“Real tea factory.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

We rented a scooter in Ella and went to see the factory. It's around 20mins and at the end it is quite steep because it's on a hill. The entrance fee is Rs 200 for adults and a tip for the tour guide at the end (he seemed to expect it). It was very interesting and the guide was knowledgeable but he didn't want to talk about certain topics like where do they get flavors for the flavored teas. We were the only ones in the group because it wasn't crowded at all (we came around 11am). We also missed the process of drying fresh leaves. Maybe it's done very early in the morning and you can't view this as a tourist. At the end you get the tea tasting. Sometimes the teas are fres and sometimes not (we've seen it from where we were drinking our own tea). There is a bar where you can order a cup of tea and it was very good. Worth the visit!

“Worth it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014 via mobile

One of the best experiences I've had on a factory tour. The guide was passionate and informative and made the experience one I will never forget. They walk you through the process of an operational tea factory and explain who tea is made. At the end you get to sample some fine teas and they have a reasonably priced area come gift shop. Major problem was their lack of small rupees to give change and they ripped my Tuk Tuk driver off 100 rupees that I had to fork over when he dropped me off.

“Didn't know so much was involved in tea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and made for a really interesting 30 minute tour with some tea tastings at the end. As a tea drinking I found this place really interesting. Nice tuk tuk trip through local farming areas enroute from Ella.

“Must do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

Our guide obviously knew his stuff, was a very interactive tour, bit of tea sampling at the end, good gift shop, highly recommend doing this, beware cannot take photos on the tour (trade secrets?) but can take photos of the brilliant view from the top floor.

“Fabulous tour!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

We went on a tour of the factory mid December, it was the day after Poya day and so no tea had been picked so there was not an awful lot going on in terms of tea pressing but it was still a very enjoyable and informative trip, the guide was very enthusiastic and I would recommend taking a tour here if you are in Ella!
