence's maze of country roads, and we arrived just as dinner was being served in the hotel's pretty little dining room. Tired and frazzled, we threw our luggage in our room, trudged downstairs and proceeded to have one of the best meals of our lives, which included a pumpkin soup that was so good and so comforting that the day's tensions evaporated then and there. It would set a standard for the rest of our stay there: Impeccable.
The place is run by Nina and Thierry - Nina manages the place and Thierry cooks - and better and more discerning hosts cannot be imagined. When my wife spilled some diesel gas on her coat, Nina took the coat to a laundry in a nearby town, paid the bill and arranged for its pick-up. Again, this was typical of the service. As for the hotel itself, the grounds are well-kept, the interiors are spotless and handsomely decorated in the typical Provencal style and the rooms are comfortable and clean. The big buffet-style breakfasts are all one could ask for and the dinners, while not included in the room price, are worth the extra cost. Thierry is an inspired cook.
In short, we had no complaints, only a series of happy surprises. Our one disappointment? Because we were driving and had to catch a flight from Rome, we had to cut our stay at Le Mas des Gres short because of striking French unions and the concern of running out of gas. We would have happily stayed longer, much longer.

We booked a cycling holiday for our 25th wedding anniversary - something we never thought we would enjoy but great for sightseeing and exercise. Just so happened that the night of our anniversary we were booked in to Le Mas Des Gres - and we couldn't have planned anything more special. So well looked after and what great food and hospitality. I am hoping that we will be back for our 30th -

we first went to Mas des Gres in July 09 and planned to stay only a night or two on our way down to the coast as we had just got engaged in Paris and wanted to explore the southern coast , but when we got to Mas des Gres we decided to stay here for our whole holiday!!!!!
Nina and Thierry are wonderful hosts and when the hotel was booked out for our last couple of nights they got us a room with friends Pierre and Magda who have a newly renovated room to let out at there home which was just wonderful and worth staying at too
Thierry is the chef and the food is just out of this world. Both my Fiance and I tried things we would never normally eat and were not disappointed by any of it
Breakfast and dinner are served outside most of the time which is a lovely shaded area
The wine list is worth a mention as we never had a bad wine either
Nina is a great hostess and extremely helpful and they both go out of their way to help their guests
All the rooms are of good size (we've seen them all), very comfortable and air conditioned and they have a character to them without being too fancy
The pool is a good size and plenty of seats and loungers for guests to top up their tans
The hotel is within easy reach of tons of great places to visit such as Gordes, Abbey De Senanque (a must for the lavender fields) and Isle sur la sorgue( a lovely Market town with nice shops and cafes and a beautiful church at its heart
and its within easy reach of avignon, nimes and marseilles for traveling in
We loved this place so much half way through our trip we asked Thierry and Nina if it would be possible for us to actually marry on the grounds and they were more than willing to and have been very helpful with pointing us to the right people localy for everything we need for our wedding
our wedding will be the 3rd time in a year that we have stayed here ,I think that says it all!

We wanted a small, out of the way place, which was relaxing, not stressed with kids and served great food.

Nina and Thierry and their staff delivered this.

Decent sized room (9), adequate for our needs, not spectacular but more than adequate.

Everything else was in a league of its own. Fantastic feeel about the place, really relaxed and welcoming. Nothing is too much effort. Without exception the staff were amazing.

From the owners, who speak fluent English, French, German, to the waitresses, gardener and cleaners everything was very welcoming.

The food was amazing. The breakfast was very laid back and substantial, no real strict times, exactly what you want when on holiday.

The evening meals were the highlight. Served up in the outdoors they were all stunning meals (we stayed for 5 nights).

You must stay at this place, if you are a couple or taking the family.

Cannot wait to go back
