Owner description: Ganga Aarti Means Prayer for the River Ganges. The Ganga is holy river in India. It is worshiped as a goddess. It is providing life in the form of water to India. Every day Morning and Evening Ganga Aarti is organized at Har Ki Pauri. Morning time is approximately 05:30 AM in winter and 06:30 AM in Summer according to Sunrise. Evening time for Ganga Aarti is approximately 05:30 PM in winter and 06:30 in summer. Evening Ganga aarti is widely visited by people in stead of morning. There is no entry fees or charges for the ceremony. Evening at sunset priests perform Ganga Aarti here, when lights are set on the water to drift downstream. This is the most amazing and soul touching spectacle. A large number of people gather on both the banks of river Ganges to sing its praises. The priest hold large fire bowls in their hands, the bells in the temples at the Ghat start ringing and the chants flowing out of lips fill the air. People float diyas (candle), with burning flickers and flowers in them as a symbol of hope and wishes .The golden hues of floral diyas reflected in the river Ganges present the most enchanting sight. Note: 01. Reach little early to get good place to view the ceremony. Best place to view the ceremony is little island type of place called Malviya Dwip. From there you can view the ceremony from front side. 02. If you do not want to sit on the floor (which is free) there are some wooden platform are there which is run by local families. They will charge you Rs.25 Per person. 03. Some fake people may come to you and ask for donations. You are not supposed to give any donation to any one. However the place and ceremony is maintained by Ganga Sabha so if you want you can donate them. 04. Try to avoid priests if you dont want to do any Pooja (prayers) because after little prayer they expect money from you.

“Spend your evenings here..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

You dont have to be believer in the divinity of the Ganga to enjoy this beautiful spectacle at Har ki Pauri in the evenings. Timings depend on the season, your hotel would be able to guide you on the same. It's better to reach early to get vantage point on the stairs opposite.

“Spending some Quality time by Ganges witnessing Ganga Aarti”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

In Winters at 05:45 PM IST,
The ganga aarti occurs on the one bank, where flowers, colors (i hope organic), milk and other offerings are made to Mother Ganges (river) along with conches blowing, gongs and vedic mantras being hymned.

On the other side of the bank, the onlookers sit witnessing all this.
Pilgrims and onlookers wishing to perform puja or offering, sit close to the banks on the steps while curious onlookers can stand at slight far behind or simply sit a row behind the offerers.

We had a really great time with 135mm Telephoto lens.
The Ganga aarti then proceeds to taking of the pledge not to pollute the River (with both hands in the air) followed by the aarti using the large lamps which the pundit sways as per the tantric/ vedic customs.

The Temple trust fund collectors will be roaming around asking visitors to contribute. They actually cohort to give money. :-)

I would advise to carry a telephoto and a wide angle lens atleast as this place comes alive in the evening time. :-)

“without compare best Aarti in India which I have found so far”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

except for the pushing for money by sect leaders...the best and most moving and exciting aarti I have taken in. There is a small on in humble means in Rishikesh and in Varnasi a little Bollywood in showmanship, this aarti is wonderful...blessings...Sept 2010
