“Kookoos Nest - what a wonderful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

The perfect place to get away from everything. Simple, comfortable bungalows - we stayed in Toko which was ideal for us and had a beautiful view from the balcony over the sea. We were made to feel more than welcome not only by hosts Nikki & Jamie but also by Sally, Daisy, Toby, Barney and Bella. My brother joined us after a few nights and for our 4nights here we were able to enjoy the peace and traquility of such a quiet cove.
We went diving to Apo Island with Jaime where we saw some exceptional coral gardens and the remainder of the time here we relaxed, snorkelled, read books and ate. The service and food here was great as we sampled our first Philippino dishes such as adobo and kinilaw - YUM! Our only complaint would be that we couldn't stay longer.
Thank you Nikki & Jamie for your hospitality and please remember to get in touch for when you have had enough of your paradise and we will happily take over!

We stayed 6 nights at Kookoo's Nest in late June 2012. Totally relaxing and a great way to unwind at the start of our travels. The owners and staff are great as is the selection of food on offer. Sure it is away from the hustle and bustle of city life but one should be prepared to make their own fun/activities. The accommodation was just perfect for us. To top it off we were the only people there for most of the time. We did some walking around the coast and through the local villages, swam and read books as we are not divers.

We stayed at the Kookoo's Nest for three nights and found it totally relaxing. There's not much to do other than read, swim, snorkel and kayak, which is what we were looking for. The staff and owners were very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. The accommodation is simple: bamboo huts overlooking the ocean, so if you're looking for a bigger resort with a pool, spa, etc. this is probably not the right place. However, if you want to get away from everything and have a truly relaxing experience, it's fantastic!

Room Tip: Toko cottage at the end of the beach and the quietest.

The accommodation at Kookoos was definitely the most unique and breathtaking that we have experienced in the Philippines. We stayed in the Toko and the open concept balcony complete with hammock was a great place to relax and take in the views. Unfortunately there is construction going on next door so there was a lot of loud sawing during the day, hopefully that will pass soon. The beach was a bit disappointing since the tide is too high in the morning to lie in the sun and during our stay the water was really choppy which made snorkelling a tiring experience. Nevertheless there were plenty of comfy hammocks and deck chairs to lie and read on. The restaurant food was a bit higher priced as expected but we quite enjoyed the penne pesto (with roasted pine nuts), burgers, and the mongo bean soup. We were disappointed with breakfast, the French toast doesn’t come with anything so you have to pay extra for a tiny serving of syrup and we didn’t feel we got a good value for money there. We would have liked to see more fish and seafood options as well. No Red Horse beer or buko (young coconut) juice which would have completed my island paradise stay. Most drinks operate on an honour system which was convenient where you mark what you’ve taken from the coolers but we noticed a couple of incorrect charges on our final bill, which were eventually taken off. I would check the charges daily. Nikki, Jaime, and the rest of the staff were very friendly and there was an ample book exchange. A few caveats, but we would love to go back!

So many good things to say about this place. Firstly we stayed six nights and didn't want to leave.
The owners Nikki & Jamie are great and have put so much love into this place.
The food is top class and fresh , tasty cooking. Menu caters for everyone and is good value.
We stayed in two different huts which are like mini houses . Really beautiful and well made .views are amazing and the beach is perfect for swimming . Huts are good for family's, couples , pretty much all travellers as they have lots of beds.
They have a dive centre and the house reef in front of the beach is full of colourful fishes and coral .
Really can't say enough good things about this place. Shame more resorts in the Philippines aren't run like this.
Thanks Nikki & Jamie. We'll definetly be coming back in the future.

This holiday was the best ever, the cabins, the food, the beach, the diving, the snorkling, yes every thing is GREAT.
we were 2 familys of 4 with kids from 4 to 10 years old and we all had a ball.
Nothing was to much trouble the owners and staff are the best, we will go back.
If you are thinking of driving and getting qualified Jamie is the best instructor and he takes you on the some of the best dives ever.

We spent 5 days staying at Kookoo's It was a wonderful relaxing visit. The owners are very nice and look after guests very well. The staff are friendly and make sure to take very good care of everyone.
There are only 5 or 6 huts, so there are not many people around. Our hut, Toko was high up with spectacular views of the sea. It was clean and in excellent condition. The craftsmanship in the building is something not found in a lot of resorts in the Philippines.
The house reef is fantastic for snorkeling and you can dive and take trips to Apo Island.
We spent the days swimming, snorkeling, reading and enjoying the beach and the views from our hut.
The restaurant is excellent. The menu has some European and some Filipino food. Everything was delicious.
The prices are incredibly reasonable, too.
If you are looking for a quiet beach getaway, without all of the tourist shops, bars, restaurants, etc., then this is the place for you. It really is a bit of paradise.
