“Pretty much perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

Like a lot of the other reviewers, we stayed here on the final leg of our honeymoon post-safari and it really is the perfect place to relax and recharge.

It's very small and private, with each guest having a huge private villa and individual beach banda to call their own, but with the freedom to use the facilities of the large sister hotels either side if wanted. We had a massage and did some yoga classes at Baraza and used the water sports centre at Breezes quite happily- but then to come back to our small piece of heaven away from the masses was really special.

The Palms and everyone who works there really go above and beyond. Every little need was met, from fresh coconuts or cocktails being delivered to our beach banda along with cold face cloths, or a private lunch on the beach, to the manager giving us details of where the villa furniture had been bought from (we coveted a lot of the beautiful carved pieces in our room!). We were also given wonderful surprise honeymoon presents over the week.

The food is exceptional - five courses of deliciousness every night all the perfect portion sizes to ensure you fit it all in! The seafood curry selection was our favourite. We also loved the pre-dinner aperitif cocktail of the day and hor d'oeuvres served to our room every night. You can also eat at the sister hotels if you fancy a change - but why would you?!

One note is that Zanzibar is a very tidal island, and the sea does go out about a mile at low tide, but when the tide it in it is lovely to swim or wade in the warm shallow lagoon steps from your banda. You will need beach shoes to go exploring at low tide (sea urchins abound), but you can borrow a pair for free from the watersports centre next door at Breezes.

There's not much to add that hasn't already been said other than simply book it! It's a once-in-a-lifetime place.

We stayed at The Palms for a week on honeymoon. I can only add my support for all the other positive reviews. The Palms ranks as probably the best hotel i've ever stayed at with food consistently being equal to a Michelin standard anywhere in the world. All the staff are extremely well trained and attentive without being overbearing or familiar. You cannot help but fall in love with the place and appreciate the attention to detail that is evident in every aspect. After climbing Kili in a tent and a week on safari The Palms truly was heaven on earth. My wife and I have a passion for food and really enjoyed the interaction and even a cooking lesson with the chef which was organized pool side on one of our lunches. Literally nothing is too much trouble for the guests, and every wish catered for - we cant wait to go back.

We stayed at The Palms for a week after a hectic safari. From the moment we arrived, we knew this was going to be a special stay. Where do we start…The villas are huge, luxurious and immaculately maintained with traditional décor. Each villa has its own private Banda, providing privacy and a breathtaking view of the white sands and the blue waters. The food was world class– having been to many Michelin star restaurants, the food was akin to this level. Being a guest of The Palms, you have privileged access to the two neighbouring sister resorts (Breezes and The Barraza) to enjoy the facilities they have to offer – from water sports (e.g. scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing, etc.) to relaxing treatments (We can definitely recommend The Sultan's Bath – WOW!).

However, it is the personalised service and attention to detail that makes The Palms stand out from the rest. The staff knew exactly when we might want something, and went above and beyond to see us happy. Whether you were near the pool, in your room or in your Banda, they were attentive to your every need and wish. They bring you sundowners and snacks with a menu before dinner. If you don’t want something on the menu, they are more than happy to make you something else. One night we had a romantic dinner on the beach in a beautifully set up private cabana under the moonlight. Another night they set up a dinner with a pool side view. And on our last night everyone had dinner on the beach at low-tide with a bon-fire and musicians playing traditional Zanzibari music. One evening, we walked into our villa on our last evening at the resort to find a candle lit bathroom with rose petals sprinkled in an already drawn bath and wine waiting for us. They even gave us presents to take home. These, and so many other, personal little touches made our honeymoon unforgettable. It more than justifies its title in being one of the best romantic resorts in the world. We want to thank Siriak and his team for making it such a special honeymoon!

If there is a place you can call heaven on earth, then The Palms is it!

Room Tip: We stayed in Cinnamon - it's away from the other villas and it is closer, in terms of proximity...

We spent seven days at The Palms Zanzibar after a two week safari and to put it simple: we had an amazing time there!
After arriving we were very friendly welcomed by restaurant manager Siriak. He introduced us to the hotel, our villa and the different activities offered.
The villas are extremely comfortable and big enough for 3 people easily. All of them are build in a typical Zanzibari-style, which gives you a feeling of holiday from day one. They are equipped with a lot of different things including a mini bar, a private plunge pool outside the villa and a huge bathroom to name just a few.
The food and service offered is world class! Usually you have the opportunity to choose between two main dishes for lunch and for dinner. Most of our meals we were having seafood like lobster or red snapper which was always excellent. Beside a cooking demonstration the staff organized a lunch under palm leafs right at the beach. The service was very good at every time and we never had any lack of drinks. This of course you can expect from a high class resort like this. Every evening you are offered a sundowner cocktail including the dinner menu and an amuse-bouche.
Besides you have several opportunities to do at The Palms beside just laying at the beautiful beach or the poolside. We can recommend both a Stone Town day excursion and a trip to a local spice farm. The neighbouring hotels next to The Palms are belonging to the same hotel group (The Zanzibar Collection). That’s why you can also make use of the different activities there as well. In case you like sports you can visit the diving center named Rising Sun or the water sports center at Breezes, which we used extensively. Another recommendation is the beautiful oriental-style Frangipani Spa at Baraza, where you can relax with numerous different massages or aroma therapies.

Exclusive, beautiful, magical and completely indulgent: The Palms Zanzibar! My husband Oscar and I spent 6 magnificent days at The Palms, overwhelmed and seduced by the experience. We've stayed in luxury hotels around the world, but this tiny place with only 6 villas - each private for a couple - had the most outstanding service we've experienced. Everyone from the Manager down made it clear they were there TO SERVE OUR EVERY NEED - not only meeting but anticipating our needs. We lived liked gods, dining on ambrosia from the sea prepared by our private French trained chef (for 12 guests!) and lounging on our sultan's couch or in our private cabana for two by the Indian Ocean. Plus the staff happily arranged all activities ( tours, snorkeling, etc) we could dream up. PERFECTION!

Room Tip: With only 6 villas and each surrounded by greenery, there are only GREAT ROOMS at the Palms. The in...

If you value privacy and luxury the Palms is the place for you. This was the ultimate romantic holiday location for our wedding anniversary. We stayed 4 nights and five days and every day was more miraculous than the last. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The operations manager was the perfect host. The resort is all-inclusive which can sometimes conjure up images of lines to buffets and substandard service, but this resort is the complete opposite. With only six large villas, each with it’s own dedicated cabana along the beach, this resort is a like a private hideaway. It is settled in a beautiful location along the Eastern end of the Island; meals are served at various locations throughout the small property, with a choice of main course and starter at almost every meal (and if you don’t like what you see, they will prepare something else, you can also choose if you would like your meal in your villa or cabana); they clean the rooms and replace amenities several times a day; and the staff is ready to serve at any time. One day we had lunch on the beach under a hand-built cabana and one evening everyone had dinner on the beach at low-tide with a bon-fire and local musicians playing soft African music. For those who want more there are two sister resorts (that you can’t see due to the luscious immaculately groomed grounds) within steps, that offer water sports, larger spas, dancing, etc.
Words cannot do justice in describing this resort; it is most definitely the most relaxing and comforting resorts we have encountered throughout our travels across the world.

Room Tip: Every Villa is private and amazing and close to the beach, pool, bar and dining.

What can be said about The Palms that hasn't already been said? It was the perfect place to end our honeymoon after 5 days bumping around in a jeep on safari. For most of our 7 night stay, we almost had the resort to ourselves and it blew away anywhere we have ever stayed before. The setting could not be better - stunning ocean views, lush gardens and stylish villas, but it is the personal touch that makes this place so special.

The staff seem to know the exact moment you may be thirsty or want to chat about island life, equally giving you the space to relax and unwind. Every night dinner was set up in a different place round the resort and we could tweak the menu in any which way we wanted.

We don't know when, but one day we shall come back to The Palms. And I can't wait.
