“Great property, poor service!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Let me start my review with the positive:
The booking system of the hotel works very good, we had to change our reservation and it was not a problem. The cleaning staff of the hotel is very friendly and efficient (seems like the upper scale employees can learn a thing or two from them about client relation). The property is beautiful and the spa is complete.
Now the downside:
The hotel is a bit cold for my taste, especially if you are with a small child, and the temperature in the room cannot be adjusted by you, it is automatically set. If you have booked bed and breakfast forget about getting a nice food in one of the two restaurant out of which only one is operating for the guests of the hotel, the other one is a party place for locals, so you end up hungry or you have to go in town for food (Sandanski from our experience doesn't really have good restaurants, they are mostly barbeque places or fast food). The restaurants favor the local guests over the hotel guests, one night we were told by the restaurant manager that we cannot be at the balkan restaurant because they have a private party, and we just needed some warm soup for our little one which is the only thing he could eat there. After a long discusion we were aloud to have a corner table in a cold environment, but our little one didn't want to eat anyway because of the loud local music that was playing and the big crowd in the restaurant. The restaurant manager is quite unfriendly person, and she was even giving us the look as we were guilty for only ordering soup! Next evening we decided to skip the "local party" of their restaurant and we ordered room service which was even a worse experience. Limited choice and the Cesar salad was made of cold left over grilled chicken meat, it looked like something people left in their plate and it was served to us, no salad dressing and only some green leafs. Next day we decided to cut our trip short, and at least the girl in reception was professional enough not to charge us for the whole 5 nights we booked. On top of our bad hotel experience, we were also attacked by local criminals who blocked our car in town and watched us from the local bar while we were trying to get out with our crying baby. After moving the garbage bin in order to get out, this people came out laughing at us and cursing us, and slamming the door to our car. Needless to say we will never be coming back to this place nor we recomend it! As a family we didn't feel safe in Sandanski!

We booked a spa week at the Pirin Park hotel via a travel agency in Israel and arrived directly there after a 2 1/2 hr transfer from Sofia.
The good news: The hotel is in good condition, modern and well maintained and landscaped.
The spa is outstanding with treatment rooms, sauna's,huge indoor heated pool, jacuzzio's.hot tubs etc.All of first class quality.
The 1 bedroom "VIP" appartment we booked was also great - spacious, clean, with 2 bathrooms and 2 TV's.
The spa offers a huge plethora of body and facial treatments and there is a hair salon as well.
The half board we booked included dinner at one of the 2 restaurants in the hotel - The Mediterranean Restaurant which offerred a decent buffet with salads, meats, soups etc - not gourmet food but certainly satisfactory.

The not do good news:
we had booked a package with 3 treatments per day - unfortunately when we arrived we were informed that the treatments in our package are specific - 1 20' classic massage,a 10 min treatment such as light therapy and use of the baths.
We were under the impression that we have our choice of any 3 treatments per adult per day.
Following a long and unpleasant discourse with the spa representatives and marketing manager
we requested that they credit us with the "package"we had booked and we would book whatever treatments we wanted at extra cost ofcourse.
Nothing doing, not even when they connected us to the local bulgarian travel agent could we get a suitable solution.
Eventually we gave up,booked whatever treatments we wanted and paid the difference.
In general the Bulgarian service industry is still in it's infancy and they have yet to learn the art of the friendly smile when addressing a tourist arriving to your faciltiy for the first time.

This was true for the front desk, the bell boys, the waiters in the restaurants and bars, the staff at the spa\s.
For some reason the room cleaners did have a cheerful persona and were efficient and friendly.
All in all Pirin Park Hotel is a good first class hotel with fantastic facilities, now if only they would learn to smile :-)

Besides the generally unhelpful service, we were surprised on our second day of stay that we have no access to the sauna and steam baths, were told it was not included in our cost - of 140 euro per night! As you might guess, this was our last visit there...would not recommend it to anybody.

The spa is great, the restaurants offer really delicious food and the room is very good. A great place for having a rest and pretty nearby to local sightseeing of one is curious to see them.
While my wife and I visited it for rather rest on our own, the hotel seemed great place to have a family vacation as well

I was there two weeks ago. This hotel is best in Sandanski, and although I was there for a whole weekend, i did not even get out from the hotel to see the city of Sandanski, due to the excellent spa in this hotel. You can enjoy in thermal pool outside and inside, and in sauna park also. massages are not expensive , c ca.110 Eur for a couple. I would recommend this hotel for everyone that want to escape on spa weekend in excellent hotel.

We had never gone to Sandanski before and had some concerns about finding the hotel but this turned out to be no problem at all. We were able to find it very easily and were pleased with everything the hotel offered - wonderful rooms, SPA and swimming pool. The hotel staff were very nice and proffessional and really made our stay an excellent experience!

Three consecutive years I have spent some days in this hotel and I again could not find a reason why not to go again. May be the best spa hotel in Bulgaria.
Breakfast is great.
Pools fantastic.
Spa center - could not be better, just to be included in all packages.
Room - clean and big.
