When we travel on holiday we want to avoid the general public, children of any age and folks whose idea of their good time is to inflict it upon us. We spend many months looking after the travelling public and when we go away we want a discrete location, good food and quietness to sleep. Palms could not have been any better! It is excellent value for money, and still has an individual personality with approachable staff, a great creative chef and Stephanie who is in charge of the show seems to be the cherry on top of the cake. Palms is situated on one side by a 70 room hotel (you'd never know it was there...) and on the other by 30 upmarket villas (appealing to the US clientele in our opinion...) and yet Palms is the best location. It has small garden, a delightful pool, direct beach access and the food was always tasty and refreshing in its originality. One day I met the new head chef of all three locations....a fellow Brit and he offered in passing to get me some lambs kidneys..well one does...does one not? Being a true meat eater I took him at his word...and the very next day I had them for dinner. Now lamb and Zanzibar don't immediately go hand in hand...but he sourced them...which was very impressive!

You will need to buy nothing whilst you are staying unless you want 60 year old scotch, you will find the small villas charming each with it's own plunge pool, and great king size bed and fantastic bath, bathroom and shower. You get a fridge, great wi-fi internet multiple air conditioners (one broke whilst I was there and was quickly fixed) My only suggestion would be a little more direct reading light in the villa.

The place was not full of honeymooners, but was full of folks who could politely ignore each other at dinner and during the day you really did not cross any ones path. The beach is wonderful but not paradise....it is all the better for that! The sea is as hot as a bath and after 5 days there we went onto Crater Lodge...which was a disappointment in comparison. Palms really is a gem and has got hospitality 100% right.

My wife and I finished off our honeymoon at this fantastic and exclusive hotel.
After 2 weeks of travelling in Rwanda and Kenya on safari and spending only a couple of nights in each location it was nice to put down some temporary roots and spend 8 nights in one place before the slog home to the UK.

This place is family owned with the two hotels either side being part of the group but this is the exclusive hotel with just 6 rooms whilst the breezes and bazara are much bigger hotels (Still very nice)

Everything is included apart from the top shelf in the bar (why would you bother), cigars and laundry. You also get to use some of the facilities at the neighbouring hotels such as water sports and shops etc.

The main attraction is how quit and how private this place really is. 6 rooms means a max of 12 people. During our stay, at the busiest time 2 other couples where in the hotel but we only really bumped into them at mealtimes and even then, only if we wanted to. Anything you want is taken care of. the food is unreal the staff incredibly helpful and pleasant and the accommodation the best we have ever stayed in.
all in all a fantastic way to finish our honeymoon.

Would we go back?
probably not, mostly because we normally go in for more active and bigger hotels where you get to meet other holiday makers and enjoy the company and entertainment of your bigger all inclusive resorts but by the same token you only get married once (in theory) and for honeymooners and anyone looking for a romantic escape, it's totally perfect !!!!!

The Palms was luxurious and relaxing. The accommodation was great, food was varied and good (although 4 course meals three times a day got a bit much toward the end of the week). They had some nice south african wines as well as a bar. The private banda on the beach was great and very relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful.

There is a DVD library and a book library available and you can use the facilities of the bigger Breezes next door, including shop, tennis courts etc. There is a massage therapist in the Palms who was great. They also had a computer so you could check emails.

You should get the staff to teach you the local zanzibar game - it involved a board with stones on it and we wish we had asked to be taught as it looked fun. As we were on honeymoon the staff gave us a romantic surprise one night which was a nice touch.

The only negative thing about Palms is that it was so luxurious that we never left the resort and so could have been anywhere really - we didn't experience Zanzibar. If you are also going to Mnemba then do the Palms first like we did.

White Sandy Beaches....Beautiful, Large Villas, Crystal Blue swimming pool, attentive, professional staff and fabulous fresh food....WOW - what more can I say about The Palms!? We spent a fantastic 5 days at The Palms after Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda and Safari in the Mara - what a fabulous way to end a perfect vacation. The Palms is top notch, first class all the way. We had impeccable service, the food was more than outstanding each and every meal (and I am very picky), our villa was pristine and gorgeous to say the least. The chef gave me his recipes for a traditional Swahili dinner which he made for us one evening - I wish I could take him home with me to teach me all his fabulous recipes. Each day it seemed we'd have a special treat, lunch on the beach, BBQ seafood lunch, special traditional dinner...we just loved our entire stay at The Palms - you have to pinch yourself because it is just so beautiful you can't believe your eyes!

We stayed here for 5 nights as part of our honeymoon and loved it! Everything about this place is fantastic. The villas are lovely and each have a private banda on the beach which is great. The service is fantastic - so friendly and personal, they really couldn't do enough for you. The food was also excellent, the only criticism is that there was a bit too much of it and we often had to skip courses! The sundowner cocktails are also a really nice touch. On our last night, we had a private dinner on the beach which was just perfect and one of the best moments of our honeymoon. We were really sad to leave this place and will definitely return. Great for a romantic holiday or honeymoon!

I have traveled the world since I was young and never have I had such a great all around experience as at The Palms. I have stayed at the sister resort, Breezes and had high expectations. I was not disappointed.

This is a luxury resort that has a high ratio of staff to guests. Every time I needed something someone was there to assist without being overbearing.

The accommodations were straight out of a story book. I felt like a Sultan! Just the escape I was looking for!

The food was amazing. Innovative and the wine suggestions were perfect. Very knowledgeable staff.

When you travel to such an exotic place as Zanzibar you have many expectations. The Palms, their staff and the management fulfilled all of my expectations and more. Thank you so much for a dream come true!

Some years ago, before Palms opened, I spent an enjoyable holiday at Breezes with friends and having since married, my husband always wanted to visit Zanzibar so we decided to spoil ourselves at Palms and we were not disappointed. From the time we arrived to the time we left the staff could not do enough for us. Our villas were spacious and with all Breakfasts overlooking the sea, lunch at the pool bar – our choice was catch of the day and salad – lobster, cigale, sea-bass, bream all cooked to perfection. Cocktail of the day were brought to us at sunset together with the choice for evening dinner. Many comments we read about this were negative but having spoken with the chefs, on their regular chats with the guests it helped them ensure that no guests were disappointed. Having visited Africa on several occasions I am amazed at the ingredients and choice the hotels are able to deliver.

Not having access to good fresh fish at home we mainly chose the fish options and there was such a variety many of which we cannot get at home. This was the first time we had stayed 8 days in one hotel – we tend to try and see as much as we can of the countries we visit and my husband was concerned that he would be bored. Long walks on the miles of sandy beaches in either direction from the hotel, visits to the local village, a walk out to the reef in low tide, snorkelling either on our own in front of the hotel at high tide or with the trips organised by Breezes, a practice dive with an instructor, swimming in the Palms pool often deserted with only a maximum of 12 guests, left little time for us to read the books we had brought to read.

The family who own Breezes and Palms were just about to open another hotel next door and we were taken on a guided tour of Baraza which with its Arabesque design was very different to the African feel of Breezes. The size of the villas, restaurants, lounges etc were more in keeping with a hotel with five times the number of rooms. Even with Breezes full it never seemed crowded but Baraza was amazing. The attention to details in every room, and there are many for such a boutique hotel, was amazing and we vowed to return to experience it for ourselves one day hopefully at the end of a Kenyan safari, another wish of my husbands.

All the staff were exceptional. We did make time for the spa and on the last day we treated ourselves to the Sultan’s Bath at the Breezes spa which was a luxurious end to a wonderful trip.

For a group of friends I would recommend Breezes, which had been extended since our last visit. For a special romantic holiday Palms and I cannot wait to experience Baraza.
