“Handmade!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Once you get round the fact that this is hewn from solid rock by hand you realise what you are looking at is an astonishing feat. No laser levels, no jack hammers. Just a large number of monks chipping away at the rock for a hundred yesr and you have an astonishing achievment. It beggars belief what the complete church must have looked like, but wars and erosion have taken their toll. The entrance fee is well worth paying.

“unbelievable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

Taken here by friends who had visited it before. Worth the entrance fee. A church hollowed out of the rock but with galleries and stairs. Amazing

“Subterranean church”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

You step through a hole in a rock face and you are in a vast underground church that has been cut into the rock. The vast size is amazing and the church is still used and is a popular wedding venue. Worth a visit when in the area.

“Stunning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

This is truly the most amazing structure and one of the most important sites of its kind in the world. this is not really a monolith but is a subterranean structure cut into the limestone under what was the local chateau 900 years ago. Its dimensions are amazing with a height of around 60 feet.Words cannot do justice to this amazing structure so I just ask you please to visit,

“Monolithic Church Aubeterre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

We have visited this church a number of times as the village is very nearby. The best time was when there was a flower festival held in the church.
