“Memorable stay at 98Acres”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

We stayed in 98Acres for two nights and had a wonderful stay there. The hotel is blend with the nature and very relaxing.

We stayed in a standard room and it was spacious, clean and comfortable. The room has good interior decorations, has beautiful polished timber floors and elegant furniture made with discarded railway sleepers. Bed and balcony chairs and balcony itself made with timber. We really liked their concept of Luxury blend with nature. Will never forget the amazing views from the balcony. Colorful sky and mountains with the sun rise and the stars over the mountains at night, was the best part of it.

Hotel is pretty much silent and only thing you hear would be sounds of birds and nature. Hotel promotes being silent and let others enjoy the nature for the guests. They mention not to use mobile phones except for silent modes, and any acts disturbing silence of the environment. This is one of the best things we enjoyed being there, the sounds of nature.

The staff was friendly and helpful. From the time we check into the hotel till we check out they always tried to make our stay comfortable as possible, and made us feel at home.

Food was great, and for all meals hotel provided set menus. We went for the western menus there and specially the focus for dinner and breakfast was better, and had good variety.

The location of the hotel also adds more value, where you can take walks during mornings, where full of fresh air and sceneries. During our stay we went to see little adam's peak, Ravana cave, Ravana Ella, and Nine arches bridge. The temperature in Ella area is such that you get very cold during mornings and nights, and can enjoy the hot sun during the afternoon.

Just couple of points for improvement. We felt that being given a set menu for meals it would have been better if had there been more choices, but that is only compared with some other places we have visited, and should not forget about the quality food given here. Also felt like for a person who likes to eat a lot the quantity given with the set menus not sufficient in some meals, and they should promote giving some additions to the main course itself. And also once a waiter had mistaken our full board package and complained us that we will have to pay for the lunch separately, while we were enjoying the meal. Felt like mistakes could happen but he should have mention that to us after the meal at least. Another thing is the sides of villas or rooms lacks a bit of privacy, while having a wonderful private balcony. Should try to make some natural borders (may be by growing some trees) in between side parts of the rooms, so that the windows of the sides also could be fully open.

Overall we rate this place very high in all aspects, and it definitely gave something more than we expected. We felt sad to leave the place and felt good if we could have stayed longer. The best thing is we would recommend this place for others, and have already done so. Also we will try to come back to this nice place again.

Room Tip: Any room is good. Has 12 rooms (6 delux and 6 standard, planning to expand). All having great view.

We sat on their restaurant and was lovely experience. the view is breathtaking and the food is delicious! I recommend going there (even if you have time only for a quick coffee) after Little Adam's Peak.

We stayed three nights at this hotel, which has the advantage of a most beautiful location. The mountains and the rolling tea plantations are spectacular, and the elegant and attractive chalets are designed to take in these views. To wake up in the morning and and be able to see the misty mountains without having to move a muscle is quite uplifting and a great start to the day. The grounds are well maintained and very pretty, and there are other attractions within walking distance: The place practically demands that you go on walks. The chalets too are well equipped and clean. The staff all do their best to please, but some might benefit from a bit more training.
But sadly, there are some black marks. The plumbing was leaking in our chalet, and the overhead fan gave off a cloud of dust when switched on. The exposed roof (no ceiling) is a great feature visually and we loved it, but it does allow access to little creatures. That's part of the scene and OK by us during the day, but we would have liked to have mosquito nets for use at night when we slept.
And the restaurant: Good set up and excellent Sri Lankan breakfasts, but all we can say about our dinner on our first night there was that it was edible - barely. We did not return, except of course for breakfast. They should also learn to serve tea properly: The hotel is, after all, on a tea estate.
This is quite a new hotel, and we dread to think what it might come to in a couple of years at this rate.
On the whole however we enjoyed our stay - the good outweighed the bad by a fair margin.

We only stayed at 98 Acres for one night but would have liked to have stayed longer. It was so serene and relaxing in the middle of the tea plantation. The property is not for the mobility impaired because you have to climb several steps to get to the restaurant and pool. However, once you are up there, the view is spectacular. They have a decent selection of imported wines and both the Sri Lankan and Western food options were very well prepared. Service throughout the resort was outstanding with fresh juices to greet you upon arrival. I have already recommended the hotel to friends who will be visiting Sri Lanka at Christmas.

The hotel is set right in the midst of a tea plantation and all the rooms have a view of the mountains which is simply breathtaking especially seeing the sun rise! the place was exactly like the pictures I had seen on the net and the staff's hospitality made us feel that we were at home. I loved the way the rooms were done up and the fact that each room in the resort had a view of the landscape. Don't think twice about booking a room at 98 acres....

98 Acres has just stunning views over the surrounding area and their deluxe rooms are just amazing. The architecture and interior design is very nice. You can enjoy the beautiful landscape from your bed, the huge tub or the spacious balcony. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Unexpectedly we had to extend our stay for another night in a standard room. Although the standard room is also quite nice we absolutely recommend to pay the extra and go for the deluxe room.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms are bigger and have an amazing bathtub

This hotel has one of the most stunning locations we have ever seen. On top of a tea plantation with spectacular views and a calmness and closeness to nature that is difficult to match. Rooms are actually little houses with very beautiful yet simple architecture. There is also a swimming pool and a very good restaurant.
Ella is a good location for visits to tea factories or for various hikes and bird watching.
