“Perfect view and lovely hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We enjoyed our stay at mountain heavens. We arrived from the train much later than expected and the hosts offered us dinner when we arrived which was lovely.
We stayed in the deluxe room and the view across to Ella Gap really is spectacular. Also, loved that the hotel was perched just above the town and an easy tuk tuk ride up the hill.
The cost was ok but I think we are still getting used to the fact that Sri Lankan accommodation is more expensive than we anticipated. Perhaps the by product of a surge in tourism.
Food was very good, both the breakfast and dinner.

The hotel is closer to the railway station and it is 200 rupees ride in a tuk tuk.

The rooms are basic but comfortable and clean. The view is amercing. We stayed there for two nights but we didnt take any meals from the hotel after having the first day dinner. We ordered two fried rice, salad and a grilled chicken . The rice and the chicken was too sweet and not tasty at all. The hotel don't have a variety on its menus.

Also we had issues in the bathroom. Even though it was clean and modern we didn't had water in the bathroom when we want to have a shower.

Room Tip: Go for the Delux room which gives you a superb view

We stayed over Christmas 2012 and absolutely loved our time there. The rooms are basic but you are not paying for a 5 star hotel!! The prices per night are extremely reasonable and we paid for full board ( even if we were not there during the day) .
The staff were very attentive and helpful. Prasana the manager was very helpful during our booking of the hotel and while we were there.
The food was good quality.
A big thankyou to the staff at Mountain Heavens for the lovely Christmas dinner they provided to all the guests on the 25th night. It was a lovely gesture and delicious. :))
The view is breath taking and it is worth every cent just for this.
The only drawback for some travellers may be the steep stairs leading to the hotel entrance. Luckily the staff took the bags up and down but if travelling with people who are not able to manage stairs it would not be easy.

Was quite impressed with this hotel. Stayed just 1 nt and had a driver to take us to the door who had provoked hotel so not sure of price. Some of the rooms were under renovation and we clearly had a renovated room. Good size included tv, lounges, king bed. Bed was comfy, pillows good, bathroom modern accessories. The view is breathtaking and I loved this place. Only negative was I felt the waiter/bellboy/all rounder was constantly hovering for a tip which was really annoying and they only had 3 beers in stock so that ran out early!!

Room Tip: Sorry, no fitness centre or swimming pool. Can't change selection

The rooms are basic but the view is breathtaking. The drive up to the hotel is a rather steep one to say the least. This hotel is easily accessed by walking along the railway track but a tuk tuk can get up the steep road. We only had breakfast there and it was fine. We ate dinner down in the town. The blankets and pillows could do with an update but the water was hot and the bathroom was clean. Very reasonably priced at $50 pn.

I stayed at Mountain Heavens for 2 nights. Due to some miscommunication, the arranged pick-up wasn't at Ella station (My fault, send the wrong time & date). Luckily, the room was still available.

Currently they're renovating the standard rooms and they have only the deluxe rooms available. These are very comfortable, with a nice and clean bathroom, a spacious room and offcourse: a balcony and huge windows with an amazing view! I got a nice discount because of the renovations. Ask for it in your contacts with the staff. (Because I did some hikes during the day I had no trouble with any (small) construction work)

The breakfast & dinner were both ok! Standard quality, nothing exceptional, just good.

Mountain Heavens claims one of the best views I have experienced in my travels - it really is exquisite. The bathrooms were modern and nice and the rooms were decent but I would recommend more/better quality blankets and more pillows. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. If you visit this place simply for the view (which in the deluxe room extends to the shower and in all cases the restaurant) it will be worth it!
