“Amazing views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Lovely familyrun guesthouse. The views are gourgious, the food was good and the rooms big and clean. Though it is located some 5 minutes by car from the centre of Ella it was well worth that for the surroundings. You can start the trek to Ella Rock straight from the guesthouse.

We got to this guest house about 5pm, dropped our bags off and went to Little Adams Peak for a walk, returning after dark. The walk to Little Adams Peak is well worth the effort, although if you have a bad hip or knees or a bit unsteady on your feet it may prove difficult as the steps up to the peak are quite steep.

Returning to our room the view was fantastic, you can look straight down into the Ella valley below. Laying on our bed we can see the mountains, stars, town lights and hear the distant sound of a waterfall. I would have really liked to stay here for at least one more night to enjoy having an afternoon beer on our veranda taking in the fantastic view.

The guest house is perched on the side of a mountain facing the Ella Gap with the train line passing below and the township about 1.5km away and is a steep walk from town to the guest house. The town of Ella caters well for tourists with a variety of accommodation and restaurants, which looked very inviting at night due to the lights.

My assessment:
• I have given this guest house an excellent rating because it delivered more than I was expecting. My wife and I were on a low cost private car tour of Sri Lanka and found this accommodation very good for the money we were spending.
• Guest house is of an early style being built I believe somewhere around the early 1950’s. So don’t expect ultra modern amenities.
• This accommodation is basic, clean and the staff were good.
• There is driver accommodation should you be travelling on a private tour.
• Rooms are large, include a good size veranda for sitting and a fantastic view. See photo which is taken from inside our room looking out over the veranda.
• Double bed was 2 singles pushed together, AC + fan, hot & cold water in the bathroom including the sink.
• Writing desk and chairs in room.
• The restaurant looks out to the valley and the food was a set menu based on a Sri Lankan or western style. We had the Sri Lankan style which was a variety of curry dishes, very nice.
• Breakfast is standard Sri Lankan guest house including fruit, eggs, toast and jam with tea, coffee and juice.
• No liquor licence to sell alcohol at this guest house so make sure you bring your own beer or wine for dinner.
• Free WiFi in the restaurant and the mobile phone reception was good.
• The garden around the guest house is kept very neat and was in flower, making the setting even more beautiful.
• Strongly recommend staying here for the view and peace and quiet.
• Consider taking the train to or from here as the scenery from the train is breathtaking. We hired a car and driver for tour of Sri Lanka, but left it too late to organise train tickets from Kandy to Ella, although the drive through the mountains was fantastic.
• If you have time stay more than one night.

Room Tip: Second story rooms will have the best view

After a breathtaking drive up the mountain our driver Sugath Gamini from My Sri Lanka Travel pulled into this guest house.Wow! We were taken to room No 3 which has the most spectacular views over the town on Ella and the mountain ranges beyond. Birdsong and palm squirrels greeted us as we stepped out onto our balcony. In the afternoon we walked up small Adam's Peak for more spectacular views. On our return we had a wonderful curry dinner, with many different dishes bursting with flavour ,a perfect end to the day.
The rooms are basic but clean and the bathroom has piping hot water. The guesthouse does have a resident barking dog (like everywhere in Sri lanka) so ear plugs could be advised but then you would miss the beautiful dawn chorus

Room Tip: Rooms 1,2,and3 have views of the waterfall. Our room had a mosquito net and fan. Rooms are old fash...

I stayed here with my family of 4 in two rooms. I suppose its what you want in a hotel or guest house..
The food, the hospitalty, the views or a clean and nice bathroom..
Well to be honest the rooms and bathrooms we had were disguisting not to say the least. All the hosputality, views and food does not make up for this. None of us had the courage to use the bathrroms and non had a bath the next morning. We juts wanted the night to end and get out of this place. We definitely wont stay here again but as i said it depends on what you want...

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere if you want a good room and bathroom!

We stayed only one night here, but it was great. After a long drive into the mountains we were greeted by very friendly operators who showed us to simple but very clean lodging. We had the top floor and the views were stunning. Nice bathroom with a hot shower was also a blessing, but the highlight for us was the magnificient meal prepared for us. Trying new food is always among the primary reasons to visit another country, and after the first week Sri Lanka was a big disappointment. But this place served us traditional Sri Lankan food, a range of curries, chutneys and rice that I still rate as a highlight of the trip. To put that in context, we also did christmas eve buffet at Hotel Suisse and Christmas night buffet at Hilton. If your passing through Ella this place is a winner.

We recently stayed here. The view is amazing! The room rate included breakfast and dinner. The dinner was the reason I would stay there again. The mango chutney they had was out of this world. Clean, reasonably priced and a breathtaking view.

My wife and I recently stayed at Ella Gap Panorama. We were very happy with the hotel, the size of the rooms, privacy, etc. It was raining and misty when we arrived, so we were even more happy once we saw the view in the morning. Fantastic Views! The staff were very friendly and accommodating but nothing extraordinary.
TRAVELLERS TIP: Bring mosquito/bug spray. Some of the bathrooms are open aired for better ventilation, but at the expense of more bugs.
