“Nice place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

We stayed with a family of 4 in the bungalow in the back. Very nice place with a small terrace to enjoy the forest. The rooms are clean and offer enough space. Besides 1 or 2 mini frogs nothing to complain. When we arrived they were working on a small new restaurant/kitchen/tea terrace and that looked already nice. The owner is very kind and offered us lots of information for some hiking. The lemon and chocolate cakes are very good and made by the owners wife. His sister is making the food and that was also excellent.
all in all a very good place that offers good value for money.

Mr & Mrs Gunasiri have a little gem of a place on their hands. I stayed in one of the log cabins and it feels like you're a thousand miles from anywhere. The curries are amazing and the cakes are the best in Sri Lanka (are you listening Pereira and Sons?*)

You can tell that the Gunasiris love what they do because they really do put their heart and soul in to Little Folly and it's all the better for it. Luxuary is fine but you don't leave with a little warm feeling like you do after spending time at Little Folly.

I do have one word of warning, not about Little Folly, about a guy who cooks kotthu in Ella itself. If you get stopped by someone claiming to make the best kotthu because he's the only one to use garlic, chilli and cumin (i think), do NOT eat it, just run for the hills. You're in Ella, you're spoilt for choice for hills to run to, just pick one and leg it!

Place like Little Folly make me love Sri Lanka. Warm and friendly hospitality, great rooms with lots of space and über value.

You can really tell the owners have been doing this well for ten years. Only 3 rooms so really chilled and great for families. Super accommodating for our small child and we had a great stay.

Outstanding food and also tea and cakes a speciality, just look for the sign "moist cakes"! Gold

We stumbled across this place on our way to mini Adam's peak and we changed our previous accommodation to this! It was off season so we got a great price and its a lovely place with some nice touches.

The owner is a very nice man who lives in the house nearby with his wife and two kids who are at University. All are very nice. The owner has a great wealth of knowledge on walking around the area and was very helpful.

The rooms are set back from the road which is also off the actual main road in Ella. Makes it nice and quite and secluded without actually being secluded. its about 5mins walk into the main town area. Behind the rooms are some woods on top of a small hill which is quite fun to walk about and explore. The rooms themselves are lovely wood cabins which are large, with a big 4 poster bed, mozzie net and table, chairs, side table, vase, hooks etc. Lots of space to get comfy and put your stuff out. The bathroom is large with a shower only. The whole room is done to a high spec and nothing looks old or wearing. There were even nice pics on the wall and 2 big mirrors.

We did have a few young frog friends in the bathroom and it did get a bit annoying especially when one jumped out the toilet at me! I suppose you cant do anything about this but there were 3 in the bathroom during our 3 nights stay! Eeekkk! They looked newly spawned and we could track there progress - lovely.

The food is good too and the cakes are fab - just go for the lemon cake if anything!!

We stayed in Little Folly in April 2012. Mr Gunasiri is a lovely man who instantly makes you feel relaxed and at home. The two log cabins are really nice places to stay. If you stay here, you should definitely eat the curry they cook at night. It's amazing. We had an incredible evening eating the lovely food and exchanging our western songs for Mr Gunasiris son playing Sri Lankan music on his guitar. A real experience.

Go for a walk to Little Adams Peak, and go to the cafe signposted at the top. It's amazing. Just try and make it down again before the rains come!

Room Tip: Choose the log cabins. The other room is not as nice.

We stayed in the wooden lodge which was a year old. There is a jungle feel to this whole place. Their home made dinner was the best ever that we had in our entire Sri Lanka trip. Walking distance from both the town of Ella and Little Adam's Peak. Their home made lemon cakes were great. A must try! Paid 3500 rupees for one night stay, including breakfast.

We stayed at Little Folly's for the sinhalese new year and had the warmest welcome ever! Mr. Gunasiri picked us up at the train station (refusing any payment), and invited us to spend the new year with his lovely family. Not only did he invite us for dinner (which was extremely good!), but thanks to him we learned about all the new year traditions. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka!
We stayed in one of the two log cabins, which are very nice, big and clean. The guesthouse is on the way to Little Adams Peak, which makes it really convenient.
So here's one advice: if you go to Ella, choose Little Folly!
