Wide beaches of white silky sand fringed by coconut palms. Used by tourists and local people so there is a good atmosphere, but not busy or noisy. The water goes out a long way at low tide, but then there's the pleasure of rock pooling. Wonderful shells, lots of seaweed which is collected by local women and children for processing at a nearby centre. At high tide the water is great for swimming - salty and warm. Not great for snorkelling. I cried on the day that I had to leave the beach.

The water goes far away from teh beach every few hours, so swimming at that time is impossible. During the low tide the beach is all covered with sea weeds...not a pleasant view in my opinion.

Cycled here from Bwejuu. Lovely ride. Nice beach and cool to see all the kite surfers. Ccan visit "Paje by night" hotel and if you have a meal or a drink you can use thier swimming pool which is a bonus during low tide.

One of the easiest places to swim in Zanzibar - as long as the tide is in, it's pure sand - no sea urchins, rocks etc
