“perfect place to relax with family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2012

We enjoyed staying at the apart hotel over Easter vacations. We loved the morning breakfast buffet, appreciated the spacious appartement where we fit with our three children, and after skiing we profited from the super equipped wellness (finish sauna, steam bath, bio sauna, laconium, rest area etc). The staff was very welcoming and helpful, speaking good English and providing assistance whenever asked.
The place is quite well located, with the shops and restaurants nearby for those who prefer the small town atmosphere and at the same time you are few hundred meters from the river walk which can be used for pedestrians, but also bikes and rollerskates.
We definitely would love to come back.

Very good stay at the Strasser Backerei. Delicious breakfast!
Very nice room, spacious, good bed and bathroom. The healthfloor was also very liked by my friends with several baths and relaxing hot rooms. Skiroom was useful in the baseground.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Hotel was located in a short walk to the Zell Bahnhof and skibus.

One thing that could be improved is a permanent free wifi facility in the rooms!
And please put down the temperature a little bit lower. It looks like the heat from the healthfloor was taken everywhere in the hotel.

Room Tip: Please choose a room on the front site and not on the back site (station and parking site). Since it...

The hotel-garni Strasser met our expectations easely.
The hotel facilities are great, the sauna landscape on the third floor with view over the village and mountains.
The always friendly and helpful staff at the reception.
Breakfast was every day great with always a short talk with the staff.
The room was spacious and cleaned daily.
Absolutely to recommend for a skiing holiday.

We decided not to join others at the very expensive hotel next door, mainly because we did not want the inclusive meal deal that imprisons you. At a fraction of the price we had every facility they had and explored restaurants in Ziller and Mayrhofen. It is an excellent place to stay.

We arrived in Zell at the time of the Almabtrieb a very busy time for the town. The route passed by our suite hotel which has an excellent Bakery . The apartment was well priced considering the town was full for the festival. The hotel is in the centre of the small town of Zell am Ziller. It has a great but small tourist park at the outskirts of town.

We stayed at the Backerei Strasser strictly because I wanted to stay in downtown Zell am Ziller since my husband's great grandfather had come from that town. I had a difficult time finding a room in May, and the hotel that I had originally booked with had a fire and cancelled our room reservation.
This hotel is very large and is lovely. The staff is very friendly. The hotel is non-smoking and there was no sign of any smoke smell in the entire facility. There is a parking lot in the back of the hotel for customer parking. The non-smoking and car park were important amenities to our travel.
Our room was large, with a sitting are in addition to the bed, and another sleeper sofa. The bathroom was large and came with a hair dryer.
The breakfast was abundant and delicious.
The one drawback of this hotel was that it did not accept credit cards. In order to secure the room, I needed to pay for a bank transfer of funds from my American bank to the hotel's European bank. I received an e-mail stating that my room had been paid in full, from the hotel. However, upon check out, I was told that I needed to pay the 13 Euro European bank fee, because they had deducted the fee from what the hotel's account.
So, in addition to the fee charged by the hotel, I ended up paying a transfer fee from my bank in the United States, and the 13 euro imposed by the European bank.
In order to use the internet, there was a per hour fee, and one could not "save" minutes. In other words, once you accessed the internet with their password and key, your hour was used. I had not realized this until I went to access the web, after saving 1/2 hour from the two hours that I had paid for, only to find that I could not use the internet.
Most of Zell am Ziller requires cash payment. If one wanted to use credit, there was a certain Euro minimum.
The woman at the desk admitted that they see few Americans. I believe that is because of the extra hassle in reserving the room via bank transfer.
And, I was a bit annoyed to have to pay an internet fee, considering that every other place we stayed offered free internet of some sort.
That being said, the room was beautiful, although there was a rowdy group outside making quite a bit of noise late at night. But, that could certainly happen in any town setting. The staff was attentive and seemed to be excited to have Americans staying in the hotel.
If you are in the area and have Euros in your pocket, then I would highly recommend this place if they have an open room.

The hotel is located in the centre of the village. Quite nice hotel in general but with a lot of shortcomings. More like a Pension than a hotel. It did not at all reach our expectations for the price we paid. It was nice and clean in general.

Our room type was called a "suite", but it was nothing special about it. A nice room in general with a seating area. It did not come with much equipment. Mainly only one glass each, and then nothing more.

The cleaning of the room during the week was quite bad. They did not vacuum at all, did not empty the trash bins etc. Neither did they refill the soap and shampoo. I don't know what they did during the cleaning, because they were in our room every day. Also the cleaning personnel took and threw away some of our things that they apparently thought were trash, which is totally inexplicable, because it was nowhere near the trash bin, and it did not look like trash, and the real trash we had near the trash bin had not been removed. Also the cleaning only takes place early in the morning. If you for some reason stay in your room during the morning, and go out a little later, then you will not get your room cleaned this day. There is no information about this and the cleaning personnel do not tell you this either.

The water in the bathing tub was all brown. We told this to the hotel personnel, but they did nothing about it. We could not use the bath tub.

It was incredibly hot in our room, too hot, even though we had turned off the heating in our room.

The hotel has a wellness area, but it was nothing special. It only contains different kind of saunas, and some were even not working. The opening hours for the wellness area were also extremely limited. I would have expected it to have some whirlpool or similar, but nothing like that existed.

The hotel had Wifi internet they said, which could be used if you paid for it, but it was not working at all in our room. There was zero coverage in our room.

We had breakfast included and it was served in the breakfast room. In general the breakfast was good, it was a buffet. The major drawback was that it started way too late. There was no possibility at all to be by the closest lift when it opened in the morning. This was really bad! We were there to ski. We asked the hotel if they could start the breakfast earlier but they did not want to meet this request. The breakfast itself was good with a lot to chose from, but only if you were there when it opened. One day we arrived to the breakfast a little bit later and then there was nothing left from most things.

The opening hours of the reception was very limited. It closed very early in the evening. After all, this is a hotel, not a pension, and I think one should be able to get some service in the reception also during the evening.

The hotel has a free parking area. This is however totally unorganized, always chaos, and often full even if the hotel itself is not by far fully occupied.

In general this is an OK hotel. Not bad. But it has a lot of shortcomings and do not meet the 4 stars or the name "hotel". It is more like a 3 star pension which is totally over-priced.
